A native of Brooklyn, New York, she loved Big Bear Valley and saw it grow for 27 years.
Margaret's family was her joy and life.
Foch Arnold Parkinson
84, passed from this life January 25, 2003, at the Beaver Valley Hospital from a long illness.
Foch was born on June 29, 1918, in Beaver, Utah, to George Arnold and Aretta Joseph Parkinson.
He was the oldest of 8 children.
He graduated from Beaver High School in 1936. He was a member of the LDS Church.
Judy Gavin
In a world where events lead to an abundance of questions, we often find ourselves asking one question in particular: What is the purpose of life?
For Judy Gavin, this question could be answered with one word: Love. Whether she was traveling around the world, completing her Bachelor's degree or spending precious time with her children, Judy always had a common goal; to love and to love with passion.
Judy was born December 30, 1941, in Indiana and passed peacefully on January 29, 2003. She passed in the same way she lived; surrounded and held by her children and family. She leaves behind her children, Nick Lanza, Erin, Tim and Scarlet Brigham, Steve Allen, and Joe Lanza, all residing in Big Bear. She also leaves behind an abundance of friends who will continue to live as she did; with Love.
Emily J. Gulick
90, passed away January 29, 2003, at 7:15 p.m. in Redlands, Calif. Born in Bakersfield, Calif. on September 28, 1912, to an immigrant French family, Emily came to Big Bear with her husband, Frederic Schweitzer, in 1954 as a part-time resident. Emily became a permanent resident in 1977 when she began her journey as Big Bear's "Flower Lady." Her "Maison des Fleurs" continues to inspire fellow green thumbs today. Emily's garden is a symbol of her life. It tells the story of how she lived and how she loved. Each flower is saturated with the colors of her soul. Her vibrant spirit will be missed by all!
Thrice widowed, Emily is survived by her sister Gita Lorenzi; son Stephen Schweitzer and his wife Anna; daughter Nanette and her husband Ted Knight; four grandchildren, Brent Cookson, Courtney Knight, Ashley Knight and Jordan Knight; and one great-grandchild, Madeline Cookson. Lucille H.M. Raney
86, passed January 30, 2003, in Springville, Calif. Born January 21, 1917, in Langford, South Dakota, to Louis and Emma Lofquist, Lucille was a resident of Springville for 48 years, previously of Highland, Calif. She was a fruit grower for 60 years, a member of the Arrowhead Country Club, River Island Country Club and the Porterville Golf Association. She was also a Pink Lady at Sierra View District Hospital and member of the Wednesday Bridge Group. Lucille was a great cook and loved a good gathering of friends. She enjoyed roses, gardening, hunting, fishing, and swimming in the ocean and Big Bear Lake. She liked to sit on the porch and watch her birds, dog, Millie and Raney Packers Little League. As Ceil would say, "Keep laughing and smiling."
She is survived by her daughter Lillian Atkinson of West Hills, Calif., stepdaughter Jane Raney Roberts of Naples, Flor., stepson Robert M. Raney of Pasadena, Calif., four grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Private services were held.

Murielle Mercer (Nee wood) Harrison
88, passed October 14, 2002 at home in Poway, Calif. Born December 27, 1913 in Ashton-Under-Lyne, Lancashire, England, Murielle was a part-time resident and had purchased a home here in the Valley last July with plans of moving in January to be a permanent resident in Big Bear City to be close to her daughter. She was legal secretary for 25 years, a member of the Daughters of the British Empire Guinevere chapter and a member of the Palm Springs Square Dancers.
She is survived by her daughter Jacqy Harrison-Downing of Big Bear City, Calif.; son Ian J.N. Harrison of Newport Beach, Calif.; 5 grandchildren Russell and Robert Downing, Ryan, Sean -Patrick Harrison and Jill Hirsch plus 5 great grandchildren, Jayson, Matthew and Joseph Downing and Gabrielle and Tyler Hirsch.
Eunice M. Anger
89, passed January 20, 2003, in Palm Springs, Calif. A native of Little River, KS., Eunice was a bookkeeper for 68 years in the healthcare industry and a 25-year resident of Big Bear Valley. She is survived by her son Samuel of Boise, Idaho; daughters, Kathyleen Sciarrotta of Palm Springs, Calif. and Army-Armaleen Hunter of Big Bear, Calif.; plus 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Services were held January 25, 2003, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church followed by interment at Gold Mountain Memorial Park. Big Bear Mortuary, directors.
Mark Alan Hensley
37, passed January 30, 2003, in Big Bear City, Calif.
Born October 2, 1965, in Upland, Calif., Mark lived in Big Bear for 26 years.
He served with the United States Forest Service since 1985 and worked as a Mojave Greens Firefighter.
He was also a firefighter on Deerlick Engine 12 and worked as a Fire Prevention Technician in the Big Bear Valley.
Dana Vaughn Stewart
45, passed April 6, 2003.
