Elmer Peters
Elmer Lloyd (Pete) Peters, a resident of this area since 1970, died May 6, 2003 at the age of 75.
He was born Jan. 24, 1928 in Iowa, where he grew up, and worked for the American Smelting Company in Omaha, Neb. before moving to California.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley.
Mr. Peters is survived by his children, Carl Peters of Sacramento and Cathy Pulcifer of Elk Grove.
He was the brother of Florence Law, Wilma Cihacek, Thelma Valier (his twin), Shirley Kenney and Kenneth Peters all of Iowa.
Memorial services were held May 10 at the Pt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, Elk Grove. Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1765 Challenge Way, Ste. 115, Sacramento, CA 95815.

Reginald Peart
Memorial services will take place Saturday, July 12 for Reginald M. Peart, a 50-year resident of the Elk Grove/Galt area, who died May 22, 2003 following a lengthy battle with lung cancer.
Mr. Peart was born Dec. 5, 1922 in Lodi and was a cattle rancher. Taking care of his cows and horses was a hobby as well as a business.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II, was a member of the Herald Riders Club and enjoyed a good game of dominoes.
Mr. Peart is survived by his sons, Nick Peart and wife Carol and Douglas Peart, all of Elk Grove; three grandchildren and longtime companion Ruth Flatt.
The VFW will preside at Saturday's service which begins at 11 a.m. at the Herald Community Center, 12746 Ivie Road, Herald. Inurnment was private. Remembrances may be made to Mercy Hospice, 3400 Data Drive, 1st Floor, Rancho Cordova, CA 95690; or VFW Dept. of CA, 1510 J St., Ste. 110, Sacramento, CA 95814.
Arrangements were by Ben Salas Funeral Home, Galt.

Lynn Slavich
Funeral services will be held today (Friday) for Lynn E. Slavich, who died in Wilton July 7, 2003.
Mr. Slavich, 59, was a lifelong resident of the Sacramento/Wilton area. He was twice Past Master of Elk Grove Masonic Lodge No. 173, was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 2577, Native Sons of the Golden West, Scottish Rite and Shriners.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Diane Slavich of Wilton; his children, Brian Slavich and wife Kimberly also of Wilton and Tracy Rivera and husband Sean of Tracy; and his grandchildren, Alycia, Justin, Tyler and Ryan.
Services begin today at 10 a.m. in the Masonic Lodge, 9829 Waterman Road, Elk Grove. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Remembrances may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children, Northern California Unit, P.O. Box 21-4477, Sacramento, CA 95821-0477. Arrangements are by Elk Grove Funeral Chapel.

Julie Johnsen
Memorial services will be held today (Friday) for Julie Lyn Greenlee Johnsen, a resident of Elk Grove since 1981, who died in an auto accident Aug. 9, 2003 at the age of 44.
Mrs. Johnsen was born April 20, 1959 in Lynwood. She was employed by the Elk Grove Unified School District for 10 years before going to work for Kaiser Permanente where she had been for the past five years. Her hobbies included boating and shopping.
She is survived by her sons, Electronic Tech 3rd Class Bruce Johnsen Jr. and Fireman E-3 Andrew Johnsen, both with the U.S. Navy; her parents, Russell and Suzanne Greenlee of Pomona; and her grandmother Lenore Dillavou of Iowa.
Mrs. Johnsen was the sister of Pamela Gorsuch of Hesperia, Jill Keating of Newbury Park, Russell Greenlee II of Alta Loma, Tim Greenlee of Pomona and Christopher Greenlee of Coalinga.
Today's services begin at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Elk Grove, 8939 East Stockton Blvd. with Pastor Duane McDonald officiating. Inurnment is private.
Arrangements are by Ben Salas Funeral Home, Galt.

