Barbara Jean Mammet

April 12, 1924 - October 28, 2007

Barbara Jean Mammet passed away suddenly on October 28, 2007 in Bakersfield. She and her beloved husband Bob Mammet moved to their cabin in Frazier Park to retire after devoting over 10 years to designing and building it together. More recently, they moved to Bakersfield.

A memorial Mass was scheduled at St. Phillip the Apostle Church, at 7100 Stockdale Highway, Bakersfield for Thursday, Nov. 1 at 1:30 p.m., followed by a gathering at the church. Burial is scheduled at Woodlawn Cemetery in Santa Monica, on Friday, Nov. 2, 2007 at 11:00 a.m.

Barbara Jean Zapp was born in New York April 12, 1942. Her family moved to Santa Monica where she attended parochial school and met the love of her life, Robert W. Mammet Jr., at school. They were married shortly after graduation on June 3, 1961, and have been inseparable until Barbara's untimely death.

They were partners in life and in business. They owned and operated Mammet Trucking Company in Thousand Oaks, CA, for forty years.

Surviving are daughters Jeanne Marie Hallman, and her husband Tom, of Williamsburg, Virginia, two grandsons, Patrick and Matthew; and Mary Mammet, with her husband Andy Bledsoe, of Napa Valley, and son Stephen John Mammet and his wife Beth of Sacramento, California, and grandsons Christian, Benjamin, and James and granddaughter Emily. In addition, Barbara is survived by stepbrother, Vincent Laino, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico.

Those who knew her found Barbara loving and giving with a perpetual smile on her face. She had many friends from Thousand Oaks, Santa Monica, Frazier Park and Bakersfield, and all who came in contact with her were left with a warm and lasting impression. She will not be forgotten.

William Edward Winney Jr.

October 1, 1925 – June 2, 2007

William Edward Winney, Jr., who lived in Frazier Park for over 30 years, died June 2, 2007 in Burbank, California. He was born October 1, 1925 in Los Angeles and attended school in the metropolitan area of Central Los Angeles. In December 1943, at 18 years old, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He served his country until April 1946 and was discharged with honors at the rank of sergeant, specializing in radio and control tower operations.

Bill enrolled at the University of Southern California and graduated with a degree in business administration. He worked for Sears Roebuck stores in the Los Angeles area.

He married Monta in September, 1965 and they relocated to Frazier Park in 1968. Bill transferred to the Sears store in Bakersfield and eventually headed the Sears catalog center in Frazier Park until it was closed, at which time he decided to retire.

Monta passed in July of 1994, but Bill remained in Frazier Park until poor health required him to relocate to a long term care facility.

Bill was a fine gentleman and he will be missed by all his friends.

Dorothy V. Erwin

October 14, 1927 - June 8, 2007

Dorothy Erwin, beloved wife and mother, passed away at her home in Fort Tejon after a very long illness.

Dorothy was born in  West Virginia and moved to San Fernando, California. She moved to Fort Tejon with her husband, Fred in 1980, where they built their home. She lived there until her death.

She is survived by her husband, Fred, her son Steve, sisters Reva Mowes of Fontana and Mary Anderson from  West Virginia.

Services were held in Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier on Saturday, June 16, 2007.

Agnes C. Thomsen

October 25, 1914 - July 10, 2007

My mother Agnes C. Thomsen, died Tuesday, after a stroke in June.

There was a private family gathering at the Ventura Pier Sunday July 15, 2007.

She was preceded in death by my father, Hans Thomsen, in October 2001.

They were married over 60 years and both were of Danish heritage.

Agnes is survived by her three children, Mary Attwell of Lebec and Frazier Park, Jane Skow from Georgia and Frank Thomsen of Newbury Park. She is also survived by her Grandson, Jared Arthur Thomsen Attwell of the Mountain Communities, plus five other grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

It was a blessing that Our Lord took my mother to Heaven to be with my son, Jordan, who died at birth on Dec. 2, 1983.

Renee Willoughby

1941-2007

Renee lived in Pine Mountain for 14 years where she was an accountant. She was born in France in 1941 and died January 9, 2007. Renee is survived by her loving husband James Willoughby, her son Michael Willoughby and her daughter Patricia Pickett.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 19 at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, 7115 Lakewood Drive, Lake of the Woods.

Florence I. George

December 27, 1925 - December 22, 2006

Florence I. George, once the VFW Auxiliary President in Frazier Park, passed away on December 22. She was a gifted pianist and organist who gave 15 years of dedicated service to El Camino Pines Lutheran Church in Lake of the Woods.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 5:00 p.m. in Castaic, at Sloan Canyon Free Will Baptist Church [28355 Sloan Canyon Road, Castaic, CA 91384].

Florence was born in Tuolumne, California to Gilmore and Violet Hallen. She graduated from Holy Rosary Academy in Woodland, CA in 1942. Florence was working as a switchboard operator when she met and fell in love with Robert Blivin at a dance at the Tracy Defense Depot. They lived in Jackson, Michigan and then relocated to Lodi, California and raised five children: Mike, Sharon, John, Robby and Melanie.

Bob and Florence enjoyed fishing, motorcycle rides in the country and were both active in Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). Florence served as VFW President in both Lodi and Frazier Park.

She was always exploring avenues of artistic expression, including oil painting, ceramics, interior decorating, dried floral arrangements, gardening and cooking.

In 1974, Florence married her good friend, Reed George. Together, they shared a passion for bowling, gardening and simple pleasures like reading the morning paper over a cup of coffee.

She will be remembered for her feisty spirit, her outspoken nature, great sense of humor, delicious pancakes and mostly her generosity, love and devotion to her children, family and friends.

Florence is survived by her four children; Mike Blivin, Sharon Jewett, John Blivin and Melanie Myers; four sisters, Wilma Minnich, Bunny Coleman, Betty Litchfield and Earleen Gaskill; six grandchildren, Aimee Maschmeyer, Krista Maurer, Josh Melling, Rachel Blivin, Shadoe Jewett and Lucy Myers; and by Chris Rizzi who was like a daughter to her. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Florence is preceded in death by her son, Robby Blivin, her first husband, Bob Blivin, her second husband, Reed George and her sister, Millie Isbel.

In lieu of flowers, remembrance can be made to Vitas (Hospice) c/o Sharon Jewett, 28355 Sloan Canyon Road, Castaic, CA 91384.
