Our beloved mother and grandmother, Guadalupe R. Garcia, 105, of Salinas passed away peacefully on Monday, September 8, 2014, in her home. She was born in Villa del Carbon in the state of Mexico on March 31, 1909.
She moved to Salinas where she made her home for the past 48 years.
Guadalupe was a devout Catholic and taught Sunday catechism for many years at Sacred Heart church in Salinas. She was a special and giving person who loved to spend time with her family. She was an adored housewife, mother and grandmother, and will be missed each and every day.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alejandro in 1998.
She is survived by her son, Lino, of Marina, and daughter, Mercedes, of Salinas, as well as 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 3:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. Monday, September 15, 2014 at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, CA. 93901.

Genevieve Ramos Vonnegut
December 1, 1911 - October 4, 2014
Resided in Salinas, CA
Genevieve Ramos Vonnegut, daughter of Raulin & Anna Ramos, passed into the hands of the Lord, Saturday, October 4, 2014, at the age of 102. Born on Lombard Street in San Francisco, she spent her early childhood on farms in Santa Maria and Lompoc.
When her family moved to Oakland, she graduated from St. Elizabeth's High School. It was there that she met her love, Alfred Felix Vonnegut. They lived in the USA, Canada and Australia; his career taking them all over the world. In 1974, they retired to Salinas.
She was always busy with kids, knitting, crocheting, sewing and canning but always tuned into politics, news and sports.
She was involved in extensive volunteer work, always wanting to give back to the community. During WWII, she was a United States Overseas hostess. In Chico, she was chairman of the Catholic Relief Society, president of the Notre Dame Guild, and a member of the Altar Society. In Toronto, she was president of a chapter of the Canadian Catholic Women's League. In Salinas, she was a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society and the Italian Catholic Federation.
Many awards included Campfire Girls Guardian of Fire, Exceptional Citizen by the California State Assembly, Lifetime Governor of the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, awarded by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. At 100, she was the poster person of the YMCA.
She was dearly loved by her five children; her sons Martin (Mary Jane) Vonnegut of Salinas and Raulin (Jeanine) Vonnegut of Gig Harbor, WA; her daughters Camille (Jerry) Brusaschetti of Seattle. WA., Susan Snelgrove of Vancouver, Canada, and Patricia Vonnegut of Salinas, 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, one great, great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She credited her longevity to her aerobics class at the YMCA, a little port at night, and chocolate.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am Monday, October 13, 2014 at Sacred Heart Church, 22 Stone Street, Salinas, CA 93901.
Burial will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery, 850 Abbott Street, Salinas, CA 93901

Harry S. Chong
July 30, 1912 - September 4, 2014

Harry S. Chong, M. D., 102 of Salinas, died September 4, 2014, peacefully at home. He was born on July 30, 1912 in San Rafael CA of Soo and Pearl Chong. He graduated from San Rafael High School where he played football with his brother Arthur. Harry graduated from UC Berkeley where he was in the Cal Band and met Emma Dong his future wife. In 1938, he graduated from UCSF as a physician, practiced in Sacramento until WW II, when he served in the Army Air Corps as a Flight Surgeon. He married Emma Feb 1942. Returning to San Francisco after the war he trained as an otorhinolaryngologist, one of the first Chinese specialists. He moved his family to Salinas, practicing for 34 years. He touched innumerable lives, saving many in critical care. He devoted many hours to care of the poor at the County hospital. As a family man he was devoted to care of his five children, involved with their activities and education and enjoyed taking his children on trips. Harry was active in the First Presbyterian Church, fund raising for the new church and renovations. He loved his wife, life and professional companion, Emma, the first Chinese woman ophthalmologist. They practiced medicine in the same office. In their journey through life, they traveled to nearly every country in the world, visited every state, and saw every football game along the way. Every trip was planned by "Harry's Travel Agency ". As they grew older, needing help, he always said, "Help Emma, " concerned more for her. A civic leader, he was President and 62 year member of Salinas Rotary, the chairman of the Salinas American Red Cross, and Chief of Staff of Salinas Valley Memorial hospital. Near the end, he was ready to be with Jesus. He is there now.
Harry was preceded in death by his brothers Arthur Chong, O. D. of San Francisco, and Edmond Chong, O. D., of Stockton. He is survived by Emma, wife of 72 years, and sister Frances Quon of San Diego, children Byron (Flora), Donna (Gerald) Quigley, Wesley (Nancy), Gilbert (Diana), and Norman (Jane). Harry was a loving grandfather to Randy, Stephen, Monica, Dennis, Warren, Kathryn Quigley, Orchid, Emily, Jillian and great-granddaughter Jasmine.
Visitation will be held 3:00p.m. to 7:00p.m.Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, California 93901.
Funeral services will be held at Friday, September 12, 2014, at 11 AM, at the First Presbyterian Church, 830 Padre Drive Salinas California.

