Elizabeth DeAngeles

A memorial service was held Friday at Harvest Presbyterian Church in Ceres for Elizabeth "Betty" Totten DeAngeles, 89, of Hughson. She died Dec. 19, 2004 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

Allen Mortuary, Turlock, in charge of arrangements.

Born Nov. 15, 1915, Mrs. DeAngeles was a native of Fall City, Wash., and lived in Hughson for two and a half years. She previously lived in Turlock for more than 50 years, Crows Landing eight years and Newman 12 years. Mrs. DeAngeles and her husband co-owned Pacific Tallow Works. She was a charter member of the 20-Ands of Turlock; a member of the Turlock and Ceres Rebekah lodges and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for more than 60 years; and a member of Ceres and Livingston chapters of Order of the Eastern Star.

She leaves behind two daughters, Sally Butters of Sacramento and Jan Beekman of Modesto; and three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sal DeAngeles.

Charles L. Fabbri

A funeral was held Monday afternoon at Allen Mortuary for Charles Lee Fabbri, 55, of Hughson. He died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2004 at his home.

Burial was private.

Born March 18, 1949, Mr. Fabbri was a native of Salinas and lived in Hughson for two years. He previously lived in Fremont for 50 years. Mr. Fabbri was an auto mechanic for Sears and worked closely with the California Bureau of Automotive Repairs.

He leaves behind his wife, Janice Fabbri of Hughson; two children, Jason Fabbri of Roseville and Annie Garamendi of Fresno; four stepchildren, Heather Brennan of Boise, Idaho, Alexis Norton and Megan Lillak, both of Hughson, and Amanda Lillak of Modesto; his brother, Tom Teixeira of Riverbank; his sister, Nicki Teixeira of Riverbank; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mary Fabbri.

Harbans Kaur

A funeral was held at the Ceres Chapel of Franklin & Downs for Harbans Singh Kaur, 74, of Modesto. She died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004 at her home.

Cremation was at Ceres Memorial Park.

Born June 10, 1930, Mrs. Kaur was a native of India and lived in Modesto for five years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Sikh Temple in Ceres.

She leaves behind her husband, Thakur Singh of Modesto; three children, Janjit Kaur of Union City, and Kurmit Kaur and Rajbinder Singh, both of Modesto; her sisters in India; and two grandchildren.

Luther D. Phelps

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Lakewood Memorial Park for Luther Douglas Phelps, 81, of Ceres. He died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

Lakewood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born June 14, 1923, Mr. Phelps was a native of Short, Okla., and lived in Ceres for 60 years. He was a janitor for the Ceres Unified School District.

He leaves behind three children, Mike Black of Mount Vernon, Okla., Ann Black of Ceres and Sherry Johnson of Modesto; and six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Edith M. Reavis

A funeral service is set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel for former Ceres resident Edith Mildred Parris Reavis, 87. The Sequim, Washington resident died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005 at Olympic Care and Rehab Center in Sequim.

Burial will be at Ceres Memorial Park.

Born Dec. 7, 1917, Mrs. Reavis was a native of Shawnee, Okla., and lived in Ceres from 1954 to 1999. She moved to Sacramento and then to Sequim in 2004. She was a homemaker and member of the Church of God of the Evening Light. Mrs. Reavis enjoyed reading, crocheting, Christian music and being outdoors, especially in the spring time.

She leaves behind three children, Bob Reavis of Sequim, Wash., Don Reavis of Turlock and Marquetta Reavis of San Diego; three sisters, Irene Belyeau and Lena Mae Parris, both of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Lucille Lynch of Dallas, Texas; and eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Robert Lee Reavis, daughter Marilyn Ewell, brother Russell Parris and sisters Lorena Magnino and Helen Stiffler.

Remembrances may be sent to the American Heart Association, 1710 Gilbreath Road, Burlingame CA 94010.

Lewis C. Sims

A funeral service was held Monday at Deegan Funeral Chapel in Escalon for Lewis Clemith Sims, 79, of Ceres. He died of natural causes on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005 at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.

Interment was at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Born Jan. 25, 1925 in Shreveport, La., Mr. Sims was a Ceres resident for 49 years. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1962 and worked briefly for Campbell Soup. Mr. Sims then worked at the Tracy Defense Depot and retired. With his son Robert he worked at Central Valley Propellers in Ceres. Mr. Sims enjoyed playing softball, fishing and gardening.

He leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Juanita Delores Sims of Ceres; four children, Lewis Clemith Sims and Robert Gerald Sims, both of Ceres, Virginia Lee Wilson of Grants Pass, Ore., and Sharon Elaine De Vries of Oakdale; his brother, Ned Sims of Houston, Texas; and 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Remembrances may be sent to the Escalon Christian Reformed Church, c/o Deacon Fund, 2203 California St., Escalon, CA 95320.

