Angela J. Rios, 47, died Jan. 20, 2003 in Redding. Angela was born on Jan. 16, 1956 in Modesto. She had been a resident of Crescent Mills for 2 and one-half years. She was a Pacific Bell employee in Sacramento for 17 years, worked for Plumas County Probation Department for two years and for Greenville Rancheria for two months. Angela is survived by her husband, mother, father, brother, two nephews and one niece. Per her request, no services will be held.
Luke Matthew Kennedy II
Former Quincy resident Luke Kennedy, 29, died Sunday, January 19, 2003, as the result of an auto accident in Laramie, Wyoming. Luke was born in Red Bluff, May 24, 1973, and was a resident of that area until he graduated in 1991. He then moved to Quincy to attend Feather River College. He worked for the USFS fire crews and was employed at Holiday Market in Quincy. In 1994 he went to work for Western Pacific Railroad. Luke resided on his 100-acre ranch in Laramie, Wyo. He enjoyed hunting, four wheel ATVs, and rodeo. He is survived by his parents, Luke and Sherry Kennedy of Gerber, and his sister Connie of Chico. Myrtle Burnette "Bernie" Clemons
Myrtle Burnette "Bernie" Clemons, 69, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at SunBridge Nursing and Rehabilitation in Quincy. Born Feb. 24, 1933, in Jackson, Miss., she had been a resident of Quincy since 1981. She had resided in San Fernando from 1967 to 1981. Bernie was a member of the Church at Quincy. She enjoyed crocheting and cooking. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Sr., one brother and two sisters. Survivors include her daughters Johnnie Faye Lasiter of Web City, Mo., Pamela Sue Fuller of Reno, Nev., and Cecelia Joyce Stagen of Quincy; her son Clifford Clemons Jr., of Quincy; brother Jimmie Maddox of Jackson, Miss.; sisters Carol Jean Bock of Phoenix, Ariz., C. Anne Clemons of Corcoran, Charleen Lester and Carolyn White, both of Jackson, Miss.; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Visitation was today, Wednesday, Jan. 22, from 9 a.m. to noon at Fehrman Mortuary Chapel in Quincy; to be followed by a celebration of her life at graveside in the Quincy East Lawn Cemetery

Rosalie E. Foster, 64, died in her home in San Jacinto on Jan. 19, 2003, after a short illness. Rosalie was born to Bud and Leda Jarvis on March 1, 1938, in Whittier and attended Montebello High School. She married Bill Foster in 1967, and moved to Portola in 1971. She worked for Pearson Realty, the Feather River Prep School and owned and operated the Sandwich Place in Portola for several years. She was preceded in death by her parents and her only child, Randall Reed. Rosalie is survived by her husband, William Foster; two stepdaughters, Marcia Hardisty of Graham, Wash., and Candy Putinta of Blairsden; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A private memorial service was held at her home in San Jacinta on Jan. 25, 2003.
Aida Elworthy, 103, of Chico, died on Jan. 19, 2003 at a local care facility. Aida was born on Jan. 3, 1900 in Mishawaka, Ind., to Marshall and Ida Valentine. She married Clay Elworthy in March 1921. She was a mother and a homemaker. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Quincy. She was an avid square dancer who also enjoyed fishing and loved her home in the mountains. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clay. Aida is survived by her daughter, Aida Jane Williams of Chico; son Carvel F. Elworthy of Arnold; three granddaughters; two grandsons; and seven great-grandchildren. Family services will be held at a later date at the Cromberg Cemetery
in Cromberg.
Edna A. Short, 101, died on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, at Lassen Community Hospital in Susanville. She was born in Prattville, Calif. on Aug. 30, 1900 and had been a Lassen County resident for the past 64 years. She moved to Lassen County from Greenville, where she learned to become an avid gardener and grow flowers, which she did for a major portion of her life. Edna owned an operated a grocery store in Janesville for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Short and son, Jack Short. Edna is survived by her daughter, Noma Langslet of Susanville, five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held Saturday, Aug. 31 at the Janesville Cemetery.
Emma Lillian Strong, 89, died in Santa Rosa on Sept. 5, 2002. Emma was born in Payson, Utah on Dec. 5, 1912. She moved from Nevada to Lassen County in 1954 with her husband and family. In 1974, she moved to Cotati. Emma worked as a clerk in the Scrap & Salvage Office at the Sierra Army Depot in Herlong until retiring in 1972. She enjoyed sewing and quilting. Emma is survived by her three daughters, Charlotte Barker of Rohnert Park; Kathleen Johnson of Calistoga; and Della Hoy of Chilcoot; her son, David Strong of Atascadero; sister, Lois Remas of Mt. Angel, Ore.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Mountain Valley Ward in Standish on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002 at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at the Diamond Crest Cemetery.
