Fred Fischer
Fred Fischer of Paso Robles died Oct. 19, 2002, at his home. He was 78.
Mr. Fischer was born Jan. 30, 1924, in Springfield, Ohio. At age 17, he joined the U.S. Navy and was a survivor of Pearl Harbor while serving on the USS Maryland. He was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 393 in San Jose for 27 years and in the United Association for 50 years. In 1984, after he retired, he moved to Quail Run Estates in Paso Robles where he was active on the board of trustees and in the community activities there. He was a very active member of the Elks Lodge #2364 in Paso Robles for many years also.
Fred will be remembered for his courage, love of people and love of family. He will be greatly missed by all.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Ann Fischer. He also is survived by his daughter Fran Chadwick and husband Tom of Nipomo; son Jim Fischer and his wife Joan of Morgan Hill; son Tom Fischer and his wife Becky of Gilroy; daughter Carol Wagner of Paso Robles; son Fred Fischer and his wife Nancy of Aptos; and 16 grandchildren.
Funeral Mass was Oct. 25 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Paso Robles followed by a celebration of his life at the Quail Run Estates Club House.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Hospice Partners of the Central Coast. Arrangements were under the direction of Kuehl-Nicolay Funeral Home of Paso Robles.
David Sanches
David Sanches died Oct. 21, 2002, at his daughter's home in Morgan Hill. Mr. Sanches was born 79 years ago and had been a resident of Gilroy for 65 years.
He was self-employed water systems and farm equipment installer and also a walnut farmer. His hobbies included trains, traveling, motor mechanics and working.
He was the husband of the late Virginia R. Sanches.
Mr. Sanches is survived by his daughters Yvonne M. Sanches and Deborah J. Sanches of Morgan Hill; sister Mary Dolores Sanches of Gilroy, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Forest Street in Gilroy.
The family asks that any donations be made to the Jehovah's Witnesses or the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements were under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home.
George C. Reif
George C. Reif died Oct. 21, 2002, in Gilroy after a sudden illness.
Mr. Reif was born in the Rucker District in 1909. He attended Rucker School, San Martin Elementary and graduated from Gilroy High School. Mr. Reif was a self-employed orchardist for 59 years. He was a member of the Gilroy Grange and had been a Master, he was a charter member of the American Legion, Post 669 and an Army Veteran of World War II, serving in Alaska and a member of the San Martin Presbyterian church. He was very active with folk dancing most of his life and also enjoyed fishing. He enjoyed an innovative approach to farming.
He is survived by his sister Helen Catherine Elizabeth Welspiel of Santa Clara; nephews Roland Welspiel of Santa Clara, Albert M. Reif and his wife, Lisa of Penn Valley; sister-in-law Leona Reif of San Martin; great nephews, Nick and Brad Reif of Penn Valley and many cousins; and longtime friend of Eunice Philbrick of San Carlos.
He was preceded in death by his brother Herman Reif and his nephew, John E. Reif.
Services were at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 6, at Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy. Burial followed at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park, Gilroy.
The family asks that any donations be made to either the San Martin Presbyterian Church or a favorite charity.
Dorothea Atkins
A memorial service celebrating the life of Dorothea Mae Atkins will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Crossroads Christian Center (formerly Assembly of God Church) on Wright Avenue.
Mrs. Atkins, a longtime Morgan Hill resident, teacher, and charter member of the Full Gospel Church, died at her son’s home in Oakridge, Oregon, on Sept. 15, 2002. She was 99.
Norma Rothwell
Norma Rothwell died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at the age of 89. She was born in Oakland, on Jan. 8, 1914. She had lived in San Martin since 1944.
She is survived by her children Floy (Gil) Montarbo, Ellen Kesner, Sylvia LoBue and James Rothwell; grandchildren Marlyss Furulie, Monica Lam, Derek DesJardins, Dannette Massa, Melissa (Kesner) Orlando, Nathan LoBue and Shelby Rothwell; great-grandchildren Elizabeth and Jessica Furulie, Matthew, Christian, Jonathan (J.J.), Holly and Jaime Lam.
Norma will be greatly missed by many friends and relatives.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, James, of 59 years.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 28, at 10:30 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home.
Randall D. Walker
Randall D. Walker died June 18, 2003, in San Jose. He was 39
Randall is survived by his parents Shirley Walker of Morgan Hill and William Walker of Los Gatos; brother Curtis (Beth) Walker of Morgan Hill; sister Louann Huston, both of Morgan Hill, nieces and nephews Curtis and Jennifer Walker and Jenea and Brandon Hustonl and many cousin, aunts and uncles.
A memorial service was Sunday, June 22, Johnson Funeral Home.
Carole Mensing
Carole Mensing died June 18, 2003, in San Jose. She was 59.
Carole worked 16 years designing creeks for Santa Clara Valley Water District and eight years working on the San Luis Water Project for the federal government. She loved horseback riding and was a proud member of the Santa Clara County Horsemen's Association. Besides her job and horses, she enjoyed reading and was an avid gardener.
Carole is survived by her husband, Joseph Mensing of Morgan Hill; daughters Paula Mensing, Constance Krischan and Jennelle Mensing; granchildren Melissa (Mark) Cardenes, Matthew Curtis, Joseph Lemos, Cassandra Krischan and Karina Rutherford; and a great-grandson Mark Cardenes Jr.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. today, June 24, at Johnson Funeral Home.
Interment at Oakwood Memorial Park, Santa Cruz.
Maureen Wood-Izat
Maureen Wood-Izat died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at home with her family.
She was born in Bellshill, Scotland, to Mary and John Liddle. She moved to San Jose in November 1976 with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Robbie Izat; sons Alan and David Izat and their wives Carolyn and Danielle; grandchildren Kailee and Gillian Izat; and mother Mary Liddle.
Funeral Mass will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at St. Catherine ChurchViewing will be held prior to the service from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the church.
Arrangements were under the direction of by Johnson Funeral Home.
