Gena Marvel Wussow, 72, died on Saturday, June 1, 2002, at her home in East Quincy. Gena was born January 7, 1930, in Bryan, Ohio. She had been a resident of Quincy for the past 39 years, after moving from Bryan, Ohio. Gena had dedicated her life to her family, and as a certified nurses aide for over 30 years to providing unparalleled care, to the elderly at Quincy Convalescent Hospital. She was a member of the Quincy Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Gena was a marvelous gardener who was envied by many for her green thumb. She enjoyed the outdoors through camping and panning for gold throughout the streams of the area. Gena is survived by her sons Raymond J. Calvin of Bryan, Ohio, Samuel M. Gray of Corning and Matthew B. Gray of Quincy; daughters Margaret E. Turk of Modesto, Legena J. Hogan of Corning and Leslye E. Yazzie of Sun Valley, Nev.; brothers Leonard Cooley of Guntura, Ore., Homer J. Cooley of Oroville, Roy Cooley of Payette, Idaho, Jess and Scott Cooley both of Bryan, Ohio; sisters Marie Dooms of Nampa, Idaho and Retha Williams-Selby of Quincy; along with two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Ernest. Prior to cremation at a private family celebration of her life was held. Interment will take place at a later date. Viola Mildred Cameron, 85, died on May 20, 2002, at Plumas District Hospital in Quincy. Viola was born Feb. 8, 1917, in Hay Springs, Neb. She had been a Plumas County resident for 75 years, residing in Seneca and Greenville. She had spent a short time in Oregon prior to moving from Nebraska. Vi liked to fish and visit with her friends and neighbors on her walks. She enjoyed reading and drawing. Vi is survived by her daughter Deanie Flourney of Oroville; sisters Maxine Palazzi of Greenville and Alta Tweedle of Oroville, as well as four grandchildren and 20 nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Donald, two brothers and one sister. Following cremation, a celebration of Vi's life will be held at the graveside in the Greenville District Cemetery

John Elliott Cline, 71, died on May 26, 2002, at his home in Calpine, where he had resided for nine years. John was born June 6, 1931, in Los Angeles to Frank Ernest and Margaret Jene Elliot Cline. He received a B.A. in history from UCLA in 1956; a Masters of Divinity from Church Divinity School of the Pacific, Berkeley in 1959; MA in Marriage Family Child Counseling from the University of San Francisco in 1977. John enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Korea from 1952-1954, then returned as a Chaplain (LTC) 1963-1972 serving in Vietnam. He continued as a Chaplain in the National Guard, 1972-1983. His civilian career as a Episcopal Priest led him to St. Andrews in Lake Elisnore, 1959-63; Church of the Ascension in Sunnymead, 1961-63; St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Crescent City, 1973-86; St. Michaels in Alturas, 1986-90; followed by a brief time at St. Joseph's in Yucca Valley and St. Martin in the Field in 29 Palms. John was very active in many Masonic Organizations: PM of Crescent Lodge #445; Secretary of Grizzly Lodge #601; York Rite Bodies KYCH; Member of Sierra Stars OES, Sierraville, and Ben Ali Shrine. He was a former board member of the Calpine Improvement Association. In past years he held memberships in Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club and Lion's Club. John was a volunteer for many organizations also: U.S.F.S. in Sierra County where he assisted archeologists on pre-historic and historical sites; docent at Plumas Eureka State Park and member of the Board of Directors; Dept.artment of Interior where he assisted with mapping roads; Portola Library where he volunteered one evening per week as the librarian. The last seven years he worked at the Sierra County Landfill in Loyalton. John was preceded in death by his parents, and son Frank Atwill Cline in 1999. He is survived by his wife, Susan of Calpine; daughters Nancy Jene Wright of Richmond, Va., and Deborah Ann Knochenhauer of Cameron Park; as well as two granddaughters. A private graveside inurnment has taken place in Sierra Mountain Cemetery, Truckee. A memorial service is scheduled for June 28, 2002, at 2 p.m. at St. Nicholas Church, 855 West Lake Blvd. in Tahoe City. Memorials can be made to Camp Noel Porter Scholarship Fund, P.O. Joan March Allen, 77, died on May 15, 2002, at Eastern Plumas District Hospital in Portola. Joan was born on June 18, 1924 in Michigan. She had lived in Clio for the past 12 years. She retired from Teladyne Systems where she was an assembly line worker for the aerospace industry for 20 years. Joan enjoyed reading.
