Dixie Easterling

July 24, 1943 -- July 23, 2002

Dixie Lee Easterling, 58, died Tuesday at Sutter Solano Medical Center-Vallejo, after a long illness.

Born in Albany, she was a Vallejo resident.

Mrs. Easterling was a bartender for 25 years, at numerous bars in Vallejo and Napa until retiring in 1996.

She was a member of the Lioness Club of Vallejo.

Mrs. Easterling enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling.

She is survived by her companion, Robert  White of Vallejo; sons, Corbin, and Bart Maltby both of Vallejo; and her mother, Lillie McClellan of Petaluma.

A celebration of life will be held 3 to 7 p.m., July 27 the Volano Club in Vallejo. Private inurnment.

Arrangements made by Wiggins-Knipp Funeral Home, Vallejo.

Donald Shipman

Jan. 10, 1942 -- March 30, 2003

Donald "Don" Shipman, 61, died Sunday at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center -Vallejo after a long illness.

He was born in Napa and raised and educated in Benicia. He was a resident of American Canyon for 40 years.

Mr. Shipman worked for the State of California as a toll collector, toll sergeant and toll lieutenant on the Antioch, Benicia-Martinez, Carquinez, Dunbarton, Richmond-San Rafael and San Mateo Bridges. He retired in 1997 with over 30 years of service.

He enjoyed working with youngsters in the Little League and was a fan of the San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders, San Francisco Giants, Oakland A's, NASCAR racing and traveling in his motorhome.

He volunteered many years with the American Canyon West Vallejo Little League. His first year with the Little League began in 1972 when the original park was near Mare Island. He served on the board of directors from 1973 to 1989.

He was involved in building the four fields at the new park and has held many positions within the board of directors. He has served as president, treasurer, coach, manager, field coordinator, overall field coordinator and candy chairman. Mr. Shipman spent many hours at the park mowing grass, fixing equipment, cooking in the canteen, umpiring games and many other volunteer duties.

Mr. Shipman was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Ruth Shipman.

Survivors include his wife, Janet "Jan" of American Canyon; his sons, Robert (Stacy) of American Canyon and Donald "Joe" of Vacaville; sister, Donna Brown of Napa; four grandchildren; niece and nephew.

A memorial will be held at 11 a.m., April 4 at Chapel of the Chimes, 2383 Napa St., Napa.

Arrangements made by Struble Family Funeral Services, Vallejo.

Contributions are preferred to the American Canyon West Vallejo Little League, 11G Poco Way, American Canyon.

Herman Bryant

Feb. 25, 1934 -- July 20, 2002

Herman Bryant Jr., 68, died July 20 at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center-Vallejo, after a long illness.

Born in Terrell,  Texas, he was a Vallejo resident.

Mr. Bryant worked at Napa Auto Parts as a truck driver, from 1995-2001. He retired in 1993 after working for Mare Island Naval Shipyard 38 years as a material expediter.

He received his associate of arts degree from Vallejo College, now known as Solano Community College.

His parents, Herman Sr. and Willa Mae Bryant preceded him in death.

Mr. Bryant is survived by his wife, Vernell of Vallejo.

Visitation will be held 2 to 8 p.m. July 30, at Cooley & Riolo Mortuary, Inc., Vallejo. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m., July 31 at Skyview Memorial Lawn, Vallejo.

Charles  Jefferson Williams

June 29, 1915 -- March 27, 2003

Charles "Charlie"  Jefferson Williams, 87, died Thursday in Napa.

Mr. Williams was born in Quincy, Mass., but grew up in Vallejo. He attended Vallejo High where he was a football and track star.

He and his wife, Barbara, had the first set of triplets in Vallejo on April 3,1943.

He proudly served in the Army during W.W.II.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara; children, Terry, Larry, Ron, and Don Williams all of Ore., Marylee Norick of San Jose; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on April 4, at the Napa Valley Baptist Church, 2303 Trower Ave., Napa. Pastors David Waters and Maynor Reed will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Napa Valley, 3299 Claremont Way, Napa, or to the Alzheimer's Research, 4340 Redwood Highway, Suite 23, San Rafael.

Blaine  White

July 24, 1930 -- July 26, 2002

Blaine Wilford  White, 72, died July 26.

He was born in Utah, and had been a Vacaville resident for the past year.

Mr.  White served in the U.S. Navy, and worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard as a chipper for the Department of Defense.

He was a member of the Vallejo Moose Lodge, Mt. Shasta Elks and the Dunsmuir Lyons.

Survivors include his wife, Fay and his daughter, Debbie Robertson both of Vacaville; and a son, Terry of Bend, Ore. He was also a grandfather and great-grandfather.

No formal services were be held.

Arrangements made by McCune Garden Chapel, Vacaville.
