Danny O’Brien passed away June 23, 2004 in Chico, California. Danny was born to Steven and Barbara O’Brien in Chico, on October 25, 1984. He attended Durham Elementary and Intermediate School, Chico High School, Butte College and Lane Community College in Oregon.
Danny was involved in sports throughout his young life. He was a talented athlete and played football, basketball, and baseball in high school. He played for American Legion Baseball as a 3rd baseman. He was an avid snowboarder. This was one of his favorite activities. Danny was also a gifted artist, who was just beginning to realize his talent.
He worked for Ginno’s Appliances for one year, and then began college. He was an intelligent, very energetic, social young man who had a beautiful smile. He was best known to his closest friends as the friend with the golden heart. He was devoted to his life long friends, Brian and Trevor, who are both disabled.
Danny is survived by his loving parents Steven and Barbara O’Brien and his loving sister Jennifer, all of Chico. Other survivors include his grandparents, Virginia O’Brien, Joe Vasquez, and Lupe and Ray Friedli, his three uncles, two aunts and ten cousins. Danny was loved by many. He leaves behind many people who loved him very much and his ever loving dog Roscoe.
A Catholic vigil will take place at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Chico, Thursday, July 1, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. A reception will follow. This is a time for his friends to come and share memories of Danny. A Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday July 2, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church
Donations can be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association or The Christopher Reeves Paralysis Foundation, or to the Danny O’Brien memorial fund in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home, which is handling the arrangements.

Semsa Cerni
September 07, 1946 - June 25, 2004

SEMSA CERNI
Semsa Cerni, 58, of Chico died June 25, 2004. She was born in Modrica in Bosnia and Herzegovina on September 7, 1946, to Sukrija and Hiba Krvavac.
On November 11, 1974, she married Slobodon Cerni. Semsa was warm, fun, loving and courageous. She loved to dance, sing, cook and read. In 1992, Semsa, her husband, and their two daughters fled to Germany where they lived for six years. In 1998 they emigrated to Chico. Semsa made many new friends while staying in touch with family and friends in Bosnia and around the world. She will continue to live in the hearts of the people she touched and loved.
Semsa will be missed by her husband Slobodan of 30 years; daughters, Sanja of Chico and Snjezana of Germany; and grandson Noah of Furth , Germany.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Jimmie Milliron
February 17, 1937 - June 28, 2004

JIMMIE D. MILLIRON –
Jimmie D. Milliron went to meet his Lord June 28, 2004 at his home in Chico following a long illness. He served in the U.S. Army and was a retired meat cutter who worked in Chico, Los Angeles and Bremerton, WA. Jim and his wife, Betti, retired to Chico in 1998. The loves of his life were his family and fishing. Jim was born February 17, 1937 in Marion, Ohio. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Betti of Chico; children, Ky, Kenneth and Vincent Milliron all of Phoenix, Az, Jimmy Dale Jr. of Bremerton, WA, Connie Evans of Bothell, WA, Kelli Cody of Matthews, NC; a sister, Virginia Roland of Bucyrus, OH and 10 grandchildren. Memorial services will be held 3:00p.m. Friday at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Enloe Medical Foundation Respiratory Pulmonary Fund, 1448 Esplanade, Chico, CA 95926 or in care of the funeral home.

William Laughlin

Memorial services will be held for Bill Laughlin, 86, of Palermo 1:p.m. Saturday July 31st at the V.F.W. Post Hall in Oroville. He died July 1, 2004 at his home. He is survived by his wife, Doris, of Palermo; 4 children; 9 grandchildren and 13 great. Inurnment will take place at Ft Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego. Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Andrew MacLane