Grace Lopez
Grace Lopez, a resident of Elk Grove for the past 18 years, died Oct. 26, 2003, at the age of 64.
Mrs. Lopez was born June 18, 1939, in San Carlos Bariloche, Argentina. She married Albert (Lupe) Lopez in December 1963, and they made their home in south Florida until 1985 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Lopez is survived by her children, Albert Jr. and wife Jennifer of Sacramento, Eddie and wife Rhonda of Fort Myers, Fla., Elena and AJ, Frances, Joanne and husband Jeremiah, Andrea and husband Wade all of Elk Grove; 19 grandchildren and a great-grandchild due in January.
She was the sister of Emilio of Cape Coral, Fla., and Vincent of Honolulu.
A rosary was recited Tuesday and funeral Mass held Wednesday. Arrangements were by South East Lawn Mortuary, Elk Grove.

Harry Wilson Sr.
Harry R. Wilson Sr. of Elk Grove, a former director of education at the California Youth Authority, died Feb. 21, 2004 at the age of 86.
Mr. Wilson was born May 28, 1917 in Minnesota and grew up on a farm there. He came to California at age 19 to Canoga Park where he met and married Vesta Wright in 1937.
He attended college at Santa Barbara until World War II broke out at which time he went to work for North American Aircraft buildings airplanes. After the war he attended the University of Southern California in Los Angeles where he received his master's degree in education.
Mr. Wilson spent several years as a teacher, principal and superintendent in various cities in southern California before coming to the Sacramento area and the Youth Authority in 1953. As well as serving as director of education, he was in charge of the buildings and grounds and was responsible for many of the present-day buildings.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Vesta Wilson in 1989.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his daughter, Marilyn Wackman and his son, Harry Russell Wilson Jr., both of Elk Grove; his grandchildren, Howard III, Mike and Alan Wackman, Carrie Williams and H. Russell Wilson III all of Elk Grove and Darren Wilson of Missouri; and 13 great-grandchildren.
No services were held at his request.

Vida Stanley
Vida Frankie Stanley, a resident of Elk Grove, died March 5, 2004 at the age of 85.
She was born May 12, 1918 in Patmos, Ark., the youngest of 10 children, and lived in Napa for 36 years before moving to Elk Grove. While in Napa she worked for the Sunsweet Foods Company for many years.
Mrs. Stanley was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Stanley.
She is survived by her son, Larry Stanley and wife Sandra of Elk Grove; her grandchildren, Karyn Gardner and husband Scot and Christopher Stanley and wife Tricia; and her great-granddaughters, Kaylyn and Lauryn Gardner and London Stanley. Her first great-grandson, Brighton Stanley is due in June.
Mrs. Stanley was the sister of Eva Arnold of Dallas, and the sister-in-law of Catherine and Maxine Burns of Hope, Ark. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Private services are being held. Remembrances may be made to The Arthritis Foundation, 3040 Explorer Drive, Suite 1, Sacramento, CA 95827.
Arrangements are by South East Lawn Mortuary, Elk Grove.

Jeffrey Smithers
Memorial services will be held today (March 12) for Jeffrey Joseph Smithers, a 17-year resident of Elk Grove who died March 8, 2004 at the age of 47.
Mr. Smithers was born in  Washington and came to California with his family at the age of 7. He graduated from Archbishop Mitty High School in Santa Clara and received his Associate of Arts degree from Columbia Junior College. He then attended California State University, Sacramento.
His family commented on his passion for sports, both as a spectator and participant. His favorite team was the San Francisco Giants, but the Sacramento Kings ran a close second.
Mr. Smithers loved to play basketball and also participated in softball leagues from Little League through high school. He enjoyed bowling, especially competing with his mother-in-law.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Gail Smithers of Elk Grove; his children, Elisa, Abby, Katie and Valerie Smithers also of Elk Grove; and his mother, Miriam Smithers of Arnold.
Mr. Smithers was the brother of Jackie Tulloch and husband Roger, Miriam Little and husband Joe, Rick Smithers and wife Monica, Barbara Swick, Tim Smithers and wife Sandy, Debbie Ream and husband Jim, and Brett Smithers and wife Lynette.
Today's services begin at 3 p.m. in Elk Grove Funeral Chapel, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd. Interment is private.
Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1765 Challenge Way, Suite 115, Sacramento, CA 95815-5000.
