Frank Peters
Frank Peters, 76, of Lodi, entered into rest, on June 2, 2003, at a Lodi hospital. He was born on February 6, 1927 in Woodland, California, the son of Frank Peters and Theresa Sousa.
Frank was a dairyman for most of his life. He owned and operated a dairy in Elk Grove for several decades, until he moved to Lodi in 1985, where he worked for Joe Balcoa Land Leveling and Boethine Tree Farm.
Frank was Member and Line Officer of St. Anne's Catholic Church Knight of Columbus, being raised to the Fourth Degree. He was also a member of S.E.S. (Sociedad do Espiritu Santo) Portuguese Lodge, and the Luzo-American Federation.
Frank was known as a very honest, quiet and hard working man. His most admirable traits were his kindness and his willingness to help those in need. He will be missed by all.
Frank is survived by his beloved wife, Dolores Peters of Lodi; two daughters, Linda Dabb of Sacramento, and Cindy Wray of Lodi; two sons, Frank Peters of Elk Grove, and Ernie Bettencourt of Clements; 3 grandchildren; two sisters, of Grace Zraggren of Elk Grove, and Elizabeth Samoes of Portugal; one brother Manuel Peters of Elk Grove. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and godchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, James Bettencourt, granddaughter Ashley Bettencourt, and his first wife Adeline Martin Peters.
Friends are invited to visit from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 4th, and Thursday, June 5th at Lodi Funeral Home, 725 S. Fairmont Avenue in Lodi. The Recitation of the Rosary and Celebration of the Funeral Liturgy will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 6th, 2003 at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 215 W. Walnut Street, in Lodi. The St. Anne's Church Knights of Columbus will escort his into the Church. Father Jesu Velichore, officiating. Graveside committal service and interment will be at 1:00 P.M. on Firday, at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery
in Sacramento with Father Eduino Silveira of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Sacramento, officiating.

Frank Peters
Funeral services will take place today for Frank Peters, a longtime dairyman in this area, who died June 2, 2003 in Lodi at the age of 79.
Mr. Peters was born Feb. 6, 1927 in Woodland to Theresa Souza and Frank Peters. He owned and operated a dairy in Elk Grove for several decades until he moved to Lodi in 1985 where he worked for Joe Balcoa Land Leveling and Boethine Tree Farm.

Mr. Peters was preceded in death by his son James Bettencourt, his granddaughter Ashley Bettencourt and his first wife Adeline Martin Peters.
He is survived by his wife Dolores Peters of Lodi; his children, Linda Dabb and husband Kelly of Sacramento, Cindy Wray and husband Larry of Lodi, Frank Peters and fiancee Cheryl of Elk Grove and Ernie Bettencourt of Clements; and his grandchildren Mary and Tommy Corralez and Jessica Bettencourt.
Mr. Peters was the brother of Grace Zgraggen, and Manuel Peters and wife Lucille, all of Elk Grove; and Elizabeth Samoes and husband Daniel of Portugal. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The recitation of the rosary and celebration of the funeral liturgy will begin at 10 a.m. today at St.
Anne's Catholic Church, 215 West Walnut Street in Lodi. The Knights of Columbus will escort him into the church, and officiating will be Father Jesu Velichore.
Graveside services will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery
in Sacramento with Father Silveira of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Sacramento officiating. Remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association, 1212 W. Robinwood Drive, Suite 5-D, Stockton, CA 95207.

James Hanson
James Alvin Hanson Jr., a resident of Elk Grove for the past 15 years, died June 3, 2003.
Mr. Hanson was a chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy for 31 years, and a local funeral director for the past 20 years.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Elks Lodge, VFW, Knights of Columbus, Rotary Club and S.E.S. Council No. 76.
A Mass of Christian burial was held Thursday with private interment in San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery.

Caitlin Gilles
Funeral services will take place today for Caitlin Abad Gilles, 15-month-old daughter of Carmelita and Chris Gilles of Elk Grove, who died May 30, 2003. Caitlin was born Feb. 28, 2002.
Besides her parents, she is survived by her grandparents, Teodoro and Concepcion Abad of Vallejo, Nancy Roys of Sonora, and Don and Annie Gilles of Visalia; and her great-grandmother, Dorothy Gilles of Sonora.
She is also survived by several aunts and uncles including Kirk Gilles of Elk Grove.
Today's services begin at 10 a.m. at South East Lawn Mortuary, 9189 East Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove.

