Roy Eugene Bechhold

Roy Eugene Bechhold passed away Tuesday, April 18th, 2006 at his home, after a short, but hard fought battle with cancer. He was born October 29, 1927 in Goodman, MO to Opal and Clarence Bechhold at his grandparent's farm.
At the age of 7 his family moved to Washington, then Orland and finally settling in Chico. He then finished his education, graduating from Chico High School. He joined the Army with the 11th airborne, became a paratrooper, and was stationed in Japan. He returned home to Chico after being honorably discharged.
He then married his high school sweetheart, Juanita Watson. They began their marriage living in Almanor and Bucks Lake. Roy then began his career with PG & E, retiring after 41 years. They had many fun times during these years. Roy loved taking his family to the ocean and on camping trips to the mountains. He was so proud of them.
Roy was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed Shelter Cove, Alaska, and many trips to Montana and Wyoming. Roy and Juanita loved going on many RV trips with family and friends. Roy was a member of the Chico Elks 423 and American Legion.
He was known for his willingness to help others. Roy was responsible for the start of Oakridge Cabinets and BC Brown Excavating Paving.
Roy's passion was his and Juanita's cabin at Eagle Lake. He built it with Juanita and his son Scott from the ground up. Roy spent his retirement fishing, and having many great times.
Roy's joys in life were his children Jerry, Kathy, and Scott. He was so proud of them and all of their accomplishments. But Roy's greatest joys in life were his grandchildren; Brandon, JR, Ali, Ryan, and Kylie. His grandchildren were a great source of love and laughter. All the kids and every one of their friends could not wait to go see "Grandpa Roy."
Roy is survived by his wife Juanita of 57 years, son Jerry of Petaluma, daughter Kathy of Chico, son Scott and daughter in-law Jodi of Durham, sister Frances Odell of Scottsboro, Alabama, nephew Randy Odell of Kalispell, Montana, grandson Brandon Brown and granddaughter in-law Michelle of Chico, grandsons Ryan and Jay of Durham, granddaughters Ali of Chico and Kylie of Durham, great granddaughters Bailey, Emma and Jacqueline of Chico, and his beloved dog Burton. He is also survived by his brothers- and sisters-in-law Fritz and Alva Watson, Fran and Brooks Houghton, Bill and Hazel Thompson, and Betty Newton Liden.
We love you Grandpa. You will always be in our hearts. Never will a day pass that we will not miss your quick wit and contagious smile. With all our love, Brandon, Ryan, JR, Ali and Kylie.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00a.m. Monday April 24th at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home, and burial will follow at Glen Oaks Memorial Park. A visitation will take place Sunday from 5 to 7p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Cancer Society or Enloe Hospice in care of the funeral home.
Paul M. Marsh

A long time resident of Salinas, Calif. Paul passed away peacefully after a long illness in Chico, Calif., at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife Theresa, also formerly of Salinas, Alameda, and Hawaii.
Paul had a long and wonderful life with family and many friends. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed boating, fishing, and travel. Paul farmed many years in Salinas Valley and Santa Maria, and was involved in the frozen and canned goods industry.
Paul is survived by his son, Gary Marsh, and daughter Claudia Kelley of Pinole, Calif.; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A wake and celebration of Paul’s life will be held at the family home. Donations may be made in Paul’s memory to the charity of your choice in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.

Paul E. Hodel age 71, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2006 in Chico, CA. Paul was born June 19, 1934 in Hillsboro, Kansas to Ted and Martha Hodel. Paul loved Jesus and attended Calvary Chapel Church of Chico. Paul was in the Korean Conflict for 2 years and was stationed at Eielson Air Force Base, Anchorage, Alaska. He joined IBM Corp. in San Jose, CA in 1956 and worked there until he retirement in 1991. His retirement included gardening, woodworking. Paul was very creative and a gifted craftsman. He could repair anything. He loved being out doors and especially loved to fish. He and his wife celebrated their 49th Wedding Anniversary Feb. 2006. He is survived by his wife Pat Hodel, 2 sons Matthew and Chris Hodel, daughter Lorraine Hodel, three sisters Alice Jost, Norma Klemm and Evalina Klassen, brother LaVerne Hodel, 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, plus a large extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews. The family is especially grateful to blood platelet donors. Their generosity assisted him in his battle against Leukemia. A service will be on Thursday, April 27, 2006 at 11:00a.m. at the Old Magalia Historical Church in Magalia. Memorial contributions to be made to Enloe Community Center or to Leukemia Society in care of Newton-Bracewell Cremation & Funeral Service of Magalia who is handling the arrangements.
Frances Emalene Davis

