Charlie R. Murphy
Charlie R. Murphy died May
20, 2009. He was born Sept. 5,
1952.
Charlie will be most remembered
for his musical inspiration
to many. His creative abilities
and love of music were monumental
as was love for family and
numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by
wife Lynn, loving son of Rex
(deceased) and June Murphy.
Brothers; Jeff, Coach (deceased),
Joe (wife-Dona). Sisters Christine
Freeman (deceased), Mary
Simmons, Katey Nelson Stepson
Jake and Simon (wife -Allison);
Nephews; Jason, Anthony, Matt,
Michael and John. Nieces;
Jenny, Annie, Amy, Mindy and
Trissa. Grandchildren; Abbey,
Eden and Jubilee. Many cousins
and relatives in the area.
A Memorial Service will be
held at St. Augustine's church,
in Pleasanton, Thursday June 4,
2009 at 2:00 PM. All are welcome
to attend.

Catherine Hackenberg
Catherine Hackenberg passed
away on May 25, 2009. Catherine
was born in N.Y.C.on Septl
18, 1928 and grew up in Oakland.
In her twenties she moved
back to N.Y.C where she met
her husband, Louis Hackenberg
whom she was married to for
over 50 years. They both moved
to Livermore in 1965 with their
two daughters.
With her deep faith, she lived
a life of serving her church and
community. Catherine volunteered
her time at Cedar Grove
Church, Valley Care Thrift store,
collected food for banks and knitted
baby blankets for Shepherd’s
Gate.
Catherine loved to play dominos,
knit, and have lunch parties
with her “just for fun” ladies
group, travel with the senior
group and spend time with her
family.
She is survived by her two
daughters Margaret and Dorothea,
sister, Margaret Paulus,
nephews, nieces, sister-in-law,
brother-in-law, cousin and many
dear friends.
A memorial service will be
held on Friday, June 5 at 1 pm
at Cedar Grove Community
Church, 2021 Collage Ave with
reception to follow.
Donations can be made to

in her honor.
Virginia Helen Johnson
Virginia Helen Johnson, age
89, passed away May 14, 2009 at
Kaiser Hospital in Walnut Creek
following an extended illness.
Virginia was born December
13, 1919 in Ludington, Michigan.
She was the eldest of two
daughters born to Arthur and
Helen Michaud. Virginia married
Aubrey Johnson and together
they raised 6 boys. She saw the
world as an Air Force wife for 23
years and settled in Livermore
in 1966. For fifteen years she
worked as a receptionist at the
Livermore V.A, before retiring
in August 1981.
Virginia was preceded in death
by her husband of 39 years, Aubrey,
her sister, Frances Larsen,
brother-in-law Laverne (Red)
Larsen, granddaughter, Kathryn
Johnson and by her great granddaughter,
Tessa Dewherst.
Virginia will be greatly missed
by her 6 sons, Aubrey of Livermore,
CA, James (Victoria) of
Sumerduck, VA, Jerrold (Edith)
of Tracy, CA, Jac (Susan) of
Bethel, OH, Joseph (Patricia) of
Sparks, NV and Jeffery (Barbara)
of Tracy, CA., brother-in-law,
Warren (Alice)Abrahamson of
Ludington, MI. She is also survived
by her 14 grandchildren, 12
great grandchildren, 4 nephews,
2 nieces and many friends all of
whom were very dear to her.
Graveside service were held
on June 2, 2009 at the Pere Marquette
Cemetery in Ludington,
Michigan.

George Villar Apostol Sr.
George Villar Apostol Sr., a
loving husband, father and grandfather
born Feb. 17, 1953, in the
Philippines to the late Jovencio
and Gloria Apostol. He passed
away on Tuesday May 26, 2009.
He is survived by his wife of 34
years Helen Apostol, three sons
Jonathan, George Jr. Jesse, three
grandchildren Hayden, Diego,
Alexa and eleven brothers and
sisters.
He was known as a hardworking
man with a unique sense of
humor who loved to work on cars
for his friends and family. He will
be greatly missed by all.
Mass of the Resurrection
was celebrated May 30, at
St. Charles Borromeo Catholic
Church, Livermore, with committal
to follow at St. Michael’s
Catholic Cemetery, 3885 East
Ave. Livermore.

Gloria Villar Apostol
Gloria Villar Apostol, a longtime
resident of Livermore,
Passed away on Monday, May
25, 2009. A strong and dedicated
woman, she lived a wonderful
80 years.
Gloria was born June 6, 1928,
and raised in the Philippines,
where she met her future husband,
Jovencio Apostol Sr. Together
they had 11 children
before moving to the U.S. where
they had their last child. She is
survived by 7 daughters: Rose
Chaffee, Emma Apostol, Wilma
Apostol, Diana Apostol, Adela
Wallace, Margirie Gustafson, and
Glorietta Toledo; and 4 sons: Romeo
Apostol, Rodolfo Apostol,
Jovencio Apostol Jr., and Leo
Apostol. She is also survived by
21 grandchildren along with 10
great-grandchildren and many,
many members of her extended
family and longtime friends. She
will be joining her husband of
many years, Jovencio Apostol
Sr. along with her son, George
Apostol, who will help guide her
safely to heaven.
Gloria loved cooking for her
traditional Filipino family and
always offered a hot plate to any
visitor who came to her ever-welcoming
home. She was a mother
to many and cared deeply for her
family, she spent her life watching
her children, grandchildren,
and great-grandchildren succeed
in all aspects of life. Always a
dreamer of winning it big, Gloria
thoroughly enjoyed trips to Reno
with her family and the thrill of
the slot machines. She will forever
be remembered.
Funeral services were held at
St. Charles Borromeo Catholic
Church, Livermore. Burial followed
at St. Michael’s Catholic
Cemetery, Livermore.
