DOROTHY COFFIN
Dorothy Coffin passed away in Susanville,  Calif., on Sept. 7, 2005 at the age of 85 years.
She was born in Hazelton, British Columbia, on March 27, 1920, and had been a Lassen County resident for the past 63 years.
She graduated from Salinas High and came to Susanville in 1941 where she met Chub and they married on Aug. 16, 1941.
Their son Ed was born in 1944.
Dorothy soon opened a dance school featuring ballet, tap, and ballroom lessons.
Many of her pupils along her dance routines entertained local organizations.
She had many winners of talent contests.
Dorothy principally had her dance studio in Susanville but along the way also instructed in Westwood, and Herlong.
Altogether she taught for 24 years.
Horses were always a major interest in her life.
She trained four different winners of numerous trail horse contests at county fair level.
In the 1940s and 1950s she was a team roper when women were a rarity in the arenas of Northern California.
Dorothy also met with success training and riding barrel racing horses.
In later years she retired from the position of Medical Secretary at the California Conservation Center, now known as the California Correctional Center.
Dorothy co-chaired the local United Way Pledge Drive for one year.
In her retirement years, Dorothy continued to participate in horse show competitions and she and Chub enjoyed several road trips through the western states.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Chub of Janesville, son Erle (Ed) Coffin, of Oroville,  Calif.; granddaughter and grandson Lesa and Burt Coffin; sister Virginia Johnston; several nieces and nephews; and grand nieces and grand nephews.
There will be a graveside service for Dorothy at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at Janesville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of your choice.

RONALD FREDERICK WALES
Ronald Frederick Wales, 77, passed away Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005 at his home in Red Bluff,  Calif.
He was born Nov. 11, 1927 in Susanville,  Calif., to George and Mary Wales.
Ronald moved to Red Bluff from Sun City West, Ariz.
For 15 years, Ron worked as a leadman for Cal-Trans in the Pacific Valley on Highway 1.
Ron loved to fish and hunt, to play cards, and to barbecue, and often had competitions with his son Tim as to who could make the best tri-tip with their secret recipe marinades. Ron and Miriam were musical travelers in their motorhome.
For 11 years, they traveled all over the country, and played music in lots of senior centers.
Ron played a mean trumpet while Miriam accompanied him on clarinet and keyboard and, whenever possible, Tom would join in on the saxophone, bringing enjoyment to people who absolutely loved having them.
Ron will be greatly, greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Ronald was preceded in death by his biological parents George and Mary Wales, his adopted parents Ralph and Clara Wales, and his first wife Mary Lou Wales.
Ronald is survived by wife of 17 years Miriam Wales, of Red Bluff; sons Thomas Allen Wales, of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Timothy John (Beverly) Wales, of Red Bluff; sisters Noralee (Jim) Wassner, of Pollock Pines, Jennine (Pete) Hollick, of Sacramento, and Candice Jeffcoat, of Carmichael; brother Arlan (Wanda) Mallery, of Susanville; step-daughters Shelly Rodgers, of Worcester, Mass., and Sherry (Peter) Gerrodette, of Oak Run; and eight grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Susanville.

JIMMY C. YOUNG
Jimmy C. Young, 70 years old, passed away Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at Manor Care Hospital in Reno, Nev.
He is survived by wife Naomi; daughters Teri Kimbriel and Sheri Soberajski; brother Ed Calvert; along with grandchildren, nephews and one niece.
He was preceded in death by parents Mary Calvert and Clark Young and brother Bill Young.
Jim was born on June 14, 1935, in Santa Monica,  Calif.
He moved to Susanville in 1935 and married Naomi Willingham on June 5, 1954.
He became a meat cutter for Safeway until he started as an agent with State Farm Insurance in 1965.
He was a State Farm agent for 35 years retiring in 2000 due to poor health.
Jim was elected to city council and served from 1977 to 1982 and was mayor from 1978 to 1980.
He was a hardworking man and owned a ranch.
He farmed 1,000 acres and held two jobs all the years he was married.
He believed a man's place was to take care of his family which he did wonderfully.
Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 9, 2005, at Walton's Colonial Mortuary.

RUSSELL DEAN PERFIELD
Russell Dean Perfield, 79, formerly of Janesville, died Monday, Aug. 22, 2005.
He was born June 23, 1962 to Frank Benjamin and Mary (Gibson) Perfield.

GLADYS MAE CABALLERO
Gladys Mae Caballerro, 73, died Tuesday, Sept. 6 in Reno, Nev.
She was born July 9, 1932 in Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her husband Chris Caballero.
Caballerro is survived by daughters Debora Wadsworth, of Reno, Nev., Zilla Wadsworth, of Westwood, Barbara Wadsworth, of Reno, Nev.; brother Jessie Don Hart, of Phoenix City, Ala.; sister Daisy Fain, of Litchfield; mother Edna Mae Hart, of Litchfield; four grandchildren; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Viewing was held Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, at Walton's Chapel followed by Chapel service Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at Susanville Assembly of God Church.
Burial followed at Diamond Crest Cemetery.

RODNEY LYNN BUNYARD
Rodney Lynn Bunyard, 59, died, Monday, Sept. 5, 2005, in Janesville.
He was born July 1, 1946 in Sacramento.
Bunyard is survived by wife Sally Bunyard, of Janesville; sons Jarrod Bunyard, of Janesville, Shawn, of Santa Rosa; mother Mildred Bunyard, of Sacramento; brother Lee Bunyard, of Shingle Springs; sister Sharre Rector, of Sacramento; and three grandchildren.
Graveside services were Thursday, Sept. 8, 2005 at Diamond Crest Cemetery.

NANCY ELIZA SIMS
Nancy Eliza Sims, 92, died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2005.
She was born March 2, 1913, in Turner, Ore.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Roy Hall, Floyd Hall and Arthur Hall; and sister Violet Gabbert.
Sims is survived by her son Ronald Sims, of  Jefferson, Ore.; daughters Judie Lindeman, of Janesville, and Lina Mespelt, of Tangent, Ore.; sister Vivian Gilmore, of San Jose; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
At her request, no services will be held.
