He was a Computer Engineer for Growers Ice Co.
Richard served in the Air Force in Vietnam.
He was an avid Oakland Raider's and Oakland A's Fan. And had a love of all things with Air Craft.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Johnnie Rhinehart of Salinas, son, Richard John Rhinehart of Orange, CA., sisters, Viola Reitz of Elk Grove, CA. Gloria Hampton of Roseberg, OR., Mary Fellini of Paso Robles, CA. and brother, Charlie Rhinehart of Ukiah, CA.

William "Bill" Chisum
October 8, 1926 - April 26, 2015

William (Bill) Chisum, of Salinas, California, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on Sunday, April 26, 2015. He was born on October 8, 1926 in Eagle Pass, Texas, and moved to Salinas in 1950 after marrying with his beautiful wife, Olga Chisum, of 65 years. Shortly after relocating to Salinas, Bill purchased and established over the course of 57 years, the well known company, El Aguila Foods. In addition to being an exceptional business owner, real estate investor and stock market enthusiast, Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many. He was a very health conscious man and loved taking long walks and bike rides through town, while listening to baseball games on his headphones. Bill also enjoyed traveling with his wife, Olga, to some exotic places such as Singapore, Rome, Australia and the Panama Canal.
William Chisum served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946.
William Chisum is survived by his wife, Olga Chisum, their four children, Bill Chisum, Jr (Connie), Russell Chisum, Pamela Mills, and Denise Blake (Buddy). Bill is also survived by eleven grandchildren, including Mallorie Mills (Josh), Michelle Mills, Sydney Chisum, Simon Chisum, Adam Chisum, Shelby Blake, Maizie Blake, Christian Blake, Savannah Blake, David Chisum and Bryan Chisum. William Chisum is also survived by a single great-grandchild, Sebastian Evoniuk. We will all deeply miss him.

Michael Donald Sewell

Michael Donald Sewell, 55, passed away of natural causes at home in Salinas, California on Tuesday May 12, 2015. He was born in Covina, California on September 6, 1959. Mike went to elementary school in North Hollywood and later moved with his family to Santa Rosa, CA. He graduated from Montgomery High in June 1977. Mike then attended Santa Rosa Junior College, Cal Poly SLO and Sacramento State where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering.
Since he was a child, Mike loved the outdoors and earned the Eagle Scout Award. He experienced camping and backpacking as family adventures. Mike also began his love for waterskiing with his brothers at the family cabin at Lake Pillsbury. He loved sports and played baseball, basketball and soccer. Mike started his career at San Joaquin County Air Pollution Control District in 1990 where he met Teresa Stuyt. In the fall of 1993, he married Teresa, the love of his life. Together they had two wonderful children, Michaela and Alexander. As a devoted husband and father, Mike's life centered around his family. Through his steadfast love and care the family enjoyed a happy and active life. If you asked Mike what he liked to do most, after providing for his family, it would have likely been water skiing at the end of a short rope racing across the wake of their boat. An accomplished water-skier, people stopped to watch when Mike made a run through the buoys.
Mike's caring was not limited to his family members only. He was someone who was always there to help, whether it be for his children as Vice President of the Salinas High Boosters Club, the homeowners group where he served as President, or for his colleagues at work as the Union Steward. Mike used his knowledge and sense of fairness to promote what was best for all. His unwavering principles placed him on a lifelong mission to right wrongs. Mike will be missed and was loved and admired by so very many family, friends and acquaintances.
Mike is survived by his wife Teresa, daughter Michaela (15) and son Alexander (9) of Salinas, his parents Joe and Linda Sewell of Santa Rosa; his brothers Steve and Janice Sewell of Rohnert Park, CA and Tim and Cathy Sewell of Windsor, CA He is also survived by aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2015 3:00pm to 9:00pm and Thursday, May 21, 2015 from 10:00am to 12:30pm at Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, CA 93901.
Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, May 21, 2015, 1:30 pm, at Sacred Heart Church, 22 Stone Street, Salinas, CA 93901. Reception to follow.
Graveside burial service will be held at St. John's Cemetery on May 22, 2015 at 11:30 am in Escalon, CA.

Joseph Bart Guidotti

Joseph Bart Guidotti, 82 of Salinas passed away Monday, May 18, 2015 in Salinas. He was born December 13, 1932 in Salinas, CA, where he was a lifelong resident.
He attended Watsonville High School where he was President of the Future Farmers of America. He served in the Korean War as a member of the 44th Combat Engineer Battalion, becoming a carpenter, which was his vocation.
Upon his return, he graduated from Hartnell College and began his career in the construction industry, where he held positions of increasing responsibility, eventually becoming a Project Superintendent. In this role, he oversaw many high profile construction projects in Monterey County, including Monterey Savings & Loan in Salinas, the Coca-Cola Winery in Gonzales and the Hyatt Convention Center and Hotel in Monterey, among others.
Mr. Guidotti was a lifelong hunter and fisherman. He also was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Salinas Elks Lodge #614, Ducks Unlimited, NRA, Monterey County Swiss American Club, Carpenters Local Union #605, and S.I.R.S.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Guidotti, mother, Mary Prola, brother, Milton Dale Purdum.
He was a devoted family-man and is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lorene Guidotti, of Salinas, son, Kevin Guidotti of Orinda and daughter, Valerie Mikkelsen of Salinas. He is survived by five grandchildren, including Scott, Olivia and Grace Guidotti of Orinda, and Amanda and Sarah Mikkelsen of Salinas. He is also survived by brothers, Richard Guidotti of Salinas, Clarence Guidotti of Prunedale, and sister, Gloria Brooks of Brentwood.