She is survived by her son, Stephen Lee Holt of San Diego and daughter Georganne Holt of Clio. Private inurnment will be held at a later date.
Robert George Bernier, 82, died on May 18, 2002, at Eastern Plumas District Hospital, Long Term Care in Portola. He had been a resident of Graeagle since 1979. Robert was born July 21, 1919, in Michigan City, Ind. He received a degree in civil engineering. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. Robert was the sanitary engineer for the U.S. Navy, Department of Public Works which covered the 12th Naval District. He served in that capacity for 16 years. Robert was a long time member of the N.R.A. and very active in their institute for legislative action. He is survived by good friend Geraldine Soderland of Graeagle; his brothers, George of San Carlos and Edward of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and his sister, Mary Binns of Seattle, Wash. A graveside funeral service was held at Whispering Pines Cemetery
in Portola on May 24, 2002.
Jerome "Jerry" Landry, 83, died on Sunday, May 19, 2002, at his home in Portola. Jerome was born on Feb. 8, 1919 in Pelham, N.H. He owned and operated Jerry Landry Masonry for 30 years. There are many homes and businesses in the area completed with his craftsmanship. He learned his skill in the construction business in Vt and Fla. Jerry served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed fishing, being outside and enjoying nature. At Christmas time, he made wreaths and gave them away to people. He liked to help people. He is survived by his sons Clifton and Scott, both of Portola; his stepson Michael Perry of Fla.; his stepdaughter Pam Hites of Ga. and three grandchildren. The family invites all who knew Jerry to come and share memories and say good bye at an outdoor memorial gathering on Saturday, June 1 at 2 p.m. at the home of Scott Landry, 1020 Manzanita in Portola.
Shirley Kathleen Stiles Haas, age 70, of Portola died at Eastern Plumas District Hospital on May 22, 2002. She was born March 26, 1932, in Amsterdam, N.Y. Shirley had been a resident of Portola for the last nine years, prior to which she had been a resident of Amador County since 1965. She enjoyed being a homemaker. For the past 42 years she had been an active member of the Jehovah's Witnesses, and a member of the Kingdom Hall in Portola. Shirley is survived by her children: Joseph Haas, Tracey O'Riley and Cheryl Haas of Ione; Jared Haas of Chowchilla, Patricia Haas of Citrus Heights, Cynthia Brown and Teresa Stevens of Portola and Shelley Ahlers of Crescent City; her brother Arthur Stiles of Lake Elsinor; her sister Grace Matthews of Rancho Murieta; 20 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and many friends. A memorial service was held May 25, 2002 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Portola. Private family inurnment was held. Memorial Contributions can be sent to Tahoe Forest Hospice, P.O. John A. "Bob" Sobrero died May 13, 2002 at the veterans hospital, in Yountville. He was born to John and Lena Sobrero on Aug. 27, 1918 in Genesee. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1936. John served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He worked as a carpenter and was a contractor, and a long-standing member of VFW and Lions Club. John is survive by his daughters; Lynn of Eureka, Gail of Eagle Idaho; his son Tony of Montana; eight grandchildren and his sisters Marie Brand and Louise McIntyre, both of Greenville.
