Lillian King Jennings Brown passed away at her ranch, Acorn Acres, on Tuesday morning, Feb. 22. Born on Sept. 17, 1912 in Fort Benton, Montana, to Harry and Martha (O’Reilly) King, she was 92 years old.
Lillian’s death ends an entire generation. In recent years, a lifelong dream of a journey to Ireland was fulfilled. With courage and tenacity, she traveled through life, daring to forge new paths.
She is survived by two nieces, Regina King, of Sacramento, Jennifer Karsikas, of North Carolina, three great nieces Anne Alman, Michelle Loera and Melissa King, and one great nephew, Michael Karsikas. Additional survivors are step-granchildren Lori and Bill Jennings, cousins John and Diana Larkins, and beloved cousin, Rachele Klein.
Her parents, brother, John, her husband, John Brown, and a stepson, George Jennings, preceded her in death.
Cremation was through Vaca Hills Chapel, in Vacaville. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 7, at the Winters Community Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lillian’s name to the charity of the donor’s choice, preferably to benefit animals.
Oma V. Beasley, long time Winters resident, quietly passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005 at Sierra Health Care Convelescent Hospital in Davis. Born June 1, 1918 in Arkansas, she was 86 years old.
Mrs. Beasley became a Winters resident in the 1950s and retired from Basic Foods in Vacaville. She was an active member of the Winters Community and worked in several volunteer organizations. She also volunteered much of her time at the Senior Center in Woodland. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her son Billy Gaither and his wife Bonnie of Millville; brothers Floyd and Herman Gaither of Watsonville; sister Mabel Livingston of Yakima, Washington; four grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her son Pete Garrett in August 1974, and by three brothers and two sisters.
Friends were invited to attend a funeral service for Mrs. Beasley on Saturday, Feb. 26, at 1 p.m. at the First Southern Baptist Church in Winters. Interment in the Winters Cemetery
will take place at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Chapel.
Isabel Anderson (Valadez) passed away peacefully at home in Sacramento on Feb. 26, 2005. Born October 5, 1941 in Winters, "Chacha" met her lifelong partner Robert Anderson as a childhood playmate; Bob and Chach were to begin their 40th year of marriage this March. She was the beloved mother of Nathan Anderson and Jaime Lynne Anderson, and her "adopted" daughter, Christina, all of Sacramento.
She leaves behind brothers Frank, Emilio, Raymond, Tony, and Felix Jr. and sisters Margaret, Gloria, and Ann, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Felix and Ambrosia Valadez, of Winters and was the youngest of nine.
Isabel’s work and passion was teaching; for 25 years she taught at Pony Express, Nicholas, and John Bidwell Elementary Schools in Sacramento, loving her little ones as her own. She loved gardening and spoiling her pet cockatiel Cuckoo and "grand-kitzen" Callie.
The Rosary will be held Thursday, March 3, at 6 p.m. at St. Rose, 5961 Franklin Blvd, Sacramento. Funeral mass to be held Friday, March 4, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s, 511 Main Street in Winters, CA.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Diabetes Association, and the family encourages you to consider becoming a living organ donor.
Fred R. Martin passed away on Feb. 21, 2005, in Davis. Born on Feb. 25, 1926, in Winters, he was 78 years old.
Mr. Martin worked as a farmer and was a lifelong resident of Winters.
He is survived by his daughter Wendy Lopez and her husband, Joe, of Yuba City; sons Steve Martin and his wife, Loretta, of Winters, and John Martin and his wife, Cindy, of Vacaville; grandchildren Jeremy, Brian, Chris, Sarah and Adam, and great-grandchildren Masen, Connar, Sloan and Holden. He is also survived by his brothers, Joe Martin, of Sacramento, Tony Martin, of Winters and John Martin, of Winters, and his sister, Ann Shuler, of Rio Vista.
His parents, John and Isabel Martin, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 28, 2005 from 5-7 p.m. at McCune Garden Chapel, in Vacaville.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at 10 a.m. at the Winters Cemetery. Pastor Frank Salamone will preside.

Fernando Bautista Javier of Guadalupe passed away on Feb. 14, 2005 at the age of 92. Born on May 30, 1911 in Calero Morang, Rizal, Philippine Islands, he arrived in the US at the age of 16, where he worked for local farms and traveled up to Alaska seeking employment. In 1942 he joined the US Navy and served our country during World War II from 1942-1945. He later worked at Vandenberg Air Force Base until his retirement in 1978.