Rev. Melvin D. Thomas

A funeral was held Friday at First Pentecostal Church in Ceres for the Rev. Melvin D. Thomas, 66, of Ceres. He died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto

Burial will be at Carney Cemetery, Okla. under the direction of Ceres Chapel of Franklin & Downs.

Born Dec. 8, 1938, in Carney, Okla., Mr. Thomas lived in Ceres for 16 years and previously lived in Modesto for 17 years. He was the senior pastor at Bethel Tabernacle Church in Ceres and a longtime leader of the Modesto Police Department reserve force. Rev. Thomas was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God's Central California District Board and served as district missions director for Latin America. He led the Modesto police reserve unit for close to 30 years and was the unit's second captain.

Thomas was the department's longest-living reservist, starting on Feb. 6, 1973, and serving until 2000. He then returned as a volunteer for a year and a half.

Rev. Thomas also served in the Marine Corps Reserve.

He leaves behind his wife, Brenda Thomas of Ceres; his brother, Frank Thomas of Oklahoma; two sisters, Neva Lankford and Helen Sherrill, both of Bakersfield; and two grandchildren.

Goossenn Zwaluwenburg

Evins Funeral Home was in charge of private funeral services for Goossenn Van Zwaluwenburg, 74, of Ceres. He died Dec. 29, 2004 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

Born Sept. 29, 1930, Mr. Zwaluwenburg was a native of the Netherlands and lived in Ceres for three years. He was a machine operator for 20 years at International Paper Co. in Modesto. Mr. Zwaluwenburg was a member of Eastridge Community Church of the Nazarene and the Dixieland Jazz Society. He enjoyed music and dogs.

He leaves behind his wife, Nancy Zwaluwenburg of Ceres; four children, Eilleen Harris of Placentia, Cindy Harris of Turlock, Sherry Ward of Mountain Home, Idaho, and Dale Zwaluwenburg of Modesto; two brothers, Case Zwaluwenburg of Escalon and Jack Zwaluwenburg of Monrovia; sister, Lucille Walhoff of Artesia; and nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Remembrances may be sent to the American Heart and Lung Association, 1212 W. Robinhood Drive, Stockton, CA 95207.

A funeral was held at the Ceres Chapel of Franklin & Downs for Harbans Singh Kaur, 74, of Modesto. She died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004 at her home.

Jerry Keys

The McHenry Chapel of Franklin & Downs was in charge of arrangements for Jerry E. Keys, 73, of Ceres. He died of natural causes on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005 at his home.

Born Feb. 20, 1931, Mr. Keys was a native of Shamrock, Texas, and lived in Ceres for 61 years. He was a station agent for United Air Lines in Modesto for 31 years before his retirement in 1988. Mr. Keys served in the Navy.

He leaves behind his wife, Dolores Keys of Ceres; two children, Kathleen Ahlborn of Turlock and Mike Keys of Ceres; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Chesna Keys, and one brother and a sister.

Remembrances may be sent to Hospice of Emanuel, P.O. Box 819005, Turlock CA 95381-9005.

Laura I. Younger

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Lakewood Funeral Home for Laura I. Strawhorn Younger, 72, of Hughson. She died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005 at Brandel Manor in Turlock.

Born Sept. 11, 1932, Mrs. Younger was a native of Gramby, Mo., and lived in the Modesto and Hughson areas for 60 years. She was a certified public accountant and a member of the American Institute of Public Accountants and California Foundation of Public Accounting. Mrs. Younger enjoyed painting.

She leaves behind her husband, Robert Younger of Hughson; two children, Roger Younger of Modesto and Laura Tornquist of Turlock; her mother, Laura Strawhorn of Marysville; two brothers, John Strawhorn of Marysville and Robert Strawhorn of Los Angeles; and four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Remembrances may be sent to the California State University Stanislaus Foundation, 801 W. Monte Vista Ave., Turlock, CA 95382.

Joe C. Henry

Retired

Joe C. Henry, 89, died Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp. He was born on June 10, 1916 in Arizona and lived in French Camp for 31 years. He was in the broadcasting industry for 60 years as well as owning his own radio stations.

Mr. Henry is survived by his wife, Lorene Henry of French Camp; daughters, Joleen (Henry) Clark of South Dakota, and Janet (Henry) Van Antwerp of French Camp; sons, Terrill Henry of Waterford and Mark Henry of Stockton; brother, Lloyd Henry of French Camp.

Park View Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements. Services have already been held and burial will be private.
