Doris Mae Perini, 79, died April 6, 2003, at Seneca District Hospital in Chester. Doris was born March 27, 2003, to Davis and Edith Boyer Carlton in Mariposa. She moved to Plumas County at a young age and went on to become a 1943 graduate of Quincy High School. Shortly after her marriage to Joe Perini in 1944 they moved to Westwood, residing there until 1984, at which time she moved to Hamilton Branch and lived there for the last 14 years. Doris was a member of the Order of Eastern Star's former Westwood Chapter for more than 50 years. She was a member of Sincerity Chapter No. 53 of the Order of Eastern Star in Greenville. She enjoyed all types of outdoor activities especially panning for gold and fishing the streams and lakes throughout the region. She also enjoyed knitting. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; one brother; three sisters; and three nephews. Doris is survived by her longtime companion, Edward Otto of Hamilton Branch; two nephews; and three nieces. Visitation was held on April 11, 2003, followed by fraternal memorial services conducted by the Sincerity Chapter No. 53 of the Order of the Eastern Star on April 12 at the Fehrman Mortuary Chapel in Greenville. Daniel Robert Turner, 64, died April 12, 2003, at his residence in Quincy. Dan was born Jan. 9, 1939, to Willie and Alice Turner, in Oroville where he was raised. He was a 1958 graduate of Oroville High School. He had been a resident of Quincy for the past 34 years, moving from Carmichael. He had retired from the former Western Pacific Railroad as an engineer after more than 40 years of service to the country. Dan served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War stationed in Petaluma. He was an automobile enthusiast and a Ford Model A afficionado. He was a member of the Feather River Model A Club and had gained respect for his restoration expertise. He loved to race and was a charter member of the Old Quincy Racing Association where he competed in the stock car division for many years. He was the winner of the association's inaugural race. Dan loved to spend time at the local airport and prior to his diagnosis of cancer was working on obtaining his Private Pilots license. He was a remote control aircraft builder and pilot. He enjoyed the outdoors through snowmobiling and long board skiing, competing at the Long Board Ski Races in Johnsville for many years. He also enjoyed elk hunting and fishing and operated a commercial salmon fishing boat out of Fort Bragg for many years. He was an accomplished woodworker and a former member of the Quincy Elks Lodge. Dan is survived by his wife, Gail of Quincy; daughters, Julie Sessions of Sacramento and Jennifer Gamberg of Susanville; his stepchildren, Joshua Knoettgen, currently with the U.S. Air Force in Iraq; Seth Knoettgen and Debbie De Priest of Quincy; his brothers, Ronald and Dale Turner of Oroville and Steven Turner of Roseville; sister, Fern Beal of Redding; and five grandchildren. Following cremation, a celebration of Dan's life will take place at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at the Quincy Christian Life Fellowship Church located at 317 First St., East Quincy. Alta Mae Camp, 87, died at her home in Reno, Nev., on April 18, 2003. She was born in Sacramento on June 24, 1915, to Nathaniel and Leota Mullen. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Indian Valley near Greenville, where her mother's family resided since the late 1800s. She spent most of her life on her grandfather's ranch in Indian Valley. In 1933, she graduated from Greenville High School and married Walter Camp. Alta lived in Indian Valley for 81 years. During that time, she was a member of the Rebekahs, the Garden Club, AARP and the Card Club. In recent years she had been living with her daughter in Reno, Nev. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter. Alta is survived by her daughter, Joyce Destefanis of Reno, Nev.; one granddaughter; and two great-grandsons. Graveside services will be held at the Greenville Cemetery
on Saturday, April 26, 2003, at 1 p.m. A celebration of life will follow. Marian, 82, died April 12, 2003, at his home in Quincy. Paul was born in St. Paul, Minn. He purchased property in Plumas County prior to World War II and moved to Quincy with his wife after serving in the United States Marine Corps. Work provided him a sense of satisfaction. He was known to care for the needs of others before his own. Paul is survived by his wife of 49 years, Josephine Hiroko Marian of Quincy; his children, Teresa Marian Roger-Vasselin of Reno, Nev., John Marian of Palos Verdes Estates; his sister, Martha Kelly of Seattle, Wash.; two grandsons; six nephews and seven nieces. In accordance with Paul's wishes, there will be a small family service following cremation.
Loretta Kay "Kate" Ginochio, 60, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, April 13, 2003. She was born in Wichita, Kan. on May 7, 1942. She was raised in Susanville. She and her husband, Lawrence, have lived in Reno for 27 years. She was owner and active crewmember of Crown Beverages, Inc., building a very successful beverage distribution business from the ground up. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Bouchard, stepfather, Duane Bouchard and father, Gene Craddack. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence; sons, Dana of Reno, Scott and his wife, Rhonda of Sparks, Michael of Antioch and Larry and his wife, Darla of Modesto; daughters, Alesia and Gina of St. Paul, Minn.; seven grandchildren and brother, Greg Bouchard. Services were held at Mountain View Mortuary at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, 435 Stoker Ave., Reno. Entombment followed at Mountain View Cemetery
under the direction Mountain View Mortuary.
