Donald D. Haapanen
Donald D. Haapanen, 82, of Pioneer, died on Monday, Dec. 13, 2004 at Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson.
Mr. Haapanen was born on June 26, 1922 in Michigan.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 19 at 2 p.m. at McCrory’s Funeral Home in Pine Grove.
Private interment will be held at a later date at Amador Memorial Cemetery
in Pioneer.
Arrangements are being entrusted to McCrory’s Funeral Home in Pine Grove.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Lester D. Garibaldi
Dec. 19, 1916 - Dec. 4, 2004
Lester D. Garibaldi, 88, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004 at Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson.
Mr. Garibaldi was born on Dec. 19, 1916 in Oakland and trained as a professional photographer.
Lester came to Jackson in 1939, purchasing an existing photographer’s business and operated his business until 1942 when he was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He trained in the Army’s Motion Picture Division with former governor and U.S. President Ronald Reagan as commanding officer.
In 1942, he was shipped to the South Pacific and flew a number of combat missions as a cameraman and waist gunner.
Upon returning stateside, he met and married his wife, Leah Meyers, who was a Registered Nurse.
The couple returned to Jackson in 1945 to build their lives together.
Leah worked as the head surgical nurse at the Amador County Hospital while Lester established himself as the area’s dominant photographer, specializing in portraits, class photos and wedding photography.
In the early 1960s, Leah joined Lester in their Kodak and Hallmark gift store.
Their business, Garibaldi Studio, operated continuously on Main Street in Jackson from 1939 until 2002.
During his life in Jackson, Lester served as a city councilman for Jackson and was a longtime member of the Rotary Club.
He is survived by his daughter, Marla Loew of Modesto; son, Wayne Garibaldi of Jackson; and three adult grandchildren, Adam Loew, Jeremy Loew and Trevor Loew.
He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 50 years, Leah Garibaldi in 1996.
Semi-private memorial services are planned at Sunset View Cemetery
in Martell on Wednesday, Dec. 22 at 11 a.m.
Lester’s friends, wishing to say good-bye, are welcome to attend.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Daneri Mortuary in Jackson.
William "Bill" Edward Bair
William "Bill" Edward Bair, 78, died on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004 in Jackson.
Mr. Bair was born on July 10, 1925 in New Philadelphia, Ohio.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 9, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sutter Creek.
Interment will be at the Garden of Valor at Sunset View Cemetery
in Martell.
Arrangements are being handled by Daneri Mortuary in Jackson.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National World War II Memorial Contribution Fund, 2300 Clarendon Blvd., Arlington, Va. 22201.
