Millie Brahy
Millie Brahy died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, in Gilroy after a lengthy illness at the age of 83 years. She was a native of Chicago.
She moved to Gilroy 24 years ago from San Carlos. She was a member of the Gilroy Presbyterian Church, past president of the Gilroy Lions, longtime St. Louise Regional Hospital and Wheeler Hospital volunteer, member of the Gilroy Women In Touch, Sons of Italy, Lodge #1751 Gilroy, Madonna Circle Order of Druids #177 Gilroy and charter member of the Fabulous Flappers.
She was the mother of Ron Chaloupka and his wife Diane of Belmont, Rick Chaloupka of Oregon and Lynn Marquesen, and her husband, Dave of San Mateo; grandmother of Dave Chaloupka of Belmont, Michael Chaloupka of Placerville, Shellene Berzler of Douglasville, Ga., and Sara Curry of San Mateo. She also is survived by her late husband's children and their families.
She was the aunt of Pat Jezo of San Jose and Dennis Kucera of Illinois and dearest friend of Rosie Mammini of San Martin.
She was preceeded in death by husband Ray Brahy and sister Rose Jezo.
Visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Gilroy Presbyterian Church followed by burial at 3 p.m. at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo.
Edward W. Peterman
Edward W. Peterman died Jan. 16, 2004, at home in San Jose at the age of 59 after a lengthy illness. He was a native of Gilroy.
He was the husband of Paula Peterman of San Jose; dear father of Stephanie Peterman of Yuba City and Kelly Peterman of San Jose; brother of Randall Peterman of Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada; son of Phyllis Eustice Feemster of Saratog and the late Edward Peterman. He also is survived by aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins.
Peterman worked for the Santa Claa County deputy sheriff before retiring after 30 years. He was a founding member of the South Bay Historical Railroad Society and curator of its railroad museum. He also was a member of various other railroad organizations.
Visitation is 4-9 today, Jan. 20, at Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy. Details of his wake will be announced at the viewing.

Shirley M. Silveira
Shirley M. Silveira 73, died Jan. 16, 2004, in San Francisco. Mrs. Silveira was born in Santa Clara.
She is survived by her children and their spouses Joe and Cathy Silveira of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Terrie Silveira and Bud Dedmon of San Martin, Shelle Silveira and Linda Dean of Hollister; grandchildren Jocelynn and Jennifer Silveira of San Jose, Mackenzie Jackson of Hollister and Ethan Dedmon of San Martin; and siblings Marlene Omdahl of Salt Lake City, Utah, Donald Enos of Paicines and Al Enos of Hollister.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joe L. Silveira. Mrs. Silveira was a member of St. Catherine Church. She was a homemaker who lived in San Martin for more than 40 years. She loved the company of her children and her beloved grandchildren.