Frances Emalene Davis went to be with her Lord on April 23, 2006 in Chico, California. She was born on June 16, 1918 in Covelo, California, the youngest of seven children, to Bertha Lorena Haydon and Charles Melvin Grist. She was a 4th-generation Californian.
Following her graduation from high school, Frances lived in San Francisco and Sacramento (where she worked at McClellan Air Force Base during WWII), Hayfork, and Stockton (since 1966).
Frances enjoyed music, playing the alto horn in her high school band, playing the piano “by ear”, and singing in her church choirs. Her favorite hobbies were sewing and flower gardening. She loved all animals, with a special fondness for cats. She was a devoted mother and a faithful friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, all six of her siblings, Earl, Alvin, Raymond, Villa, George, and Vernon, her beloved husband George Grayson Davis, their stillborn daughter, Patricia Eileen Davis, and their infant great-grandson, Tyler Austin Smith.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Elaine Smith (Wes Roop) of Chico, and her son, James Walter Davis (Sharon) of Seattle, WA, grandsons Guy, Michael, and Lee Samuelson, Hayden Smith and Garrett (Audrey) Davis, granddaughter Elizabeth Davis Smith, great-granddaughter Brooke Lynn Davis and numerous nieces and nephews.
A home-going celebration will be at the Quail Lakes Baptist Church Chapel, Stockton, California, on Monday, May 1, 2006 at 1 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made to Hayfork Community Church, P. O. Box 217, Hayfork, CA 96041, where Frances sent a monthly contribution for many years.
Willie Augustine Mitchell

Willie Augustine (Rhodes) Mitchell was born September 4, 1921 in Grand Saline, Texas, the third of six sisters. She was proud to be a fifth generation Texan. Her mother, Ethel Lucille Cates, was the daughter of Winfred Valentine “Vollie” Cates and his wife, Minnie Beatrice (Morris) Cates. Her father, Bert Bunyon Rhodes was the son of Thomas Jefferson and Mary Ella (McGuire) Rhodes.
Augustine married her first husband, Benoit “Benny” James, just as the Dust Bowl era struck the south. Along with thousands of other southerners, the Rhodes family traveled to California in the 1930’s to find work. She had two sons, Ancil and Robert (Bob), and was divorced. At the end of WWII she met Voaid Mitchell, who had just returned from Army Air Corps duty in Burma. Two years later, Willie and Voaid were married and Voaid adopted Ancil and Bob. Three years later, Willie gave birth to a daughter, Linda, completing their family
In the mid fifties, Voaid was hired by a major construction company to supervise the construction of jet engine test buildings for the Air Force and Navy. The family lived in many areas of California and in Colorado, Florida, Georgia and Virginia finally settling in Orland, California for a time. After retirement, they kept homes in both Orland and Bozeman, MT.
Voaid passed away in 1992. Willie enjoyed traveling with her two youngest sisters, Lillian and Betty. She divided her time between two homes she shared with her youngest sister, Betty, in Bozeman, Montana and Chico, California. While in Montana she volunteered at the Senior Center and with Eagle Mount’s programs for people with disabilities. She loved to dance, read, work crossword puzzles and attend family reunions. Her family remembers her as fun loving, adventurous, and full of joy and mischief.
Willie could always find humor, even in the most trying situations. When she received a diagnosis of untreatable colon cancer, she faced it with grace, dignity and courage, declaring it her “latest adventure into the beyond!” She left this earth on April 28, 2006.
She was looking forward to a joyful reunion in heaven with her mother, Lucille; her husband, Voaid; her son, Bob; sisters Fay Barbee, Minnie Rhodes, Bonnie Morlock and Lillian Thompson; and sisters-in-law, Donna Mitchell and Millie Mitchell.
Remembering and missing her are son, Ancil and his wife Sue, Berry Creek, CA; daughter Linda and her husband Gary Griffith, Bozeman, MT; sister, Betty Summers, Chico, CA; uncle, Bruce Cates, Baja, Mexico; brother-in-law, Leo Mitchell, Canyon Lake, CA; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
There will be a celebration of her life in Chico, CA, May 6, 2 pm, at Newton-Bracewell Funeral Home. A second celebration for the scattering of her ashes is planned to be held in Monarch, MT in June. "Pete" Donald R. Peterson

DONALD R. PETERSON
Donald R. “Pete” Peterson died peacefully at home on Saturday, April 29, 2006 at the age of 70 in Reno, NV. His loving wife and three children were present. He was born in Madison, NE on May 25, 1935 and is the son of Donald and Matie (Johnson) Peterson. He was raised in Omaha, NE and spent many happy times with his Aunt Mabel Mueller in Chicago, IL.
He served in the U.S. Army and spent 22 years serving his county. He served time on the DMZ in Korea, two tours in Viet Nam, and was also stationed in Ft Knox, KY; near Frankfurt, Germany; and St Paul, MN. After his honorable discharge, he retired in Ft Hood, TX with many medals and certificates. He lived in Copperas Cove, TX until he moved to Petaluma, CA in 1983. After his marriage to Merry Kaufman, nee Maddrill, in 1989, they traveled for seven years around the U.S. in their motorhome and then bought a house in Reno, NV.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Merry, his two sons: Robert (Kathleen) and Donn (Nicole) and his daughter, Susan (Tim) Hilley, and four grandchildren.
Newton Bracewell Funeral Home in Chico, CA is handling funeral arrangements. He will be buried in his wife’s family plot at Chico Memorial Cemetery
in Chico, CA, with full military honors on May 4th at 11:00. On May 13th there will be a Celebration of Life for “Pete” at 1:00 at the family home on Stonewall in Reno, NV.
