Ronald Dewey King
Ronald Dewey King passed
away on Monday, October 26,
2009, at ValleyCare Medical
Center in Pleasanton after a
brief illness. His daughter, son
in law, and friends were at his
side. He was 72 years old.
Ron was born on September
13, 1937, in Maryland to Irma
and Dewey King. The family
moved to California in 1943,
and settled in Mountain View.
Ron came to Livermore in 1967
and lived there until his passing,
for a total of 42 years.
Ron was very proud of his
military service. He joined the
Navy in 1961, and was honorably
discharged in 1967. He served
on the USS Iwo Jima during the
Cuban Missile Crisis. While in
the navy he met the love of his
life, Encarnacion, (Cora) in the
Philippines and married her in
1964 after a whirlwind romance.
Ron was honorably discharged
from the Navy in 1967, and he
came to Livermore where his
parents had moved to in order
to get a job, and save money to
bring his bride home. Ron and
Cora adopted their only daughter,
Anna, in 1968. Ron started
working at Coast Manufacturing
in Livermore in 1965, and continued
working there when it became
Hexcel Corporation. Ron
was very proud of his work in the
Quality Assurance Department
and the materials they developed
there. Ron retired from Hexcel in
2006 after 40 years. Ron loved
to hunt, fish, camp, travel and
he was a diehard 49ers fan . He
used to make yearly treks across
the country to Virginia, or  Texas,
to visit distant family and friends.
He and Cora used to spend
many weekends camping at lakes
around California, and near the
coast. Later he purchased a boat
and spent many happy years on
the delta fishing, and visiting
with friends. Ron was a man of
simple tastes, and was happiest
visiting with friends, and recalling
the old days in the Navy and
the Sea Scouts.
Ron was an extremely generous
man. His door was always
open to anyone who needed help.
Ron and Cora sponsored 3 Vietnamese
families in their home in
the 1970s, along with many
friends and family members who
were down on their luck.
Ron was preceded in death
by wife of 42 years, Encarnacion
(Cora) King in 2006. He is
survived by his daughter, Anna
Stanley of Livermore, son in
law Peter Stanley, and granddaughters’
Cassandra, Caitlin and
Arianna. He is also survived by
his brother, Jerry (Pauline) King,
and sister, Carole (Ray) Boyes,
and many nieces and nephews.
Ron will be interred at San
Joaquin Valley National Cemetery
in Gustine, on Thursday,
November 5, at 1:30 p.m. with
a lunch following at Andersen’s
Restaurant. In lieu of flowers the
family requests an act of kindness
for a neighbor, in honor of all of
Ron’s neighbors on Anza Way
in Livermore, and surrounding
streets, who gave him such
love and support in the last few
years.