Arnold Fredrick Perozzi, 37, of Atascadero, Calif., died on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton, Calif.. He was born on Feb. 27, 1965, in San Luis Obispo. He graduated from high school in 1983 and from Lassen College in 1988 where he studied gunsmithing. It was in Susanville that he met his wife, Stephanie. He then returned to the area and worked at Storni's Gun Shop for several years. He then took a job at Weatherby Inc., where he had been for the past 7-1/2 years. He belonged to the Caballeros de San Luis Obispo, SLO Riders and the NRA. His hobbies included cars, hunting, fishing and attending his daughters' sporting events. He is survived by his wife of 12-1/2 years, Stephanie; daughters, Melissa, 9 and Denyelle, 9; parents, Dennis and Pauline Perozzi; brothers, Tim and David Perozzi; sister, Denise and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation was held at Reis Chapel in San Luis Obispo. A Mass of Christian burial was held at the Old Mission Catholic Church in San Luis Obispo. A private burial was held after the service. Dolores "Dee" Elizabeth Crockett died Sunday, March 30, 2003, in Chico. Dee was born to Mearl Tracy and Bertha Quackenbush-Tracy on Nov. 20, 1924, in Grand Rapids, Mich. Dee was a longtime resident of Chico and Chester. She was a member of Tops No. CA2090 Durham and House of Hobbies, where she did ceramics. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ray; her daughter, Sandy MacDonald of Chico; her son, Dan Crockett of Escondido; her sister, Leona Gamble of Bangor; and seven grandchildren. Per her request, no services will be held at this time. An inurnment will be held in Chester at a later date. Rememberances in her memory may be made to your favorite charity.
Evelyn Ray Compton-Sutton, 73, died the morning of April 15, 2003, at Plumas District Hospital in Quincy. Evelyn was born Dec. 22, 1929, to Robert and Gertrude Sutton in Oakdale, La. Her family moved to Pineville, La., where she resided until moving to Quincy in 1957. She graduated from San Jose State University in 1971, receiving her teaching credential. She went to work for the Plumas Unfied School District where she was instrumental in organizing and became a co-founder of the Plumas County Head Start Program. She retired from the school district after more than 20 years of service to the children of the area. Though dedicated to her job, family always came first. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Charles and Riley; sister, Willie Lee Holmes; and two grandsons. Evelyn is survived by her sons, Robert Juel Compton and Karl Chico Compton, both of Reno, Nev., Kenneth Ray Compton of Quincy, Brian David Compton of Reno, Nev., Charles Raynard Compton of Quincy, Rev. Jeffrey Belvin of Richmond, Adrian Bryan Compton of Quincy and Burnell Compton of Reno, Nev.; daughters, Cynthia Denise Compton of Quincy and Caryn Gay Compton of Chico; sisters, Bobbi Johnson of Pomona, Joyce O'Bryant of Quincy and Maxine Phillips of Pomona; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation was held Monday, April 21, 2003 in Quincy. A celebration of Evelyn's life was held Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at the Starlight Baptist Church in East Quincy. Robert "Bob" Zachary died April 10, 2003. He treasured every year he spent in Graeagle reading and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Merilyn; his daughters, Vicki and Robin; and four grandchildren.
Barbara Ruth "Bobbi" Gard, 80, of Salinas, died April 2, 2003, while visiting her daughter in Boise, Idaho. Bobbi was born March 18, 1923, in Bakersfield. She had lived in many places with her family as her husband was in construction. She and her husband enjoyed many years of retirement in the Sonora/Jamestown area where she had many responsibilities in the Jamestown United Methodist Church and the Aronas Womens Club of Sonora. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, handcrafts, dolls, shopping, working at the Cancer Discovery Shop, and keeping up with family graduations, wedding, and baby arrivals. She belonged to the Salinas Women's Club and enjoyed getting acquainted with the Salinas area through their presentations. Over the years she had belonged to Rexland Acres Christian Church in Bakersfield; Farmington Christian Church in Farmington, N.M.; and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Aztec, N.M. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Pinky Gard; and her sister, Dorothy Reeves. Bobbi is survived by her daughters, Barbara Hunter of Boise, Idaho and Patty Nelson of Salinas; her son, Chuck Gard of Valdez, Ala; her sisters, Ruby Caton of Lincoln, Flo Martin of Oakdale and Joey Duff of Hermiston, Ore.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., on May 9, 2003, at Salinas Valley Community Church, 368 San Juan Grade Road, Salinas, CA. Donations can be made to the Shrine Hospital, Masonic Home in Covina, CA and to the Salinas Valley Community Church Chapter Two building fund.

In recent months, Cathy returned to live in Chico where she was a longtime resident from 1946-1980, prior to her retirement at Prattville. Cathy was born to Edwin and Aphia York on July 27, 1921, in San Anselmo. She loved outdoor sports and had an appreciation of wildlife. She enjoyed camping, fishing, bird watching, boating, and waterskiing. Most of her professional life was devoted to the medical community, working for several physicians as their office manager and back office assistant. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Grandstaff. Cathy is survived by her sons, Larry of Sacramento, Ron of San Bernardino and Gerry of Chico; nine grandchildren;six great-grandchildren; and longtime companion John Plank. In keeping with her wishes, a memorial service and celebration of life are scheduled for Thursday, April 24, 2003, at 11 a.m., at the Newman Center in Chico. Arrangements are being handled by her Chico family, 345-3241. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association in Cathy's memory.
Beryl Adelene Thurber died April 14, 2003. She was born in 1903 in Union Hill, N.J. During World War II, she was a Gray Lady, tending to the wounded. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, and a matron of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry. Beryl is survived by her sons, Harry Jr., and Cal; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Private services and interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, Bay Shore, N.Y.