Andrew Brian MacLane
Andrew Brian MacLane died of cardiac arrest at Enloe Hospital in Chico on July 7, 2004. He was 51 years old. Those who loved him will forever remember Andy’s twinkling eyes, laughter and sense of humor. He touched each one of us in his all too brief time in this world. Andy was born in Oakland, California. Andy has resided in Chico for over 30 years. He was an 8th generation Californian on his mother’s side as a descendent of the Sepulveda land grant family of Early California. On his father’s side, Andy was a descendent of William Bradford, a founder of the Massachusetts Plymouth colony.
Andy attended high schools in Pleasanton and Dunsmuir. He graduated from Dunsmuir High in 1971 where Andy earned a Block D Letter for participation in tennis, was Junior Class President, a California Scholarship Federation recipient, a member of the National Honor Society and was the American Legion’s Boy’s State representative. He earned his B.S. degree from Chico State in Business and Accounting. He was a member of professional business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi, Epsilon Theta chapter, where he served in several leadership positions. He was also a member of the Beta Alpha Psi, a National Accounting Fraternity.
He worked his way through college as a front desk manager, assistant innkeeper and night auditor at the Holiday Inn of Chico. Upon graduation, he worked for the accounting firm of Moore, Miller and Evanhoe, Accountants, Inc. of Redding and then Joseph A. Miller, CPA of Red Bluff. In addition to working for the Chico firm of Paragon Property Management, he opened his own tax accounting and payroll firm of A. B. MacLane in 1982 where he met the accounting needs of many local residents for the past twenty-two years.
He is survived by his three sons, Jared, Evan and Alec and daughter, Brenna; mother and stepfather, Irma Jane and Jay Johansen of Willits; father Alan MacLane of Lafayette; brother Bradford MacLane of Benicia; sisters Kathryn Sturgis-Bright of Richmond, Stephanie Sturgis-Griffin of Oakland, and Laurie Lee of Silver Springs, Nevada; step-sisters Susan  Jones and Jane Osborne of Silver Springs, Nevada; and step-brother Doug Robison of Portland, Oregon. Chelsea MacKinnon, and his two grandchildren, Halee and Jeremy MacLane of Chico, also survive him. His Aunts Claudia and Jean, as well as his many in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews, will miss him.
The family would like to particularly recognize Andy’s long friendship with Ron Braga of Orland, as well as his special friendships with John Winningham, Ranger Rick McGaugh and B.J. Baker, all of Chico. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service to be held Friday, July 23, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the Chico Area Recreation and Park District in the Community Center, 545 Vallombrosa Avenue, Chico, CA. The family thanks the Chico staff of the Newton & Bracewell funeral home and suggests donations be made in Andy’s memory to the American Heart Association.

James Jackson
June 17, 1925 - July 15, 2004

James Lewis Jackson
A funeral will be held for James Lewis Jackson, 79, of Magalia on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the Magalia Community Church. He died July 15, 2004 in Sacramento, California. He was born June 17, 1925 to Price and Norene Jackson. James was a veteran of World War II and a survivor of the South Pacific Campaign. For 25 Years, he was a mechanical engineer at Linton Industries.
James is survived by his wife of 60 years Ellene Jackson; a son James  Jackson of Janesville; daughters Marcia of Elk Grove, Linda of Elk Grove and Kristine of Ohio; 10 grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren.
A graveside service will follow at Skyway Memorial Park. Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Gladys Jones
May 10, 1917 - July 16, 2004

GLADYS  Jones –
Gladys Edith  Jones was born May 10, 1917 to Jasper and Roxie Coon in the family’s home on Miller Avenue in Chico. She passed away July 16, 2004 at the age of 87 following complications from a stroke. When Gladys was three years old, her family moved to their newly purchased farm seven miles west of Chico. However, since there were no roads out to the ranch when it came time for Gladys to start school she and her mom moved to Durham, and she lived there until she graduated from Durham High School. After graduation she moved back to the ranch where she lived until four years ago. Before she got married she worked at Continental Nut, Diamond Match and at the Coon almond shelling plant. Gladys married Harold  Jones in 1946, and they both quit their jobs in town and began working along side her father on the family almond ranch. Gladys is survived by her husband of 58 years, one son, Ron  Jones of Chico, grandsons Daryl  Jones of Chico and Greg  Jones of Sacramento, and two great-grandsons. A memorial service will be held at 10:30a.m. Friday July 23rd at the family ranch, 9878 River Road in Chico.
