Christopher Mason Gomez, 14, of Salinas, passed away after a long battle with Leukemia Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital with his family by his side. He was born August 18, 1997 in Salinas.
Chris attended Spreckels and Mission Park Elementary Schools as well as the Montessori Learning Center. He loved baseball, football and basketball. His favorite football team was the Minnesota Vikings. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and collecting old bottles with his dad and uncle.
He is survived by his father, Hector Gomez of Spreckels, mother, Cathlynn Mena and stepfather, Ronnie Mena of Salinas; sisters, Carissa Gomez, Maddison Mena; brother, Kasey Mena; paternal grandmother, Isabel Gomez; maternal grandmother, Judy Santiago; great-grandmother, Helen Cabrera; step-grandparents, Julia and Leonard Mena; uncles, Sergio, Victor, Mario, Tony, Joe and Matt; aunts, Jackie, Marisa, Natalia, Jessica, and Rannel; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 8, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas, CA 93901.
Rosary will be held Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Struve and Laporte Chapel.
Funeral Mass will take place Friday, March 9, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1 Railroad Ave., Spreckels, CA 93962.
Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 850 Abbott St., Salinas, CA 93901.
Lucille Scattini
May 5, 1918 - February 4, 2013

Lucille Scattini, 94 of Salinas passed away peacefully on Monday February 4, 2013 at home with her family by her side.
Lucille Muriel King was born to farmers Jimmy and Marie King at their ranch home on Molera Road in Castroville on May 5, 1918. She grew up on the ranch and attended local schools. After graduating from Monterey High School in 1936, Lucille attended Heald Business College in San Jose. She returned home to work in the office at Godden Motor Company in Salinas. In 1939 Lucille married Luis Scattini and they raised their four children at their home in Salinas. They were together until Luis' passing in January of 1983.
In 1989, Lucille married Robert Wilder and they were together until his death in 2003.
Lucille had many passions, foremost being her Catholic faith. She attended Mass weekly, said the Rosary daily and was a volunteer member of the Sacred Heart Church Altar Society. This instilled a grounded and honest approach to life and meant that she treated everybody with respect and dignity.
Lucille was also devoted to her family and showered each member with unconditional love and the example of industriousness and a positive attitude. This kindness was extended beyond her immediate family, as the Scattini house was always open to friends for casual gatherings and parties. Her family and friends also spent many summers at the Sycamore Flat cabin in Arroyo Seco, which she and Luis purchased in 1945.
Lucille's father Jimmy King started farming in Castroville in the early 1900's. She worked on the ranch and was proud that her husband, sons and now three of her grandsons continue that legacy on the same ground.
Lucille also believed in making her community a better place. She was a member of several charitable organizations, including: Entre Nous, the Young Ladies Institute, Notre Dame High School Parents Club, the first Pink Ladies of Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital.
Lucille had several hobbies, including golf, dancing, exercise, playing bridge and gardening. She and Luis were members of the Salinas Golf & Country Club and Los Amigos Dance Club. She also enjoyed supporting her favorite sports teams, most of which included members of her family.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husbands Luis Scattini and Robert Wilder; and son-in-law John Amaral.
She is survived by her sons, Jim Scattini (Joan) and Rob Scattini (Laurie) of Salinas; daughters, Marie Amaral of Salinas and Bette Jones (Rob) of Elk Grove; grandsons, Jim Scattini (Margaret), Brian Scattini, Greg Scattini (Stephanie), Doug Scattini (Jeanna), Michael Scattini (Julia), John Amaral (Mendy); Matt Amaral (Amy), Chad Amaral (Kiana), Luis Amaral (Ashley) of Salinas, Brent Scattini (Shannon) of Shell Beach, Steven Jones of Sacramento; and granddaughters, Sara Scattini of Salinas and Kacie Owen (Graham) of Sacramento; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 8, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas, CA 93901.
Rosary will be held Friday, February 8, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at the Brother Edmund Rice Chapel, 919 Iverson St., Salinas, CA 93901.
Funeral Mass will take place Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 1 Railroad Ave., Spreckels, CA 93962.
Burial will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Donations may be made in Lucille's name to Palma High School or the donor's favorite charity.

George Henry Schneider, 81, of Salinas, passed away August 31, 2013. He was born August 27, 1932 in Lee Co., Iowa.
George was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Prunedale Ward; United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 605; Carmel Valley Gem & Mineral Society; Salinas Valley Rock & Gem Club
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years in 2003, Carolyn JoAnn Schneider and his son, Daniel Robert Schneider who died as a child in 1957.
George is survived by his sons, George Henry Schneider Jr of Salinas, CA, David Andrew Schneider of San Jose CA, Robert John Schneider of Janesville WI, Randal Paul Schneider of Salinas, CA; daughters, Catherine JoAnn Bearden of Castroville CA, Theresa Lynn Hansen of Provo UT, and Tammy Ann Starley of Orem UT; 18 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 3 on the way.
Visitation will be held Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1024 Noche Buena, Seaside, CA 93955.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Military honors will follow.
Burial will take place at the Greenwood Cemetery in Burlington, IA.

Alice T. Bassi, 84, died on Friday at the Salinas Care Center
She was a Homemaker and also a past member of the Grey Ladies, Fort Ord Chapter, Longtime member of the Democratic Party, former resident of Watsonville and Aromas.
She enjoyed gardening and reading; her reading gave her a wealth of knowledge over the years.

Margaret Lorraine Barnes McKeever

Margaret Lorraine Barnes McKeever 96, of Watsonville passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2014 in the presence of her family. She was born February 16, 1918 in Athens, IL. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence McKeever, and her brothers, Don Barnes, Cecil Barnes, Linniel Barnes, and Lehman Barnes. She is survived by her only child and son, Lyall (Lynne) McKeever of Salinas, granddaughters, Rachel (Randie) Taylor of Novato, CA., Lauren McKeever of Studio City, CA., and great granddaughter, Remi Taylor of Novato, CA.
As a child, Margaret moved with her family to Oakland, CA where she attended both elementary and high school. Following High School, Margaret worked for Pacific Bell Telephone as a long distance supervisor. At 21, she married Lawrence McKeever with whom she shared 59 years of marriage. Together they managed various properties over the years. After many years of living in Loomis, Oroville, and Modesto, they moved to Watsonville.
Margaret spent many years volunteering at the Salvation Army Thrift Store in Watsonville. She was also very active in her residential community and enjoyed spending time with and talking to her friends and family. She was very outgoing and never met a stranger.
At Margaret's request no services will be held.
