Dr. Albert Kaplan
Dr. Albert Kaplan, father of Coastside resident Dr. David Kaplan, died peacefully June 7 in Boca Raton, Fla. He was 88.
Dr. Kaplan was born Oct. 11, 1915 in Windsor, Ontario, where he grew up. He attended dental school at the University of Detroit, the city in which he practiced dentistry until 1982.
Dr. Kaplan is preceded in death by his first wife, Leah. He is survived by his wife, Doris, his daughter and her husband Dianna and Richard Fine, his son, David Kaplan of the Coastside, grandchildren Marci and Jason Fine and Anthony Allen Kaplan-Applebaum, and many nieces, nephews, and grand- and great-grand nieces and nephews.
Services were held June 9 in Boynton Beach, Fla.

Frederick N. "Ted" French, Jr.
Longtime Moss Beach resident Frederick N. "Ted" French, Jr. died May 26 at his home, surrounded by his family, at age 54 and due to lung cancer.
Mr. French was born in Bridgeport, Conn., and attended Franklin Pierce College in New Hampshire, where he majored in liberal arts. He came to California in the mid-1970s, and had lived in Moss Beach since 1988.
For more than 25 years, Mr. French worked with Yellow Cab Coop, as a dispatcher.
Known to most as "Ted," Mr. French was "an exuberant and extremely generous man, who will be greatly missed," said his ex-wife, Nancy Haas.
"He loved to bake, fry, roast, smoke and barbecue just about anything edible," she continued.
In addition, Mr. French loved to hunt and fish, and loved photography and working on vintage trucks.
Mr. French is preceded in death by his parents, Susan and Frederick French. He is survived by his daughters, Nicole and Stephanie, his ex-wife Nancy Haas, and his sister, Charity Armstrong, of Chicago.
A celebration of Mr. French's life will be held at his home from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, June 26, followed by a private scattering of ashes. For information and directions, call (707) 658-3508.

Mary T. Tripp
Mary T. Tripp, n/e Fitzgerald, mother of Coastside real estate agent Marilyn Haupert, died June 30 at Mills-Peninsula Hospital following an illness.
Haupert gave her mother a resounding tribute.
"My mom was one of the most wonderful people," she said. "She never hurt anybody. She was a good person. She went to Mass every day.
"She and my dad were both good, honest people, loving and caring. (And) she had a great sense of humor. She was a great lady."
Mrs. Tripp was born and raised in San Francisco, where she met her future husband, Roy Tripp. They married in 1940 and soon moved to Half Moon Bay.
Their marriage would continue for 64 years, during which time they raised five daughters.
They lived here for a few years and then, due to transfers for Mr. Tripp in his job with PG&E, moved to the Peninsula for some years to live in a variety of cities including Belmont, Palo Alto, Redwood City and San Mateo.
They returned to Half Moon Bay in 1965, and remained until relocating to the Millbrae area in January of this year.
Mrs. Tripp had worked at Fairchild Semiconductor and then segued into the medical field on the Coastside, working in reception and with the PBX for Dr. George Goldthorpe at the former St. Catherine Hospital on Half Moon Bay, now Seton Medical Center Coastside.
She also worked for some years as a secretary for her daughter, at Century 21 Sunset Realty on the Coastside.
Much of her time was devoted to being a homemaker. Two of her daughters had cystic fibrosis, and family was always a top priority for Mrs. Tripp, said Haupert.
"She did for other people," Haupert said. "Family was always No. 1."
A member of the Legion of Mary and of Seton Auxiliary, Mrs. Tripp worked tirelessly to support research to find a cure for cystic fibrosis, and originated the Cystic Fibrosis Tag Program. Starting when her children were little, she and the girls cut up old Christmas cards, repackaged them as "To" and "From" tags for gifts, and sold them, with all proceeds going to the Cystic Fibrosis Research Inc. in Mountain View.
In time, the tags grew more sophisticated, and Mrs. Tripp's effort became a major program.
"She took so much time in making (the tags,)" Haupert said. "They had to look just right."
Mrs. Tripp and her husband also enjoyed travel. She made many journeys to her parents' homeland of Ireland, and they also visited Europe, Alaska and Mexico. When their girls were small, a favorite summertime vacation destination was Yosemite.
Mrs. Tripp is preceded in death by her parents, John and Nora Fitzgerald, and by her daughters Phyllis Tripp and Maureen Sazio.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Roy Tripp of Millbrae, her daughters Marilyn Haupert of Half Moon Bay, Dolores Zaro of Petaluma and Colleen Grzan of Morgan Hill, 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 9, and a Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m., both at Nauman Lincoln Roos Mortuary at 322 Maple Ave., So. San Francisco.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 10, at the Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary at 1040 Alameda de las Pulgas in Belmont. Father Dan Carter, who served at Our Lady of the Pillar Catholic Church in Half Moon Bay for several years during the 1990s, will officiate at the Mass. It will be followed by committal at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Francisco C. Costa
Francisco C. Costa, a 35-year Coastside resident originally from the Azores in Portugal, died July 20 at his Half Moon Bay home, surrounded by his family, after a 13-month battle with cancer. He was 82.
Mr. Costa was born in 1922 in the village of Santa Barbara, in Terceira, the Azores, Portugal. In 1969, with his wife and their seven children, he came to the United States. The family lived for a short time near Hanford, and then came to Half Moon Bay.
Mr. Costa worked for Nurserymen's Exchange for 22 years until his retirement. He greatly enjoyed traveling, and with his wife, visited many places including Brazil, Israel, France, Mexico, Switzerland, Portugal, Hawaii, Florida and Canada. They also made many trips back to Mr. Costa's hometown.
Mr. Costa was a member of the I.D.E.S. Society and of the Portuguese Cultural Center. He loved to pass the time in his garden, growing fruits and vegetables, his family said, and he was also a friendly and outgoing man.
"He loved to talk to everyone," said members of his family. "He was a happy man."
Mr. Costa is survived by his wife of 57 years, Idalina Costa of Half Moon Bay, his sons Frank Costa and George Costa, both of Half Moon Bay, and Joe Costa of Union City, his daughters Janette Melo of Half Moon Bay, Zilda Alamo of Modesto, and Eva Avila and Idalina Rocha, both of Santa Clara.
He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and by a sister, Maria Lourdes Costa of Terceira, the Azores, Portugal.
A Rosary was said for Mr. Costa on July 23 and funeral services were held on July 24, both at Our Lady of the Pillar Catholic Church in Half Moon Bay. They were followed by burial at the Skylawn Memorial Park mausoleum.
