DONALD WILSON DODSON
Lake Almanor Peninsula resident Donald Wilson Dodson peacefully passed from this life to his eternal home Friday morning, Jan. 27, 2006, with his loving and caring family at his side at Seneca District Hospital in Chester.
He was born 78 years ago in Pasadena, Calif., to the late Thomas and Katherine Dodson on Aug. 29, 1927. He attended Pasadena Junior College to obtain his high school diploma before going on to obtain his AA degree at Woodbury College.
Donald left high school early to serve his country as a member of the U.S. Army during the European reconstruction period following WWII. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1947.
Following his return from the military, he met his precious wife, JoAnne. The two were united in matrimony on Feb. 11, 1949, at the Church of Christ in Pasadena. To this union four daughters were born.
The family relocated to San Jose in 1958, where Don continued his fulfilling career with Dart Transportation, serving as their Northern Division Terminal Manager.
In 1987, Don and JoAnne moved to Lake Almanor Peninsula. Don continued to commute to work in the Bay Area until his retirement in 1993. He served as a director on the Lake Almanor Country Club Board from 1996 until 1999. Don also maintained a longtime affiliation with the Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge #292 of Los Gatos, Calif., where he rose through the chairs and served his brothers as master.
Don's greatest love in life was that of his family. He is remembered as a stern but caring father who was always there to provide for their needs. He enjoyed fishing but is remembered fondly by many for his accomplished handyman's talents.
Don leaves in passing his beloved wife of close to 57 years, JoAnne, of Lake Almanor; his daughters Carol Pollard, of San Jose, Sandra Louise Dodson, of Fremont, Leeanna Franklin, of San Jose, and Nanette Robin Dodson Skjerven and her husband Paul, of San Jose; his eight grandsons; two cherished granddaughters and one great-granddaughter. He also leaves behind his sister Patricia Hedlund, of Pasadena, and is preceded in death by his brother Frank Dodson.
A celebration of Don's life will take place at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, the day he and his wife would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary, at the Campbell Church of Christ located at 1075 W. Campbell Ave., Campbell, CA 95008.