He is survived by his children: Louie Javier and wife Yolanda, Audrey Javier, Vickie Javier-Catalan and husband Norm, and Connie Ferreira and husband Alfonso . He also leaves grandchildren Connie Renee Gomez, Louie Lee Javier, Andrea and Carlos Avery, Jonathon, Christopher, and Mathew Catalan, and Yvette Ferreira. Great grandchildren are Tristen, Alyssa and Lauren Gomez. Mr. Javier also had many friends who will miss him.
Mr. Javier was preceded in death by his wife, Angelina Arias. He is survived by her children, Victor Hernandez, Bert Hernandez, Petra Rodriquez, Rudy Hernandez, Angelina Meza, Hortencia Gaines, and Eli Hernandez, and their children Anthony, Yvonne , and Christina Hernandez, Isaac and Karina Hernandez and Steven Gutierrez and Isaiah Gains.
A rosary and a funeral mass were celebrated and he was buried in Guadalupe Cemetery
with full military honors.
Rose Anna Hicks passed away Feb. 13, 2005 at Sierra Health Care Center in Davis from complications due to pneumonia. While there, she was surrounded by family and loved ones.
Rose was born on Dec. 10, 1916 in Jamestown, Kansas. In her youth, she worked as a practical nurse and eventually came to California where she married Lloyd Franklin Hicks in Dixon on Aug. 26, 1939. She and "Frank" raised a family of six children and lived in the Vacaville-Winters area for many years before moving to Winters in 1953.
Rose is survived by her children: Margie Topacio, of San Diego, David Hicks, of Oroville, Robert Hicks, of Oroville, Wayne Hicks, of Sacramento, Steve Hicks, of Winters and Kathy Brite, of Stonyford; many grandchildren: Tony, Robert, Elena and James Topacio; Bobby Hicks; Johnny and Sylvia Macias; Leanne and James Hicks; Corianne, David Jr., and James Tunstall; Rashelle, Payne and Crystal Bruhn, and 13 great grandchildren; also by her sisters Gertrude West, of Concordia, Kansas, Margaret Brown of Pevely, Missouri, Josephine DeMaris, of South Bend, Washington and her brother, Ralph King, of Eudora, Kansas.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, also a native of Kansas, in December, 2000.
She will be missed by family and friends. She was a member of St. Anthony Parish and a service will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 511 Main Street in Winters, Thursday, Feb. 17, at 10 a.m.
Burial will be next to her late husband Frank, in the Winters Cemetery.
Davis Funeral Chapel is assisting with the arrangments.
Augustina (Tina) Coombs died quietly in her home on Feb. 10, 2005 surrounded by her family. Tina was born Sept. 27, 1916 in Killawai, Hawaii to Feliz and Crestencia Gonzales. Later, the family moved to Winters where she helped on the ranch and attended Olive School. Tina married Bob Coombs on Oct. 24, 1937 and they had one daughter, Judy.
Tina was preceded in death by her husband Bob, who died three months and three days before her. Also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Tina is survived by her daughter Judy and her husband, Jim Correia of Arbuckle, grandsons Kevin Correia of Arbuckle, Craig and wife Lisa Correia of College City, granddaughter Tammy Haynie of Moses Lake, WA., seven great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
Tina is also survived by two sisters, Theresa Sackett of Winters and Victoria Weber of Hawaii, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Tina was known as "the sunshine of the family."
Graveside services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 1 p.m. at the Winters Cemetery.

Karen Louise Ruhn, life partner of Ted Hawkins, formerly of Winters, died suddenly of a coronary occlusion on January 31.
Born November 14, 1950 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Robert and Allie Johnson, she attended the University of Minnesota majoring in fine arts and business. Her college majors served her well as she developed an expertise as a goldsmith, and jewelry designer and also as a real estate develper in Minnesota and later in North Carolina.
Learning to sail, she and Ted planned a boat trip to Mexico this fall. They had recently purchased a 300 year-old home in Merida in the Yucatan that they were remodeling.
Her husband, Tim Ruhn, died in an automobile accident in 1986. She leaves three siblings in Minnesota – Eric, Chris, and Andrea.
