MaryBelle Defebaugh
July 25, 1941 - October 14, 2014
Resided in Salinas, CA
MaryBelle Defebaugh passed away peacefully at home on October 14, 2014 after a long illness. She was born July 25, 1941 to Manuel Foster and Mary (Madruga) Foster. MaryBelle was born and raised in Gilroy, California, and attended local schools. She met the love of her life, Michael ("Mike") Defebaugh while attending Gilroy High School; however they did not date until years after their graduation. They were married in 1967 until his passing as a young man in 1986. MaryBelle and Mike moved from Gilroy to Salinas with their daughter Monique in 1976, and MaryBelle resided in their family home in Maple Park for all 38 years.
MaryBelle is remembered by family and friends as being so giving of her time and many talents. She was always at someone's door with a delicious meal, inviting many over for holiday feasts, caring for friends in need, and befriending strangers who needed a warm smile and kind word. MaryBelle was very talented. In recent years she took to creating beautiful cards. She enjoyed this most because they could be given out to those she loved.
MaryBelle is survived by her daughter Monique Defebaugh (Tom Quinn) of Tiburon. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many loving and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Mike Defebaugh; her dear sister MaryAnn (Foster) Forestieri; her brother-in-law Placido ("Duke") Forestieri; and her parents Manuel and Mary (Madruga) Foster.
MaryBelle was a member of Sacred Heart Church of Salinas and most recently of St. Joseph's Church of Spreckels. She will forever be in our hearts as we remember her glowing smile and caring ways.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 23, 2014 from 4:00p.m. to 7:00p.m at the Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St. Salinas, CA. 93901.
Rosary will be Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 7:00p.m. at the Struve and Laporte Chapel.
Funeral Mass will be held Friday, October 24, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1 Railroad Ave. Spreckels, CA. 93962. Reception to follow.
St. Jude's was a favorite charity of MaryBelle's. Donations in her honor can be made at www.stjude.org.

Ronnie Joe Van Bebber
October 23, 1941 - October 12, 2014
Resided in Salinas, CA
Ronnie Joe Van Bebber, 72, of Salinas, California passed away on October 12, 2014. Ronnie was born to John and Maxine Van Bebber on October 23, 1941 in Comanche Oklahoma; he was the fourth of seven siblings. His family soon moved to Brawley California, where he grew up. Drafted in the early sixties, he went to basic training in Fort Ord, California and served in Germany.
Ronnie met his wife, Bobbi (nee Stafford), in a produce shed in Yuma, Arizona. They became engaged 2 weeks after their first date and married in September 1968. They just celebrated 46 years together.
Known for his friendliness and his fairness, he spent his career in produce.
Ronnie was easy to like and fun to be around; even taking a drive with him was entertaining. He was knowledgeable on many topics, always providing honest and animated perspectives on current events and history.
To his family, Ronnie is irreplaceable; dependable, supportive, loving, kind and patient. He liked to see everyone happy and was devoted to that pursuit. He and Bobbi enjoyed many hobbies and spent many hours - and years - creating and painting woodworking projects and working on their home. Every year he planned our family vacation, he has driven all over the United States with kids and grandkids in tow. Some of the best memories are of fishing and family vacations He also enjoyed travelling to Bobbi's horse shows where he would barbeque for everyone. He loved watching his grandchildren's sporting events, always there to cheer them on.
His loss will be felt forever by those who survive him, including his wife Bobbi Van Bebber, his son Brett ( Kris) and daughter Brenna (Adam) Linder and grandchildren Duncan, Malcolm and Janell Van Bebber and Quincey and Collin Linder. He is also survived by all his brothers and sister; John Mack (Alice), Gayle (Tommy) Brown, Thomas (Carolyn), Gene (Betty), Dean, and Rodney (lyn). He also has many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00a.m. Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, CA. 93901.
Reception to follow at The Grower's Pub.

William "Bill" J. Mahlman
April 14, 1961 - October 10, 2014
Resided in Gonzales, CA
William "Bill" Mahlman, 53 of Gonzales passed away suddenly October 10, 2014 at his family home. Bill was born in Salinas, April 14, 1961.
Bill was a happy go lucky man who enjoyed gardening, playing guitar, golfing, the 49'ers and his friends. Most of all Bill was a very loving and supporting dad who took great pride in raising his daughter Savannah, together they laughed and loved.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Art and Clarice Mahlman, paternal grandparents Clarence and Anita Mahlman, maternal grandparents Barney and Katherine Danini.
Bill is survived by his daughter and light of his life Savannah, his sister Denise Mahlman and companion Roxann Rivera.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday October 18, 2014 at Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel, 41 West San Luis Street, Salinas, Ca 93901
Inurnment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Gonzales Volunteer Fire Department, The Gonzales School District Music Program or a favorite charity.