Born August 21, 1957, Dana was a construction employee and a long time resident of Big Bear.
Dr. Raymond Lee Beach
87, passed April 5, 2003, from natural causes at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills, Calif. Born February 7, 1916, in Culbertson, Neb., he leaves two children, Lorraine Irene Living in Dripping Springs, Texas and Douglas Lee living in Hacienda Heights, Calif., children born to he and Billie Beach. He practiced medicine in Big Bear Lake from 1950 to 1968 out of the Emergency Medical Clinic on Pine Knot Blvd. Dr. Beach was involved with the Big Bear Community as a member of the Rotary, Elks, and the School Board. He leaves the legacy of responsible citizen, educator, and healer of the sick. No public services will be held. Flowers and condolences may be sent to the family at 3432 So. Charles A. Deal
80, passed April 8, 2003. Born January 29, 1923, he was a native of Southern California and a WWII Navy veteran. Chuck was married to Millie for over 50 years and together made their home and raised a family in West Covina, Calif. He retired from the Plumbers Local Union #398 to live in Big Bear Lake for 28 years. Chuck manage the car wash on Hwy. 18 and was friend to many in town. He is survived by his brother, Bunk Deal in Helendale, Calif., his three children, Carla and Rex Deal of Glendora, Calif., and Duke Deal of Mission Viejo, Calif. Charles was a beloved grandpa to ten grandchildren and will be dearly missed by all. Services were held at Rose Hills Memorial park, Whittier, Calif. on April 14, 2003.
Robert "Bob or Papa" L. Walters
74, passed April 4, 2003 at his home in Big Bear Lake, Calif. A 29 year resident, Bob work for Caltrans as a heavy equipment operator for 20 years in Big Bear and retired in 1990. Born April 25, 1928 in Collins, Iowa, Bob served one year with the Merchant Marines, 2 years with the Army and then 4 years with the Air Force. A staff sergeant, he served in the Korean War plus in Japan and Germany. Moving to Riverside in 1942, Bob worked for the Riverside Police Dept. from 1956 to 1969.
Robert is survived by his wife of 33 years, Vicki; 2 daughters, Carol Vargas and Janice Young, both of Riverside, Calif; 3 sons, Donnie Walters of Riverside, Calif., Mike Elliott of Redlands, Calif., 2 brothers, Larry and Howard Walters, both of Riverside; 2 sisters, Elizabeth Jennings and Jean Butler, also of Riverside; plus 18 wonderful grandchildren and 5 super wonderful great grandchildren.
As an active longtime member of the Elks Lodge of Big Bear Lake, there will be a memorial held for Bob on Thursday, April 17, at 1 p.m. at the lodge. In lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to Disabled Veterans would be appreciated.
Lynn R. Seyb
81, passed May 25, 2003, in Big Bear Lake, Calif. Born September 20, 1921, in Jacksonville, Flor., Lynn was a 31-year resident of Big Bear Valley and very active in the community serving with the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 485, founding charter president of the Daughters of the Nile #12, a historian with the Women's Club, the Bear Valley Community Hospital Auxiliary and a member of the St. Columba's Episcopal Church for over 20 years. Lynn was also a member of AARP for many, many years.
Lynn is preceded in death by two of her children, Nora and Robert; her husband Ralph and granddaughter Regina. She is survived by daughter Gina Barber of Big Bear City; 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandson; and many precious long time friends.
Memorial services will be held at St. Columba's Episcopal church on Monday, June 9 at 11 a.m. The members of the Eastern Star will hold a memorial for Lynn on June 17, 2003, at 1 p.m. at the Masonic Temple on Summit Blvd.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother and devoted friend to all who met her, Lynn will truly be missed. She touched our life and made it better.
Jack Douglas "Doug" Andrick
71, passed May 22, 2003. Born January 2, 1932, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Doug, a former resident of Orange County, was a well-respected engineer having worked for several large and reputable firm before retiring from FWM Engineering Co. in 1997 and moving to Big Bear Lake, Calif. Here in the Valley he took pleasure from skiing, sailing, tennis, biking and many other wonderful activities with his many new, and old friends up to this very last year and rode his bike to the post office. He also spent hours working cryptographs, and playing Ping-Pong with his new Big Bear buddies. Doug enjoyed traveling as well as staying at home entertaining friends and family.
He is survived in loving memory by his son Dan Andrick of Bellingham, Wash., step children, David Musser of Stockton, Calif., Lynda Musser-Huff of Barstow, Calif., Stephen Musser of Virginia City, Nev., Gregory Musser of Big Bear Lake, Calif., eleven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren, a sister Judy Whitfield of Narmata, British Columbia, and his cat Toby. Doug was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn on December 24, 2002.
After Evelyn's death his health took a downward turn, resulting in multiple cancers that took little over two weeks from discovery to his parting peacefully in his home in Big Bear Lake, Calif., lucid almost to the very last, surrounded by his loved ones.
