David Warren Cole
March 28, 1956 - September 21, 2014
Resided in Salinas, CA
Sunday, September 21, 2014, was a sad day. David Warren Cole, a man known and beloved by many, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 58. He was born March 28, 1956 in the City of Orange, CA and has been a resident of Salinas for 40 years. He attended Salinas High School, graduated from Palm Springs High School, and later the Arizona Automotive Institute in 1975.
Upon completion of school, Dave decided to settle in Salinas where he began his automotive career at Lugo's ARCO. In 1983, he ventured out with his business partner, Mark Lemke, to start what is now known as Valley Center Car Care. He took pride in servicing the automobiles of the community, and more importantly, enjoyed the fact that his business allowed him to make new friends and catch up with existing friends every day.
He met the love of his life, Debra, on her birthday in 1975. From there blossomed a love that lasted 37 years and a marriage that was blessed with three children. He loved being heavily involved in the lives of his children, from taking them camping, to coaching their sports teams, to helping them throw backyard circuses, to putting together costumes for any occasion. Over their lifetime he instilled in his children a strong desire to build the community they wish to live in and to always devote themselves to the aspects of their lives that they cherish most: friends and family, love and laughter.
Dave not only leaves behind a family that will miss him dearly, but a deep pool of friends that will feel his absence daily. Anybody who knew Dave knew that he would drop everything in an instant to help them out; he was MacGyver to many, a hero to some, and a best friend to others. His ability to let others into his life and give of himself is demonstrated by the six Au Pairs and over a dozen Salinas minor and collegiate baseball players that were fed, housed, and welcomed into the Cole family over the years in what came to be known as Hotel Cole.
The list of community organizations that he left his mark on is long, and simply listing them doesn't begin to measure the time and heart he devoted to leaving each and every one of them better than when he joined. Some of these organizations include: Salinas Police Reserves, California Rodeo Salinas, Steinbeck Elementary School PTC, Atlantic and Ferrasci Little Leagues, Water City Roller Hockey, Steinbeck Cubs and Tigers Cheer, Salinas Colts and Broncos Cheer, Salinas High Athletic Boosters, Sober Grad, Homecoming Floats, Salinas Bowmen, and Soledad Gun Club.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucy Cole.
David is survived by his wife, Debra Cole of Salinas, sons, Will (Lauren) Cole of San Jose, Matt Cole of Salinas, daughter, Allie Cole of Salinas, father, Tom Cole of Hollister, sister, Vickie Cole of Concord.