Agnes D. Tebo

Agnes D. Tebo, 99 of Salinas passed away on September 30, 2014. She was born on October 25, 1914 in Delcambre, LA.
She was a Caterer, sensational cook, seamstress, upholstery master, leather designer, housekeeper, and world traveler.
Agnes was a NAACP charter member of local chapter; founding member Culturettes Social Club; Catholic Daughters of America, Young Ladies Institute, Sacred Heart Altar Society, Phi Epsilon Phi Charitable Society, and Nation Association of Port Arthur.
Preceded in death by husband, Louis Tebo; daughter, Lisa Seals; aunt and uncle Roseanna and Joseph Boutte.
Agnes is survived by Steven Bradley, who was raised and loved by Agnes as a son;aunt, Mary Dronet, cousins Ethel Kelly, Audrey Boutte, Andrea Boutte, Leslie Banks, Ernest Boutte (Godson) and Eleanor Boutte, Mark Boutte, Marlo and Crosby Poston and their daughter, Dharma; many relatives in Louisiana, Texas, the Bay Area, and hundreds of friends and associates who loved her.

Mona M. Davis, 88 of Salinas passed away Saturday, September 6, 2014. She was born April 22, 1926 in
Burgsinn, Germany.
Mona was a Salesperson for 30 years at J.C. Penneys.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Davis.
She is survived by her daughter, Ellen (Art) Culp of Hollister, grandchildren, Leslie (Brian) Burdullis of Wilton, CA., Aaron (Erin) Culp of Atascadero, CA., great grandchildren, Allison Burdullis of Wilton, CA, Tyler Burdullis of Wilton, CA., Sydney Culp, Rory Culp, and Sawyer Culp all of Atascadero, CA.

Russ M. Hauschild, 50, of Prunedale, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014. Russ was born March 29, 1964 in Salinas.
Russ retired from the Salinas Police Department after 26 years of distinguished and exemplary service. He was an avid sports fan (49er's, Sharks, and Giants) and enjoyed being outdoors. He loved spending time with his family, friends, and caring for his animals. Russ had a smile for everyone and a heart of gold.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sue Hauschild, his father, Fred M. Hauschild, and sister Pamela Hauschild.
Russ is survived by his daughters Katie (Heath) Colbourne of Seaside, Sierra Hauschild and Tessa Hauschild of Prunedale; Sister's Susan (Darold) Nielsen of Salinas, Sandra (Brent) Hiller of Corning, CA, Melanie (John) Yurkovich of Sonora, CA, and Rosylan Bailey of Prunedale; Grandmother Beverly David of Salinas; and Fiancée Becky Goad of Prunedale.
Celebration of Life will be held Friday, October 10th, at 11 a.m. at the Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, CA 93901.

Russell Carlisle Abbott

Russell Carlisle Abbott, 58, of Salinas passed away in the evening Monday, September 22, 2014 with friends and family by his side. He was born, April 5, 1956 in Salinas, CA.
In his youth Russell was active in the Boy Scouts of America and attended Washington Junior High and graduated from Salinas High School in 1976. He was dedicated and hard working in everything he did. He returned to the valley in 1995 after his adventures had taken him to different parts of Montana as well as starting a family in Sacramento.
Once back in Salinas, Russell worked for Abbott Plumbing alongside his brother Al, then for Wharton's Linoleum. He then started his own carved carpet business making handmade rugs. In 2009 he applied and excitedly started working for California Water.
He loved spending time with his friends and family. He enjoyed camping and hunting and just being outdoors. He loved building things and bowling. He also volunteered his time at Young Life. Every year he would take a fall adventure south to spend time with his kids at Disneyland.
Russell was preceded in death by his father, Forster C. Abbott, and his mother, Harriett E. (Knowles) Abbott.
He is survived by his brothers: Steven F. Abbott (Paula), and Alvin F. Abbott (Loleen), his children: Jessica M. Abbott and Josh C. Abbott (Jenn), and his grandchildren: Lucas C. Abbott and Leslee M. Abbott.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 1:30pm in the Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, CA 93901. Colorful Attire Preferred.