Earle Francis Smith
January 8, 1929 - October 12, 2014
Resided in Salinas, CA
Earle Francis Smith, 85 of Salinas passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014. He was born January 8, 1929 in Providence, R.I. the son of Earl Francis Jones Smith and Marion I. Reels.
Earle served 20 years in the U.S. Army and retired as a SFC E-7. He did a tour in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. He received a Bronze Star among other acclamations during his military career. He was a member of the American Legion #31. After retiring from the U.S. Army, his career brought him to the U.S. Postal Service as a Supervisor for 20 years.
He graduated from Hartnell College earning an AA Degree while employed at the U.S. Postal Service.
Earle played several instruments, wrote and published his own music and was a member of ASCAP. His passion for music lead him to have his own music promotion company "Central Cal Music".
Upon retirement he enjoyed football (49ers), music, traveling and most of all gardening where he would spend most of his days.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Marie T. Smith of Salinas, daughters, Wanda A. Griffey of Jacksonville, FL., Brenda M. Walker of Houston, Texas, brother, Harold (Reba) Smith of Kingston, R.I., Sisters, Patricia Jeffries of Fiskdale, MA, Nancy (Mike) Bellows of Shrewsbury, MA., nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 1:00p.m. to 5:00p.m. Friday, October 17, 2014 at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, Ca. 93901

Leticia "Letty" Alma Hernandez
November 24, 1958 - October 11, 2014

Leticia "Letty" Alma Hernandez, 55 of Salinas passed away Saturday, October 11, 2014. She was born November 26, 1958 in Salinas, CA.
She is a member of Sacred Heart Church. She loved spending time with all her grand babies and family gatherings especially Sunday dinner. She welcomed everyone with open arms and considered you family from day one. Over the past 17 years one of her many joys was helping kids get fitted for school uniforms.
She is preceded in death by her parents Julian and Ramona Macias, father-in-law, Ramiro Hernandez, brother-in-law Antonio Hernandez, and sister-in-law, Betty Macias.
She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Alejandro Hernandez of Salinas, sons, Alejandro Rey (Jocelyne) Hernandez of Salinas, Julian Ramiro (Deanna Enriquez) Hernandez of Salinas, Gabriel Miguel (Maricela Rivas) Hernandez of Salinas, Damian Melchor Hernandez of Salinas, brother, John Macias of Salinas, sister, Marina (Jose) Martinez of Salinas, four, grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family would like Thanks to the Visiting Nursing Association, Hospice, Stanford Medical Center, and Corina Martinez (Niece for care taking).
Visitation will be held 1:00p.m. to 6:00p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, CA. 93901.

Dorothy Mae Clark
May 24, 1926 - October 5, 2014
Resided in Castroville, CA
Dorothy Mae Clark was born on May 24, 1926 in Paris, Arkansas to Edward and Clara Sears. She left us to be with the Lord on October 5, 2014. She was 88.
She met her husband Morris Clark right after he returned from WWII and they were married June 9, 1946 in Carson City, NV. They lived in San Jose, Fontana and Oregon before settling in Prunedale, CA with their 5 children, Wayne, Danny, Jeff, Clifford and Kathy. She retired from Green Giant after 20 years of service and spent her remaining life spending time with her family and husband. She loved to camp at the lake, go to Disneyland, vacation with family and have her family at her home for Christmas Eve every year. She enjoyed resale shopping, collecting antique items and sitting on her swing outside in the sunshine.
She was a strong-willed and resilient woman with a heart of gold. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Along with raising her 5 children she helped raise her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was the matriarch of 4 generations and she loved her family dearly.
She was a lifelong Christian and a member of Echoes of Calvary Church in Salinas, CA.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Morris Clark, her mother and father, Edward and Clara Sears and her ten brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her 5 children, Wayne (Dora) Clark, Danny (Phyllis) Clark, Jeff (Donna) Clark, Clifford (Carolyn) Clark and Kathy (David) Scharton and 19 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren and one more on the way.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 13, 2014, 1:30p.m. in the Echoes of Calvary Church, 1025 Post Drive, Salinas, CA. 93906.
Burial will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damien Way, Prunedale, CA. 93907.

Martin J. May
October 3, 2014 - October 3, 2014
Resided in Salinas, CA
Martin J. May, of Salinas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 1, 2014. He grew up in Anaconda, Montana, where he was born on June 25, 1929.
After serving in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, he completed an undergraduate degree in accounting at the University of Montana in 1955. While working for the federal government in California, he attended night school and received a law degree from the University of San Francisco in 1960. He met his wife Anita in San Francisco and they married in 1962. In 1965 he joined the law firm of Noland, Hamerly, Etienne, and Hoss and moved with his family to Salinas where he lived for 49 years. He became a partner in the firm and practiced law until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of the State Bar of California, the Knights of Columbus #1948, and Sacred Heart Parish.
He was a trustworthy attorney, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and an honest man who always took particular care to provide well for his family's needs and welfare. He loved to read and took special pleasure in studying geography. In his retirement he enjoyed hiking in Toro Park and spending time with his family. He was well loved and will be sorely missed.
Marty is survived by his wife of 52 years Anita; daughters, Joanne (Roger) Sherrard of Woodside, Maureen (Chuck) Felice of Salinas, Mary (Bert) Pronk of Boulder, Colorado; son Tom May of Salinas; and grandchildren Amy and Laura Sherrard, Julia and Joe Felice, and Alec, Erik, and Vincent Pronk. He is also survived by his brothers Don and Bert and his sisters Maureen and Kay who reside in Montana.
Rosary will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 7:00 pm in the Blessed Brother Edmund Rice Chapel, 919 Iverson Street, Salinas, CA 93901.
Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 1:30 pm in the Sacred Heart Church, 22 Stone Street, Salinas, CA 93901.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Central Coast VNA Hospice, P.O. Box 2480, Monterey, CA 93942.
