Mary Headrick was born to Arthur Orem White and Grace Lavon Lindsey White, November 29, 1918. Five years later her mother left the family for unknown reasons, and Mary learned survival skills at an early age in difficult depression times. She graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in Los Angeles, Calif. in 1936 and later married Joseph Frank Mays Jr. Mary was a proficient ice skater and was invited to join the Ice Capades. She decided not to join the traveling Ice Company to care for her two children, Linda Kay Mays and Thomas Arthur Mays. During these years, her beauty led her into a modeling career and she was crowned Mrs. Allied Van Lines. Her image also was published in various newspapers several different businesses. She also was a member of the Audrey Mieir Harmony Chorus. This Christian choir sang in major auditoriums and churches in the western United States. Divorce left her supporting her children, and she worked as a secretary for several years. On March 1962, Mary married Richard Throop Headrick a child movie star, evangelist, WWII B-17 Pilot and engineer. Mary and “Dick" traveled the world performing in speaking engagements, selling Dick's Book “A Mighty Fortress" and promoting Dick's many inventions. Mary did the bookwork, Dick did the speaking and autographing of books. In later years, Richard and Mary moved to Chico from their longtime residence in The Groves Mobile home park in Irvine, California. They resided in Prestige Assisted Living in Chico until Dick died in 2001. Mary later moved to Roses and Ivy Elder Care Home in Chico where she lived happily until her death, November 5, 2004.
Her three children, Linda Kay Halverson and Thomas Arthur Mays both reside in Chico, California, and Stephen Paul Headrick, lives in Santa Ana, California. Mary also has eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mary was known for her beautiful smile and gentle attitude. She will be missed.
Edgar Mungen Glenn

Edgar M. Glenn
A funeral service will be held for Edgar M. Glenn on Wednesday, November 10, 2004, at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine Anglican Church in Chico.
Ed was born on September 16, 1918, in Pennsylvania. He received his B.A. from Hamilton College and Ph.D. from Stanford University and taught English at Northwestern and at California State University at Chico for more than 40 years. After his retirement in 1983 he spent most of his time doing research and writing on classical subjects. In recent years, he was an active member of the local chapter of the Survivors of Pearl Harbor.
His 61-year marriage to Mildred Erskine of Marin County, California, was one of the great joys of his life. He treasured the company and support of his family and friends, and the congregation of St. Augustine’s, of which he was an early member.
He is survived by his wife, Milly, his daughters Pam and Penelope, and his son William, who wish him peace and Godspeed.
Gerald "Jerry" Austin Stoner

Gerald Austin Stoner
A memorial service will be held for Gerald “Jerry” Austin Stoner, 43, of Chico, on Saturday, November 13, 2004, 11:00 a.m. at Grace Community Church.
Jerry passed away, after a courageous three-year battle with lung cancer, on Sunday, November 7, 2004 at his residence. He was born on February 13, 1961 in Fresno, California to Richard and Patricia Stoner.
Jerry grew up in Santa Rosa, moving to Chico in 1979. He attended Butte College and received an AA, graduating with honors on the Dean’s list.
On June 4, 1989 he married Wendee Gehrke. For fifteen years Jerry worked for Mervyns, Copeland Sports, and Circuit City in retail management, and then began a ten-year career in real estate appraisal.
He is survived by his wife, Wendee Stoner; two daughters, Savannah and Sapphire Stoner; father and step-mother, Richard C. and Alice Stoner all of Chico; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Stephen and Alice Stoner of El Dorado Hills, CA, Jeffrey and Marian Stoner of Cameron Park, CA and Richard M. and Paula Stoner of Hidden Valley, CA; uncle and aunt, Donald and Betty Scheppers of Harbor City, CA; six nieces and five nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Community Church or Enloe Hospice in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home, who are handling the arrangements.
James "Jim" Lester Reid