Lois Helene Rogers Korzen, 88, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at the Olive Ridge Care Center in Oroville. Born June 2, 1913, in Campbellsburg, Ind., she moved to Chester in 1989 from Bloomington, Ind. where she had resided for twelve years. Due to her declining health, she was required to move to Oroville two years ago. A devoted homemaker Lois had worked as a waitress along with helping her husband ferry cars from Indiana to California. Lois had gained great pleasure in the friendly ties she had developed as a resident of the Chester-Lake Almanor area. An avid Bingo player, Lois was a member of the Chester Seniors and always looked forward to the monthly bus trips to Reno, Nev. to try her luck in the casinos. Lois is survived by her daughters, Donna Sue Poole of Exeter and Carolyn June Stevens of Highlands Ranch, Colo., brother Ted Rogers of Bloomington, Idaho, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband John in 1987 and one grandson. A celebration of Lois's life will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, June 1, 2002 at the Fehrman Mortuary Chapel in Chester. Interment along with crypt side services took place Thursday, May 23, in the Valhalla Memorial Gardens, Bloomington, Idaho. Edith Luke Dieter, 91, died at Sunbridge Nursing Home on Nov. 24, 2002. She was born in Parsons, Kan on July 28, 1911. She resided in Lassen County since the age of five. She was well-known for her wonderful sense of humor and she waited on her customers over a period of 40 years at Peggy Rose Shop, Long's Shoe Store, Torrey Drug, Barbee Hardware and later as a volunteer at the Salvation Army Thrift Store. Dieter was a longtime member of the Rebecca's lodge in Susanville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orval, in 1984. She is survived by her only remaining brother, Loren "Buzz" Luke of Susanville; daughter, Marilyn Theorodelos of Issaquah, Wash.; sons, Ray Dieter of Pendleton, Ore. and Jerry Dieter of Susanville, as well as six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held at Janesville Cemetery
on Wednesday, Nov. 27. The family requests that any donations be made to a favorite charity.
Lorenzo Horn Moreno, 66, died on Nov. 21, 2002, in Litchfield. He was born on Feb. 2, 1936 in Fallon, Nev. and was a resident of Lassen County for 63 years. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Moreno of Litchfield; sister, Celia Hernandez of Las Vegas; niece, Rosalia Hernandez of Las Vegas and nephews, Aaron Moreno of Susanville, Philip Lorenzo Lammers of Lovelock, Nev., Joshua Moreno of Litchfield and Kiko Hernandez of Las Vegas. Services will be at 2 p.m., today, Tuesday, Dec. 3 at the Susanville Indian Rancheria Cemetery.
Harold Palmer, 78, died Nov. 30, 2002 at Washoe Medical Center. Harold was born in Jump River, Wis. on July 28, 1924. He had been a resident of Lassen County for the past 54 years. He had worked for Fruit Growers Industries for 50 years as a truck driver and faller. He enjoyed is family, hunting, fishing and gardening. Harold is survived by his wife of 58 years, Vernice, of Susanville; three daughters, Sandy Ormachea, Dianna Del Carlo and Darlene Walsh, all of Susanville; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandsons. Graveside services will be held at Diamond Crest Cemetery
on Dec. 4, 2002 at 1 p.m.
Ralph Davis Blake, 86, died Nov. 27, 2002, at Seneca District Hospital in Chester. Ralph was born on Aug. 11, 1916 in Roswell, Idaho, to Herbert and Grace Wyngarden Blake. He had been a resident of Lake Almanor East Shore for the past 23 years, moving from Bellflower. Ralph was a sheet metal worker and had worked for 45 years for Consolidated-Vultee and Hugh's Brothers Aircraft. He was an avid golfer and longtime member of Lake Almanor West Men's Club, as well as a fisherman. Following his retirement, he continued tinkering in his garage. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Margaret Covey; and one sister. Ralph is survived by his wife, Klara of the Lake Almanor East Shore; sons, Tom Blake of Huntington Beach and Lowell Blake of the Lake Almanor East Shore; his sister, Florence Stevens of Del Marr; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
