Martha D. Gallo
Martha D. Gallo passed away on
February 27, 2008 at the Alexander
Cohen Hospice House in Hughson
following a lengthy illness. She was
75.
Martha was born Feb. 8, 1933 in
Schenectady, New York to Andres
and Martha Smith. She lived in Toledo,
Ohio and Saint Johnsbury, Vermont
before moving to Pleasanton in
1973.
She is survived by a brother Jacob
Smith and his wife Norma of Boone,
NC, and her three sons and their families:
William D. and Lisa Gallo and
children Chelsea, Talia and Sam; Andrew
C. and Cheryl Gallo and children
Chris, Joe and Melissa; and Jeffrey S.
and Tammie Gallo and children Jeremy,
Tera and Seth. She was preceded
in death by her husband William H.
Gallo.
Martha adored her grandchildren
and enjoyed the times they would
come and stay with her. She also
enjoyed gardening and traveling.
She met William in the military
where he was an air traffic controller
and Martha a teletype repair person in
the Air Force. She made a home for her
husband and children, then continued
her education after the military, earning
a BA in liberal arts from the University
of Toledo. She and William
were extensive travelers, camping
across the U.S.A. and visiting Egypt,
France and Israel. She was fluent in
French and spoke Dutch as well.
Martha enrolled in St. Georges College
in Israel, pursuing her fascination
with the history of that part of the
world. Martha greatly enjoyed her
annual visits with her brother Jake.
She maintained a deep attachment and
involvement with Grace Evangelical
Church in Boone. Pastor Tim Smith
traveled to Pleasanton to preside over
her service.
Funeral services were held March
5 in Pleasanton. Burial was at Memory
Gardens Cemetery in Livermore.
Remembrances may be made to
Alexander Cohen Hospice House in
Hughson, CA or to the Grace Evangelical
Church Pastor’s Discretionary
Fund in Boone, North Carolina.

Terry Allison
Terry G. Allison, age 63, died
Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at home with
his family and the care of Hospice of
Citrus County, Florida.
Terry was born March 13, 1944, in
Oakland,  Calif. and served in the U.S.
Army. He was a Computer Programmer
in the Computation Directorate of
the Lawrence Livermore National
Laboratory, in Livermore from 1961
until 1988.
Terry moved to Florida in 1997
and to Citrus County, Florida, in 2000.
Mr. Allison was active with the AARP
Tax Aide program and was the past
district coordinator. He loved traveling
in an RV and living in the mountains
of California and North Carolina.
Survivors include his wife
Kathryn; mother, Ardis Allison of
Oregon; sister, Wanda Allison-Macan
of France; his children, Elizabeth
Bowen, Darin McCarty, and Kevin
McCarty, all of Florida, and William
Ross of California; and five grandchildren.
Private memorial service will be
held at a later date.
If family and friends so desire,
memorial contributions may be made
to Hospice of Citrus County, Florida.

Philip H. Long
Philip H. Long passed away unexpectedly
on January 30, 2008 at the age
of 74 years. He was a much loved and
respected man, and a devoted family
man whom all could count on. He will
be remembered for his quick wit, unconditional
love, and caring style that
showed strength, compassion and
kindness. Phil will be deeply missed
by all who knew and loved him, and
fondly remembered in our hearts and
memories.
The San Leandro resident was born
in Alturas, California on May 18,
1933. He was one of seven children of
Jay and Mary Long. His is survived
and loved by his wife of 42 years, Ella
Long; his daughters Mary Coulson
and her husband Robert, Debra
Matchette and her husband Raymond;
his grandchildren Jonathan and Sarah
Coulson, Yvette and Tony Matchette;
his great grandchildren Anthony and
Ajah Matchette; his sisters Sharon
Long, Margaret Hardy and her husband
Claude, and Marilyn Cate and
her husband Bill; his brother Jay Long;
and numerous other family members.
He was preceeded in death by his son
Alan James, his brother Stanley
Halverson, and his sister Patricia
Bauch.
Phil grew up in Alameda and Oakland,
CA. He attended Porter Elementary
School, Clairmont Jr. High School,
and Alameda High School. He earned
his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
at UC Berkeley. He also
served in the US Army Infantry in
Korea.
Phil had a long career as a public
employee. He worked for the City of
Alameda for 13 years (1958-1971) as
a Civil Engineer; City of San Leandro
for 14 years (1971-1985) as a Traffic/
Civil Engineer and Public Works Director;
City of Brisbane for 4 years
(1986-1990) as Public Works Director/
City Engineer. He then consulted
as a Traffic/Civil Engineer for 3 years
(1990-1993). He also served on the
City of Alameda Planning Board for 2
years (1975-1977).
Phil was an avid reader and loved
watching sports (“go 49ers“). His
passions included spending time at
“the cabin” in the gold country, and
traveling the world with his wife Ella.
He took a special interest in his grandchildren,
and had an extraordinary
love for them.
A celebration of Phil’s life will be
held in the spring, open for family and
friends. Date, time and location to be
determined. Family can be contacted
for further information.

Martin “Tin-Lil Yogi” Espinoza, Jr.
Martin Espinoza was born Nov.
11, 1983 in Livermore. He passed
away February 29, 2008 in Livermore
after a courageous battle with cancer.
Martin was a hard worker and a
member of the Local #3 Painters Union.
He enjoyed taking road trips along the
coast and loved to draw in his spare
time. He loved to be with his children,
family and close friends.
Martin is survived by his wife
Erica Espinoza, son Ricky Espinoza
and daughter Alexis Devina Espinoza;
parents Adrienne and Martin Sr.,
grandparents Kathy and Jose Chavez,
great grandmother Willi Eskew, sister
and brother-in-law Marisela and Junior
Martinez, Maria DeJesus Espinoza,
and Maritza Espinoza; godchildren
Cita and Nico, long time friend Dianna
Macias, several aunts and uncles and
many more relatives.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m.
with Vigil at 7 p.m. on Thurs., March
7 at Callaghan Mortuary, 3833 East
Ave., Livermore. Mass of the Resurrection
will be celebrated on Fri., March
8 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic
Church, 458 Maple St., Livermore.
Graveside services will follow at St.
Michael’s Catholic Cemetery on East
Ave.

George C. Wolfer
It is with great sadness that the
family of George announces his
passing in his home on April 27,
2010, after a brief illness.
George was the beloved
husband of the late AnnaBelle
Wolfer, caring father of Dorothy
Young, Vicky Kerr (Randy), Diane
McGuire (Mick), and Donald
Smith (Alyson); devoted grandfather
to Robin, Jennifer, Raelene
(Chris), Jamie (Rob), Jackie
(Daryl), Roxanne, Charlotte, and
Samantha; great-grandfather to
Alyssa; brother to Evelyn, and
companion to his very dear and
good friend, Nora. George was
preceded in death by his parents
Bertha and Andrew Wolfer, and
brothers Charlie and John, and
sister, Louisa.
George was born in Spokane,
WA on July 12, 1930.
He attended John Rogers High.
George joined the Navy and
saw combat during the Korean
Conflict. George was honorably
discharged in 1951. In 1952,
George embarked on his new
career with Kaiser Aluminum,
(retiring in 1987), in Livermore,
CA, where he made his home for
the last 41 years. George loved
to travel, especially going up to
the Oregon and  Washington area,
camping and sight-seeing.
George loved working on
home improvement projects,
working on the computer, relaxing
in his home, and enjoying his
family. He will be greatly missed
by his family and friends.
Friends and family attended
a memorial service on Monday,
May 3 in Livermore. In lieu of
flowers, please make donations
to the charity of your choice in
memory of George.