Services to celebrate the life of James Lester Reid were held in Alturas on November 10, 2004, with the Reverend Dr. Ben Zandstra of the Federated Community Church officiating. Burial was in the Alturas Cemetery. A potluck luncheon for family and friends was held in honor of Jim and his wife Hazel, who passed away nine days before him, at the Arrowhead Golf Course clubhouse after the services.
Jim was born on May 15, 1914, on Parker Creek in Alturas, California, to David Graham Reid and Mary Porter Pepperdine Reid. His father was from Belfast, Ireland, and his mother was a member of one of the three settling pioneer families, the Parkers, the Porters, and the Dorris’, who played significant roles in the early growth and strength of the Modoc County area of California. Jim was a great-grandchild of all three families through his maternal grandparents.
Jim had a great time during his childhood on Parker Creek, going to school in a one-room school house and sharing family activities with his parents, brother Doug and sister Eleanor, and cousins who lived nearby; and he loved reminiscing those days. After graduating from Modoc High School he spent some time working with his father in construction in the area before going to Chico State College.
At Chico State, Jim met Hazel Marshall from Yuba City at the Welcome Dance at the beginning of the year; and that was the beginning of a love story that spanned the next 69 years, the rest of their lives. The depression brought his college career to an end after one semester; but nothing could change what had happened between him and Hazel when they met. They were engaged the summer after they met and married in Yuba City two years later. After the wedding, they settled in Alturas, and the family grew to include daughter Dorothy and son David during the next couple of years.
With the beginning of World War II the family moved to Oakland where Jim worked in the shipyards as foreman of crews rebuilding and repairing U.S. ships from the War. After the War, they returned to Alturas, where he established his own construction company. For the next forty plus years, he built and remodeled homes, businesses, and other buildings in the Modoc County area. He was also affiliated with and active in many community groups including Alturas Rotary Club (where he was the recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow award), the Alturas Volunteer Fire Department, the Elks Club, the Modoc Shrine Club, the Modoc Sheriff’s Posse, the Alturas Men’s Bowling League, and the Arrowhead Golf Men’s Club. He organized a volunteer group of men who built the present clubroom at the golf course, and it was dedicated to him at the end of the project. In the 1950’s he also served a four-year term as Mayor of Alturas. Jim was also an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, and camping with family and friends in the Warners and other areas of Modoc.
Hazel and his family were his greatest loves and he treasured his many friends. He was a modest man who was amazed by the many people who saw him as a source of leadership and counsel. He took great joy in working to help others and in making Alturas a wonderful place to live; and his contributions were many times done in an anonymous capacity.
In 1994, Jim and Hazel moved to Chico to live near their daughter Dorothy. They enjoyed their years living in Sycamore Glen Retirement Home there and made many new friends. Jim was especially happy when his brother Doug and his wife Betty joined them in Chico about six months after they moved there. The Reid boys were once again living their lives close to one another as they had back on that Parker Creek ranch in their childhoods. Jim was also well known for the huge vegetable gardens he raised in the summers at The Glen.
Jim is survived by his daughter Dorothy of Chico; his sisters-in-law Maxine Marshall of Alturas and Betty Reid of Chico; one cousin of his generation of Porters, Oakley Porter of Parumph, Nevada and Sun River, Oregon; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Hazel; his son David; his parents; his brothers Doug Reid and Jake Pepperdine; his sisters Eleanor Reid Hinshaw, Mary Porter Pepperdine Enoksen, and Cordelia Pepperdine Weber; and his brothers-in-law “Slim” Enoksen, Pete Weber, Cleo Hinshaw, and W. Earl “Doc” Marshall.
For those who wish to make memorial donations to Jim or Hazel, their daughter has named the Blue Lake Youth Camp in care of the Federated Community Church, 307 East First Street, Alturas, CA 96101 as recipient.
Elinor Ventioner

A graveside service will be held for Elinor Christine Ventioner, 87, of Chico, on Wednesday, November 17, 2004, 10:00 a.m. at Gridley-Biggs Cemetery
in Gridley. A visitation service will be Tuesday, November 16, 2004 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home. Elinor passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2004 at a care facility in Chico, with her family at her side. She was born on March 31, 1917 in Hebron, Nebraska to John and Enodia Reime. She married Jay “JD” Ventioner on December 22, 1935, they owned and operated the Richvale store in the late 1940’s. Elinor worked as a bookkeeper, she enjoyed crafts, and traveling, loved spending time with her family and friends. She played the violin; sometimes for church services and also with various orchestras. Elinor was a faithful member of the Richvale Evangelical Free Church. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jeannette and Phil Peterson; sister and brother-in-law, Kathreen and Paul Prout; eight grandchildren, Ken and Debbie Reed, Kris Koch, Kevin Reed, Mike and Lisa Peterson, Scott Peterson, and Elizabeth Peterson; five great grandchildren, Dale and Cassie Reed, Wesley and Samantha Koch, Jakob Peterson; and many nieces and nephews. Elinor was preceded in death by her husband, JD Ventioner in 1981 and by her daughter, Jan Reed in 1989. Memorial contributions may be made to Richvale Evangelical Free Church or Butte Home Health Hospice in care of the funeral home.
Molly Louise Terrano

A memorial service will be held for Molly Terrano, 50, on Wednesday, November 24, 2004, at 3:30, at the Spiritual Enrichment Center. She died on November 18, 2004 at home surrounded by family and her many friends.
Molly was born on May 3, 1954 in San Diego to Carroll and Elizabeth Wirt.
She moved to Chico in 1978.
Molly was a registered nurse and a 22-year employee of Enloe Hospital. She loved watching her kids play sports, photography, reading and her involvement with the Spiritual Enrichment Center.
Molly was involved in many community events, service organizations and received a community service award and recently became a licensed minister. She was a trauma prevention coordinator, a board member of Think First and involved in Leadership Chico and Every 15 Minutes.
She is survived by her partner Jeff Mann; children Jacklyn Terrano, Dillon Terrano, and Ben Terrano; their father Paul Terrano; mother, Betty Wirt; sister and Brother-in-law, Judy and Dick Barr; brother and sister-in-law, John and Sherry Wirt; goddaughter, Tanika Wagner and 5 nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Terrano Medical Fund for Molly's children's college education in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.
