Arthur Wesley Jamison, 76, died on Saturday, May 12, 2001 at his residence in Crescent Mills, Calif. He had been a resident of Crescent Mills for the past three years, moving here from Eagle Lake, Calif., where he had resided for more than 20 years. He was born Feb., 4, 1925, in Los Angeles, Calif. He had retired from the U.S. Navy after 34 years of service to his country. He had served with the U.S. Navy during World War II in the North Atlantic in anti-submarine operations and tracking adverse weather. He was awarded the Air Medal for his meritorious achievement in Aerial Flight Operations along with numerous other citations. Art went on to serve during both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts as a Naval aircraft ordinance crewman. He was a member of the Retired Enlisted Mens Association of America, American Legion Post 162 of Eagle Lake, Calif., where he served as a former commander, NRA and AARP. He served the Community of Eagle Lake as a longtime member of the Water District. He is survived by his wife Paula, of Crescent Mills; daughters, Elizabeth Soder, of Quincy, Calif., Michelle Michael, of Meadow Valley, Calif., Betty Johnson and Terry Jamison, of Wichita, Kan., Tina Hammett, of Nampa, Idaho and Debra Mattix, of Woodlake, Calif., and numerous grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son and one daughter. Following cremation at Fehrman Crematory in Quincy, private family services were held. The family requests any donations in his memory be made to the Eagle Lake American Legion Post 162 c/o Fehrman Mortuary and Crematory P. O. Box 803 Greenville, Calif., 95947.
Carolyne Louise Price, 79, Saturday, June 2, 2001, at Enloe Community Hospital in Chico, Calif. She had been a resident of the Lake Almanor Peninsula since 1962, moving here form Cuppertino, Calif. She was born April 6, 1922, in Rinsler, Ind. She was employed as an administrative secretary with CPU for 18 years working in the Westwood Office until its closing. She retired out of the company's Susanville office. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved to sew and cook for her family. She was a longtime member of the Westwood Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and had been highly active with the Job's Daughters at both the local and state levels. She was an accomplished artist who enjoyed painting in oils and water colors, along with partaking in all types of crafts. She and her husband at one time were active square dancing participants. She is survived by her husband, R. "Bob" Price of 63 years, of the Lake Almanor Peninsula; sons, Michael and Kenneth, both of Westwood, Calif.; daughters, Maureen Price-De La Cruz, of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Jean Finnerty, of Pyramid Lake, Nev.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three grandchildren, one brother and one sister. A celebration of her life will be held at the Graveside in the Chester District Cemetery, in Chester. Followed by Order of Eastern Star committal services Wednesday, June 6, 2001.
Chester Rich, 80, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, from natural causes at Mercy Medical Center in Redding, Calif. He was born Feb. 17, 1921, in Oakland, Calif. He moved to Tehema County in 1983 from Susanville. He was a teacher of many subjects in Lassen, Tehema and Plumas counties. He was a member of the California Teacher's Association. He is survived by his wife Mary Rich, of Los Molinos; sons, Russel, of Auburn, Calif., Scott, of Rancho Cordova and Craig, of Portland, Ore.; daughter, Penelope "Penny," of Redding, Calif.; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Services were held Satuday, June 16.
Dennis Marvin Ford, 52, of San Luis Obispo, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at his residence. He was born Oct. 19, 1948, in Susanville to Marvin and Florence Ford. After graduating from Lassen High School, he served with the Army in Vietnam. He was proceeded in death by his mother, Florence; father, Marvin; sister, Judy and brother Gene Ford who died in Vietnam. He is survived by his Aunt and Uncle, Velma and Willis Vineyard, of Susanville, two nieces, Marvina Martinez, Tonya Taylor, and favorite cousin, Fern Stewart as well as numerous cousins. No service was held in Susanville. Burial was at Diamond Crest Cemetery.
Leonard A. Nelson died May 9, 2001, in Roseville. He was a native of San Francisco and graduated from Mission High School. After marriage, he resided in San Carlos for 30 years. His retirement of 20 years was spent at Lake Almanor. Leonard was a 45-year charter member of the Elks, and a 50-year life member of the Elks, and a 50-year life member of Plumber's Local 467; he was also a member of AOPA. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Josephine; daughter, Kristine Corn; son, Robert Nelson; sister, Ethel Nelson Perino; and three grandchildren. He enjoyed flying, world travel, his family, friends and the mountains of Lake Almanor. Inurnment and a memorial were held in San Francisco May 31 for the family. The family requests all contributions in his memory be made to Ride To Walk, a therapeutic riding program for disabled children, 8485 Barton Road, Granite Bay, CA 95746.
