Marjory Alsbury, a longtime Dixon resident, died peacefully at the Vacaville Rehabilitation and Convalescence Center on Nov. 11, 2004. She was 85.
Born in Benkelman, Nebraska, on Mar. 31, 1919, Mrs. Alsbury taught school before marrying her high school sweetheart. She was a gifted seamstress, taught 4H, judged sewing at county fairs and was an accomplished gardener. After her husband's death, she began working at UC Davis and retired in 1989. She kept herself busy with many projects until she was no longer able. She was a member of the Dixon Community Church and of the Dixon Senior Citizens' Center. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her four children, daughter Sylvia Jean Humphreys and her husband Merril of Imperial, Nebraska; son Merwyn Glen Alsbury and his wife Linda of Winters; son Loren Dean Alsbury; daughter Glenda Lynn Curiale and husband Tom of Colorado Springs, CO; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Wesley Alsbury.
A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17, at Gateway Chapel, 201 Main Street in Winters. Interment followed at the Silveyville Cemetery, in Dixon.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to: National Breast Cancer Foundation, One Hanover Park, 16633 N. Dallas Parkway, Suite 600, Addison, TX 75001.

Mr. Agapito Aguirre passed away on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004 at home in Winters. Born on Sept. 17, 1930, in Santa Barbara, Chihuahua, Mexico, he was 74 years old.
Mr. Aguirre was a resident of Winters for over 60 years. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ignacia; children, Gilbert, Susana, Elsa and Brunilda; grandchildren Piialoha, Iwalani, Estrella, Crystal, Vincent, Oilipua, Lilinoe, Gilbert, Daniel and Luis, and four great-grandchildren, Daniel, Koa’rii, Eddie and Tehani. He is also survived by his three sisters, Eugenia, of Colorado, Crecensia, of Chihuahua and Narcisa, of Juarez.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Winters. A service will follow on Friday, Nov. 19, at 10 a.m. at the same church.
He will be buried at the Winters Cemetery.

A graveside service was held on Nov. 10, 2004, for Robert Charles Coombs, at the Winters Cemetery. Pastor Bob Badgley officiated under the direction of Smith’s Colonial Chapel, of Winters. He was born on July 14, 1914.
Bob passed away peacefully in his home with family and friends sitting vigil. He was a Winters native, attending local schools and lived into adulthood with his parents, Robert and Stella Coombs in their family home on Baker Street.
His parents, as young married adults, owned a home and property in Big Portuguese Canyon on the banks of Putah Creek, now the banks of Lake Berryessa. The property later became grounds for fishing and hunting for Bob, his brothers, Howard and Melvin, and their friends.
Like many, he was tested by the depression. He joined the California Conservation Corps during President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s era and during World War II. He was employed in the Vallejo shipyards as an apprentice plumber. He was precise and thorough in what he chose as a career, and was employed by Fenely Hardware on Main Street in Winters, as a plumber, after the war. He then opened his own plumbing business in a barnwood building owned by Southern Pacific where the Gazebo now stands.
Bob loved hunting, fishing and barbecues for family and friends in his backyard. His grandchildren were especially devoted to him.
Bob married his wife, Augustina Gonzales on Oct. 14, 1936, and lived in a home they built on Abbey Street.
He is survived by his wife, Tina; daughter Judy and her husband James; grandchildren Tammie, Kevin and Craige, and his wife Lisa; also six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Howard and Melvin, and his uncle Senator Nathan Coombs, of Napa Valley.
Donations may be made in his name to the Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, CA 95617, or to the donor’s choice.

William Clyde Alexander passed away on Nov. 4, 2004. He was born in San Jose on Feb. 22, 1922 to Clyde and Ellse Alexander, where he lived with his family until 1965, when they moved to Winters.
Mr. Alexander was a prominent Catholic, as well as an active Knight of Malta and past president of Serra International. He was also a member of the Society of California Pioneers.
In San Jose his occupation was building and designing custom homes, subdividing Western Gardens in the Willow Glen area, and, with his friend Robert Dodge, in the exclusive Linden Oaks subdivision. At his ranch in Winters, Mr. Alexander grew and packed cherries, apricots, peaches and prunes. He was a board member of the California Apricot Producers and a longtime member of Blue Anchor and Sunsweet. A pioneer in the dried fruit industry, many of his innovations have been adopted industry-wide. He was also the first to sun-dry tomatoes in California on a commercial basis.
In 2001, he sold the ranch property in Winters and moved to Carmel Valley with Catherine, his wife of 59 years. His sister, Patricia, also lives there.
Bill loved to have large family dinners, especially at the ranch, with a roaring fire going in the fireplace. He was a great Cal fan, especially of the football program, and his family and friends are sorry he didn’t get to enjoy this Cal season.
He attended Bellarmine College Prep, University of Santa Clara, and studied in the Architectural School at the University of California at Berkeley. He also served in the Marine Corps during World War II.
Mr. Alexander is survived by his five children, Leslie and her husband, Stan, Lindsey and her husband, Steven, Lorie and her husband, Michael, Matthew and his wife, Penelope and Lisa and her husband Howard. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, Nov. 22, at 11 a.m. at the Carmel Mission.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Bellarmine College Prep or Santa Clara University, in his name.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Davis Memorial Chapel, 609 Main Street, Watsonville, CA 95076.