Frederic Wright Graham, 67, died Aug. 30, 2002 at Redding Medical Center in Redding. Fred was born Nov. 19, 1934 in Bradford, Pa. He had been a resident of Greenville for the past 13 years after moving from Hamilton Branch. Fred served as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Red Bluff Fire Department prior to moving to Plumas County. Fred enjoyed the outdoors, black powder shooting and fishing. He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. He was preceeded in death by one sister. Fred is survived by his wife, Bettie Graham of Greenville; son, Bradley Graham of Waitsburgs, Wash.; daughter, Vickie Overton of Branson, Mo.; mother, Virginia Fuss of Jamestown, N.Y.; three granddaughters; three great-granddaughters and one great-grandson. Douglas Robert Munns, 46, died Sept. 4, 2002, at his home in Chester. Douglas was born Dec. 11, 1955. He was raised in Beloit, Wis. and graduated from Turner High School in 1974. He attended Cosmetology College in Janesville, Wis. and Milwaukee, Wis. Doug had been a resident of Chester since moving from Pomona in 1984. He worked as a self-employed hairdresser. Doug was a member of the Chester Volunteer Fire Department where he was a certified EMT. He was a Black Powder Gun enthusiast and a member of the E. Clampus Vitus Vigilante Chapter 8 Post 1911. He was also interested in Civil War history, and was involved in numerous Civil War reenactments. He was a member of the National Civil War Association and the Reenactors of the American Civil War. Doug is survived by his wife, Nancy of Chester; sisters, Renee Myers and Chris Schwab, both of Janesville, Wis.; and his uncle, Bob McCartney of Rockton, Ill. Private family visitations, followed by a procession of Fire and Emergency Vehicles from the funeral home to the cemetery took place on the morning of Sept. 9, 2002. Ralph Issac Lloyd, 80, died Sept. 4, 2002, at Indian Valley District Hospital in Greenville. Ralph was born Sept. 16, 1921 in in Greenville, Tenn. He had been a resident of Greenville for 26 years. Ralph served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during World War II. He continued serving the public as a firefighter, retiring from the Contra Costa County Fire Department after 29 years. Ralph was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a member and Past Master of Sincerity Lodge No. 132 F & A.M. and had served as Worthy Patron of the Greenville Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. He was active in the Boy and Girl Scouts while living in San Pablo, as well as Little League. He was a member of the Greenville Post of the VFW. Ralph enjoyed fishing and baseball.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Ralph is survived by his wife, Betty of Greenville; children, Allanah Stone of Vallejo; Sandra Lloyd and Wanda Lloyd, both of Chula Vista; and Ralph C. Lloyd of Orinda; and two grandsons. Visitations were held Sept. 6, 2002. A celebration of his life was held Sept. 7, 2002 at the Greenville Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Kenneth Dale Peterson (Cooper) of Salt Lake City, Utah died recently in Oroville. Kenneth was born on April 10, 1964 in Portola. He was a Portola High School graduate and had many friends and family in the area. He was preceeded in death by his father, Dean Peterson; parents, Gary and Jennae Cooper; and his children, Mathew and Ryan Peterson. He is survived by his brother, Kirt Cooper of Sacramento; sister, Chandra Thayer of Chilcoot; and his grandfather, Harry Johnson of Sacramento. Private family services will be held at a later date.
Long time Portola resident, Ethel Ruth Schererhorn Dorithy, 94, died August 14, 2002, at Eastern Plumas Hospital in Portola. Mrs. Dorithy was born Ethel Ruth on February 5, 1908, in Kansas City, Kan. Her early years were spent in Kansas, Nebraska and Texas. She moved with her family to Carlin, Nevada, in 1928 and met Julius Calvin "Cal" Dorithy there. They were married in Carson CIty, in 1934 and the next several years were spent in Reno and Challenge, while Cal was in the Forest Service. They celebrated 54 years of marriage before Cal's death in 1988. The Dorithys moved to Portola in 1941 where they were both active in community affairs. Mrs. Dorithy taught piano for many years and was active in community musical presentations. For a number of years she was organist and vocalist with the Community Methodist Church. Mrs. Dorithy was also pianist for the popular "Melody Aces", a dance band that performed in this area in the 40's and 50's. She is survived by her son, Jack Dorithy of Shingle Springs; one grandson; and three great- grandchildren. Private graveside services were held at Quincy Cemetery

Gertrude "Trudie" Frailey, 78, died on Aug. 26, 2002, at her home outside of Greenville. "Trudie" was born on June 24, 1924 in San Francisco. She had been a resident of Greenville for the past 20 years. She enjoyed floral arranging, crocheting and many other crafts. She had been active with scout troops in both Livermore and Greenville. "Trudie" was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Frailey; and sons, Ronald Dunning, David Fisher and Melvin Frailey. She is survived by her children, Dale Fischer of Greenville, Phillis Pinkston of Martinez and Luellen Diaz of Antioch; her brother, Gunther Fischer of Sacramento; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Following cremation, private family services will be held. Private scattering will take place on the family property outside of Greenville.