Richard Arlen Lewis, 62, died at his Elk Grove home May 28, 2001, after a short illness. He was born in Chico Dec. 23, 1938, to Norma and Milton Wakefield. Raised in Chico, he was a descendant of the Lewis and Clark explorer, Merriweather Lewis. In 1956, he graduated from Chico High School, where he played in the band. After graduating, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany where he met Hilda Rinck. They were married June 1, 1963, and later divorced. During his youth, Richard, an avid lover of water sports, was a member of the Chico Water Ski Club. He spent summers with his family at Lake Almanor Country Club and was the club's first life guard. In the late '60s, Lewis moved to Sacramento, where he was employed as a car salesman. During this time, he met Ardie Meyer who was his loving partner for 14 years. In the spring of 1993, they relocated to the Big Springs area of Lake Almanor, where they enjoyed life for the next seven years. Together, they attended Sacramento Kings games, jazz festivals and traveled. In 2000, they returned to the Sacramento area where he died. On Saturday, June 2, a memorial service was held for Richard at the Assembly of God Church in Chico. Selections by his favorite, Louis Armstrong, were played during the service, which was conducted by Pastor Tim Ruhl. Richard's survivors include his son, Michael Lewis of Susanville; brother, Don Lewis of Chico; and granddaughter, Anna Lewis; and his longtime companion, Ardith Meyer. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society at 2889 Cohasset Rd., Suite 6, Chico, CA 95973.
Rosemary Catherine Milton, 79, died June 6, 2001, at Churchill Community Hospital in Fallon, Nev. She was born Nov. 23, 1921, in Crescent Mills to Frank Stampfli and Catherine Moore. She lived in Fallon for four years, moving there from Rochester, Wash. She had also lived in Quincy for many years. Rosemary worked as a social worker for the state of California for 17 years. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Ward Five. Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Milton, in March 2000. She is survived by her daughters, Nelda Parsons of Fallon, Nev., Nancy Richardson of Yerington, Nev., and Sencie Patchin of Tombstone, Ariz.; sons, Bob Milton of Rochester, Wash., and Frank Lambert of Pahrump, Nev.; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Memorial services took place Saturday, June 9, at the LDS Church Tolace Place, Fallon, Nev.
Frederick August Reil, Jr., 88, died Wednesday afternoon, June 6, 2001, at Seneca District Hospital in Chester. He was born Jan. 10, 1913, in Redmond, Wash. He had been a vacation resident of the Lake Almanor Peninsula from 1964-1985, at which time he moved to the area permanently from Manchester, Wash. Fred worked as a pipe-fitter for over 35 years, except for a brief period of time working in the plumbing and air conditioning field. He had been employed in the shipyards of the West Coast. He retired from the Bremerton Shipyard, where he worked on the construction and retrofitting of our nuclear submarine fleet. He was a longtime member of the Plumber and Pipefitters Union Local 144 of Sacramento. He is a former member of the Reno Eagles Lodge. Fred lettered in high school football, where he played quarterback; basketball, where he served as team captain; and baseball. He is a graduate of Redmond High School in Redmond, Wash., where he served as student body president and during his junior and senior years of school served as the school bus driver. During adulthood, Fred took up bowling.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Alda Reil, in 1996; one brother; and one sister. Fred is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rhea McKenzie-Reil, of the Lake Almanor Peninsula; son, John Reil of Carson City, Nev.; brothers, Willis Reil of Gardnerville, Nev., and Walter Reil of Spokane, Wash.; four grandsons; and four great-grandchildren. Following cremation, private family graveside services were held in the family plot, located in the Sattley Cemetery. The family requests any donations in his memory be made to the Long Term Care Unit of Seneca Health Care District, c/o Fehrman Mortuary and Crematory, P.O. Box 803, Greenville, CA 95947.
Lillian Wilson Ehrke, 97, died Wednesday evening, May 23, 2001, at SunBridge Nursing and Rehabilitation in Quincy. She was born April 24, 1904, in Fort Atkinson, Wis., and had been a resident of Quincy since the 1970s, moving there from Medford, Ore. Lillian was a devout Christian and longtime member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She loved to read the Bible, recite Psalms of the Bible and sing Christian hymns. She was the last surviving member of her family. Following cremation, a celebration of her life was held at the Fehrman Mortuary Chapel in Quincy Thursday, May 31, at 7 p.m. Inurnment will take place privately in the Quincy East Lawn Cemetery.

Jim Harvey Chapman, 71, died May 26, 2001, at EPDH in Portola. He was born Nov. 29, 1929, in Portola.
Jim was a Portola High School graduate.
He worked as a tree feller at the Tarter-Webster- Johnson Mill in Delleker from 1946-1961. He moved to Sacramento, where he was in the maintenance department of Aero-Jet for several years. He then transferred to the Phillips Air Conditioning Company, followed by maintenance at the Farmers Rice Co-op., all of Sacramento. He returned to Plumas County and Graeagle in 1997. Jim enjoyed the outdoors, woodworking and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Yolanda Chapman, of Graeagle; aunt and uncle, Angie and William Urbani; and two cousins. A funeral mass was held June 1, followed by burial in Vinton Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the A.L.S. Association, 27001 Agoura Road, No. 150, Calabasas Hills, CA 91310-5104.