Viola May McCombs
Viola May McCombs, 72, of Lodi, passed away at Lodi hospital on Monday, June 2, 2003. A native of Catalpa, Nebraska, she was born on July 18, 1930, the daughter of John and Violet Moeller.
Viola's family moved to Oregon and Washington, where she attended local schools. When she was 17, she moved to Lodi. She was a graduate of Lodi High School Adult Education Program.
On August 19, 1947, Viola married Arlie "Bud" McCombs in Reno, Nevada. The couple later renewed their marriage vows at a ceremony at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Lodi. Their marriage was with 42 years of good life an mutual devotion, and three sons, Don, Lonnie and David, to whom they devoted their lives.
Viola was exceptional as a wife, mother and grandmother. She worked a variety of jobs, although she was a homemaker most of her life. Besides caring for her family, Viola enjoyed doing volunteer work and being involved in community affairs. She was a volunteer at Lodi's Hutchins Square, Lowel Senior's Center, the Lodi Police Department Partners, the Fifty Plus Club, and the Mary Graham Children's Shelter Guild. She was member of Women of the Moose, the Good Sams Lodi Trailer Club, and enjoyed calling bingo at various events. In her earlier years, she was involved as a parent counselor with a local Cub Scouts Troop. She was kind and generous and loved to help others in need.
Viola is survived by her three sons: Don McCombs of Livermore, Lonnie McCombs of Stockton, and David McCombs of Lodi; four grandchildren, Kelli Christensen, Shannon McWilliams, Jennifer McCombs and Jonathan McCombs; one great-grandson, Tyler Christensen; her sister, Helen Prescott of Salem Oregon; and her brother, Johnny Moeller of Washington. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Arlie McCombs in 1989.
Friends are invited to call for visitation from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 4th, at Lodi Funeral Home, 725 S. Fairmont Avenue in Lodi. A graveside committal service will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Thursday, June 5th at Cherokee Memorial Park.

Helen Cottingham
Helen Schott Cottingham, 97, of Lodi, passed away on May 31, 2003 of natural causes in a local hospital following a long illness. She was born on December 7, 1905 in Rosenort, Manitoba, Canada, where she was raised.
Mrs. Cottingham moved to Southern California with her family in 1923. She married James Samuel Cottingham in 1936. They divorced four years later in 1940.
She moved to with her family to Galt, where they owned and operated a dairy, to care for her parents and four brothers. She settled in Lodi in 1970.
She was a member of Bethel Open Bible Church in Lodi. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and crocheting.
She is survived by her brother, Arthur J. Schott of Lodi; three nieces, Gladys Aiken of Lodi, Mildred Lindquist of Lodi, and Frances James of Vancouver, Washington; 1 nephew, Alfred Palmer of Yerington, Nevada. She also survived by several other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Helena Schott; five brothers, Otto, Gustav, Ernest, Charlie and Adolf Schott; and two sister, Bertha Palmer and Mary Brown.
Private services were held under the direction of Lodi Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Felipe Hernandez Soto
Felipe Hernadez Soto, 72, of Thorton, passed away at a Lodi hospital on June 2, 2003, after a long illness. A native of Gran Morelos, Chihuahua, Mexico, born on August 23, 1930, Mr. Hernandez was the son of Felipe Hernandez and Guadalupe Soto.
In 1953, he married his first wife, Cristina Estrada. In 1970, his wife passed away. On July 21, 1977, he married Maria Guadalupe Cobian in Rio Vista, CA, and moved to Thornton in November of 2000. Mr. Hernandez worked as a farm laborer in Rio Vista from 1965 until 1991, when he suffered a stroke.
Mr. Hernandez was know for his tenacity and determination, as well as his resilience and stamina. He was a hard-working, honest man, who loved his family, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Guadalupe Hernandez of Thornton; three sons, Felipe Hernandez, Jr., Ramon Hernandez and Freddy Hernandez; sixdaughters, Anna Maria Hernandez, Isidra Borquez, Maria Concepcion Hurtado, Maria Guadalupe Hernandez, Rosa Irma Goytia and Gabriela Hernandez-Ramos;; three brothers, Cosme Hernandez, Antonio Hernandez, and Raul Hernandez; five sisters, Rosa Hernandez, Beatriz Hernandez, Josefina Serna, Emma Corona and Luzelena Estrada; 15 grandchildren, Christina Perez, Robert Alexander Hernandez, Michael Anthony Borquez, David Raymond Borquez, Juan Carlos Hurtado, Jaime Alfonso Hurtado, Stephanie Hurtado, Christian Rosales, Adrian Alejandro Rosales, Michelangelo Rosales, Samantha Barcenas, Sabrina Barcenas, Claudia Rosemarie Goytia, Arthur Joseph Goytia, Brandon Anthony Goytia; one step-grandson, David Michael Ramos; and three great-grandchildren, Daniel Aguilar, Briana Aguilar and Victor Solorio . He was preceded in death by his first wife, Cristina Estrada; his parents, Felipe Hernandez and Guadalupe Soto; one sons, Hector Estrada; two daughters, Carmelita and Cristina Hernandez; and one brother, Julio Hernandez.
Friends are invited to attend visitations from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday and Friday, June 5-6, 2003 at Lodi Funeral Home, 725. S. Fairmont Avenue in Lodi. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 8:00 P.M. on Friday, June 7th, at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for his soul at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 7, 2003 at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 950 S. Lincoln in Galt. Father Jerry Ryle, officiating. Committal and interment will follow at Galt Arno Cemetery
in Galt.