Ruth Virginia Crook
January 18, 1926 - December 14, 2014

Our precious mother, grandmother, Ruth Virginia Crenshaw Crook, went home to the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 14. Ruth was born in Watsonville, to Wiley and Sylvia Cunningham Crenshaw, on Jan. 18, 1926. The family moved to Salinas when Ruth was 2. She attended Lincoln Elementary, was in the first class at Washington Middle School, and graduated from Salinas High in 1943. Go Cowboys! She enjoyed celebrating their 70th class reunion last year.
Ruth went on to Hartnell College, and transferred to Cal Berkeley. Go Bears! She graduated with a degree in Chemistry/ Laboratory Technology. Coming back to Salinas, she fell in love with Bill Crook. They were married in 1948, and shared their lives until Bill's passing in 1993. Ruth worked as a Lab Tech at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital in its early years, and had a 25 year career in the lab at Natividad Hospital.
Ruth was a loving and devoted mother to Mary Jane and Jeff Crook. She was proud to be Mother-in-Law to Ronnie Choate, and Kim Tschumperlin. She enjoyed supporting all of her children's activities, sports, Boy Scouts, and Camp Fire Girls. When the grandchildren, Billy and Chris Choate, and Michael and Megan Crook, came along, she was thrilled! Grandma Ruth never missed a game, concert, recital, or school event. She was their biggest supporter and cheerleader! She passed on her love of sports ( Go Giants!) to all of us.
Ruth was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Salinas. She carried out her faith by doing and serving. She was an active member of many committees through the years, and loved her church family dearly.
Through the years, she was a member of the Salinas Chapter of American Assoc. of University Women, Salinas Women's Club, Cal Alumni Assoc., Friendship Club at First Presbyterian, and Active Seniors. She loved traveling with those groups to many destinations around the US, Europe, and China. Her favorite yearly activity was spending time with family at Pinecrest Lake in the Sierras.
Ruth is survived by her children and grandchildren, and numerous cousins. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at First United Methodist Church, 404 Lincoln Avenue, Salinas, CA 93901.
Shiro Higashi
September 25, 1928 - June 25, 2014

Shiro Higashi, 85, of Salinas, California, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital due to pneumonia. He was born on September 25, 1928 in Inglewood, California, and was the youngest of four siblings born to Goemon and Iso Higashi
After attending Brighton High School in Denver, Colorado, Shiro moved back to Salinas where he entered the family farming business. In 1965 Shiro and his brother George joined in a partnership with the Tanimura brothers to form H&T; Packing. Shiro continued a career in agriculture focusing on garlic and onion fields. After farming Shiro started a trucking company, Ajo Rey, to distribute across California
Shiro was an avid fisherman and spent many days on the Pacific Ocean with good friends coming home with many fish and many more friends awaiting at home for the fish fry that followed.
Shiro was also a pilot, poker player and loved to barbecue
Shiro filled his retirement with family, friends, and laughter.
He was without a doubt a determined and strong willed person and that showed through his unwavering commitment to his community. Shiro was an active member of the Buddhist Temple of Salinas, longtime member of JACL, Kagoshimi Kenjinkai, and recently awarded an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Salinas Ichiki - Kushikino City program. Shiro had a special place in his heart for the Sister-City program and loved the idea that we could build a bridge between Salinas, California, and Kushikino, Japan to teach our youth that the future of our societies was dependent on peaceful interaction and a growth of understanding and friendship.
Shiro was preceded in death by his parents Goemon and Iso Higashi and older siblings, Robert and Kazuko,
Shiro is survived by his loving wife of 31 years Mitsuko "Mitzi" Higashi his brother George Higashi, stepchildren Robert Couch (Carolyn). Joe Ann Feibusch, Carolyn Sue Couch (Dave), Sarah Patton (Cory), Shiro, was known to his grandchildren and friends alike as, "Pa" and is also survived by granddaughters, Jillian Feibush, Breanne Feibusch, and Samantha Couch, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends that will miss his sense of humor, generosity and tenacity.
Thank you to the caring staff at SVMH during Shiro's many stays, always caring and gracious. A special thank you to the loving care and support of his caregivers Ronald, Christina, Megann, Ann, Karina, and Leslee, you made his life richer with your kindness and laughter and he loved you like family.