Peter F. Palma Sr.
Peter F. Palma Sr., born in San Jose on Feb. 8, 1912, died in Gilroy on Jan. 14, 2004, at the age of 91. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona.
Pete was a resident of Morgan Hill since 1959. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play baseball. He was a big fan of the Giants and Yankees. He was inducted into the Santa Clara County Softball Hall of Fame in 1982. He was part-owner of Associated Ready Mix Concrete of Morgan Hill. He was a member of the Morgan Hill Fish & Game as well as the Morgan Hill F.B.I. Club. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved deer hunting in Colorado, pheasant and duck hunting as well as an annual family fishing/camping trip to Kennedy Meadows.
Peter will be deeply missed by his family and many friends, and his loving dog Cookie.
He is survived by his children, Pete (Pat) Palma of Clearlake, Jerry (Mary) Palma of Surprise, Ariz., Joe (Patti) Palma of Santa Cruz, Jim (Lois) Palma of Anthem, Ariz., and Sharon (Al) Alciati of Morgan Hill as well as 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to the American Heart Association.
Visitation takes place Sunday, Jan. 18, 5-7 p.m., at Johnson Funeral Home. Vigil Service will follow at 7 p.m. Graveside services take place Monday, Jan. 19, at Mount Hope Cemetery
under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
William F. “Deke” Dieck
William F. “Deke” Dieck died Jan. 8, 2004, at the age of 61 while giving a flying lesson near the Hollister Airport.
Deke was born in Peoria, Ill., on Aug. 20, 1942, the oldest of six children. His passion and dreams for flying began at an early age. Eager to learn to fly, he entered the U.S. Air Force after graduating from high school. His accomplishments in the Air Force led him to a career in electronics. Several years later, Deke became a licensed general aviation pilot and later a flight instructor. He was an active member of numerous aviation associations: United States Ultralight Association in both Virginia and California, Experimental Aircraft Association, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and the Hollister Airmen’s Association.
Deke was a supporter and contributed to several different groups within the EAA, Experimenters, Homebuilders, Antiques, and was a “Young Eagle Flight Leader” introducing children (age 6 -18) to the experience of flight for the very first time. Following a long career in computer electronics with Amdahl Corp., Deke was appointed executive director of the Wings of History Museum in San Martin, leading the preservation of aviation history and providing leadership and inspiration to young children exploring flight. He touched many lives with his warmth, his energy and his passion for life.
Deke was the beloved husband of Laurie Dineen Dieck, loving father of William “Billy” Dieck and Brett Michael Dieck; caring stepfather to Lise Dineen McCarthy, Michael Dineen, and Amy Dineen; and devoted grandfather to seven grandchildren. He had five siblings: brother Michael John Dieck and sisters Marilyn Betterton, Susanne Robb, and Elizabeth “Betty” Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by his parents William and Josephine Marie Dieck and youngest sister, Leila D. Pettigrew.
A memorial service takes place, Saturday, Jan. 17, at 1 p.m., at the Lima Family Mortuary, 466 N. Winchester Blvd., Santa Clara. Deke’s final resting place will be in San Jose.

Toribio “Toby” Solorzano
Toribio “Toby” Solorzano died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, in Gilroy.
A native of Penjamo, Guanajuato, Mexico, he was 90.
Mr. Solorzano was an Army veteran. He moved to Gilroy in 1956 from the San Joaquin Valley and had been a resident ever since. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Gilroy, Veterans of Foreign War, American Legion and American GI Forum of Gilroy; past member of California Rural Legal Assistance, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Self-Help Housing Co-Op, Guadalupana Society, Gilroy Luncheon Optimist and Ultreya. He was a long-time softball player in the Gilroy recreational and San Jose Vintage Softball leagues . He also umpired for Gilroy Parks and Recreation softball games.
He was the loving husband for 57 years to Lucy Solorzano of Gilroy; father of Toby Solorzano and his wife, Barbara of Claremon, Steve Solorzano and his wife, Lilly of Gilroy, Greg Solorzano and his wife, Petra of Desert Hot Springs, Daniel Solorzano of Oxnard, Lucy Solorzano of Gilroy and Anna Solorzano of Gilroy; stepfather of Edward Limon and his wife, Blanca of Rancho Mirage, and Rosemary Putman and her husband, Jim of Indio; grandfather of 17; great-grandfather of 20; and dear brother of Rachel Torosian and her husband Ted of Fresno and the late Guadalupe Solorzano, Carmen Ramirez, Jesus “Jessie” Rodriguez, Irene Ortiz, Benjamin Solorzano, Natividad Casarez and two infant sisters.He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Services were this morning, Jan. 16, at Habing Family Funeral Home followed by Funeral Mass at St. Mary Church. Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery, Gilroy.
Sue Walsh
Morgan Hill resident Sue Walsh, 59, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, in Gilroy after years of medical problems.
She was the loving mother of Wendy McCune, grandmother of Shelly and Kim McCune, of Morgan Hill, sister of Cindy Berkowski, of Rochester, N.H., and Howard Luckhardt and his wife Pat, of Long Island, N.Y. She will be missed by many.
Funeral Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. Friday at Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy.