Audrey Nicholson passed away on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, surrounded by her family. Born on Oct. 4, 1921, she was 83 years old.
Born and raised in Vacaville, she married Miles Nicholson and moved to Davis in 1940. They resided there from 1941 to 1969. In 1969 they purchased their ranch in Winters, where they have lived since. Mrs. Nicholson was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who always put family first and doted on her children. Her greatest joy was cooking dinners for her friends and family. Her table overflowed with food and love. Her home was a gathering place where everyone was welcome and everyone wanted to be. Her kindness, warmth and generosity will never be forgotten.
She was a member of the Saturday Club and Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Miles; children Kay and Tom Towne, of Vacaville, Tom and Debbie Nicholson, of Winters, Susie and Tom Jones, of Oakhurst and Jon and Caroline Nicholson, of Winters; grandchildren Kim, Mitch, Jennifer, Wayde, Sally, Henry, Lila, Amanda, Jacob, Emma and William; also eight great-grandchildren and numerous extended family members and good friends.
Services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 4, at 10 a.m. in Vaca Hills Chapel. Retired pastor Stanley Brown will officiate. The burial will be at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Yolo Hospice or American Cancer Society.
Vaca Hills Chapel Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.

David Calvis Harvey passed away peacefully on Oct. 22, 2004. He was born on Dec. 12, 1933 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Howard George and Lilly Elvira Nelson Harvey. He grew up in Wollaston, Massachusetts and graduated from North Quincy High School in 1951.
Mr. Harvey enlisted in the U.S. Air Force two days after graduating from high school, with a dream of becoming a pilot. His dream finally became a reality when he graduated from flight training in September 1961. After Basic Training, he was sent to Burtonwood Air Base in England. While there, Dave met Shelby Jean Bontye at chapel choir practice. They were married on Dec. 28, 1955 in Massachusetts.
The Air Force took the Harveys all over the United States, to France, and back to England before being stationed at Travis AFB when they moved to Winters in 1969. Mr. Harvey fulfilled a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1970 to 1971. He retired from the Air Force in 1971. He sold insurance and cars, before returning to college, earning a Masters Degree in elementary education and math in 1980. He taught for 12 years in Yolo and Solano county schools before retiring in 1992.
Mr. Harvey was active in the Pioneer Presbyterian Church and then the Church of Christ. He was on the Winters Planning Commission, a member of the Yolo County Grand Jury 1994-95 and assisted his wife extensively with her many activities and duties as a Girl Scout Leader and Leader Trainer. His labor of love lately had been with USAF OCS Class 57c alumni. He spent many tireless hours creating their alumni register and the regularly published newsletter.
Mr. Harvey’s life had become so intertwined with his wife’s that he was at a great loss when she passed away in September 2003. They are now reunited.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Irene and David C. Harvey Jr. of Shingle Springs; Vicki and Thomas Rasul Catterson of Yuba City, Donna and Jon Carey of Spanish Fork, Utah, and Mark and Ana Harvey of Winters; grandchildren, Bonnie Walsh of Citrus Heights, Ryan Harvey of Shingle Springs, Vanessa and Matthew Rasul and Talon Catterson of Yuba City, Rachael, Jake and McKaela Carey of Spanish Fork, Utah, and Stephen Hudson and Derek Harvey of Winters; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Hahn and Dylan Blalock of Citrus Heights.
A Memorial services will be held Friday, Oct. 30, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the Pioneer Presbyterian Church. Mr. Harvey’s remains were donated to the UC Davis Medical Teaching Facility.

Mr. Subran Singh passed away on July 1, 2004. His children were at his bedside in the Intensive Care Unit at Sacramento General Hospital. Born on October 3, 1924 in the Fiji Islands, Mr. Singh brought his entire family to Winters in 1966.
He always felt that this was one of his greatest accomplishments in life. He worked at American Home Foods for 25 years and eventually retired in 1991.
He was proceeded in death by his wife of 43 years, Jagindar K. Singh.
Mr. Singh leaves behind his seven children, Alice Singh of Winters, Meet Lea of Hilmar, Carol Culver of El Dorado Hills, Janis Prasad of Sacramento, Sarjeet, Kandy and John Singh of Winters.
Also, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two brothers and one sister.
Mr. Singh will always be remembered as a loving father and grandfather who cherished his family.
Funeral service and witness cremation were held on July 7, at Sacramento Memorial Lawn Mortuary.
