Dorothy O'Connell

Dorothy Lorraine O'Connell, 86, of Fort Bragg died Saturday, Nov. 6 at Sutter Medical Center, Santa Rosa.

A native of Wagoner County, Okla., she grew up in Oakdale and was a resident of Fort Bragg for 15 years. She worked as a real estate sales agent as well as a professional seamstress. She enjoyed cooking and her family.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, George O'Connell of Fort Bragg; daughter, Carole Miyashiro and husband Rand of Redwood City; son, Dan of Bakersfield; brother, Darrell Todd and wife Shirley of Oakdale; sister, Virginia Cope of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren, one stepgrandson; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Marvin Cope.

Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 1 p.m. at Oakdale Citizens Cemetery.

Shirley Wendt

Shirley Ann "Sam" Wendt, 79, of Oakdale died Monday, Dec. 6 at Oak Valley Hospital.

A native of Arkansas, she lived in Oakdale for nine years. She was a homemaker. She was a member of River Oak Grace Community Church and Senior Water Aerobics Club.

She is survived by her children, Gilbert Allan of Mississippi, Roger Allen of Tennessee, Virgil Cullins of Texas, Carl Wendt of Morgan Hill, Susie Ayala of Upland, Lucy Hoffmann of Waterford, Jo Cullins of Washington; brother, Marvin Rogers of Louisiana; 22 grandchildren, including Michelle Cooley, Rica Allen, Micky Hauswirth and Jenny Rhodes, of the Oakdale/Riverbank area; and 35 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Starla Rinaldi.

Memorial service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 10 a.m. at River Oak Grace Community Church. No visitation.

Bette Larson

Bette Lorraine Larson, 78, of Oakdale died Tuesday, Nov. 30 at her home.

A native of North Dakota, she lived in Oakdale for 52 years. She was a telegrapher and Station agent at Great Northern Railroad for nine years, later working for Louis Rich Foods as a laboratory technician for 23 years.

She was a member of Community United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star - Knights Ferry and the United Methodist Women's Society.

She is survived by her husband, Bennett Larson of Oakdale; children, Bonnie Fogarty of Oakdale and Barbie Larson of Thun, Switzerland; two grandchildren, Brian Fogarty and Kelly Fogarty.

Memorial service was held on Saturday, Dec. 4 at Community United Methodist Church.

Remembrances may be sent to Community United Methodist Church, 1480 Poplar Ave., Oakdale, CA 95361 or Shriners Hospital for Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95817.

Larry W. Keith

A memorial service was held Saturday at Calvary Chapel of Modesto for Larry Wayne Keith, 61, of Ceres. He died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Born Oct. 8, 1943, Mr. Keith was a native of Terre Haute, Ind., and had lived in Ceres since 1992. He owned Modesto Contractors Supply and was a Navy veteran, serving from 1961-67. Mr. Keith was a member of Calvary Chapel of Modesto and St. Stanislaus Golf Club. He enjoyed duck hunting, fishing and golfing.

Mr. Keith leaves behind his wife, Linda Keith of Ceres; two children, Christopher S. Keith of Salida and Stephanie A. Compton of Irvine; four brothers, Kenny Keith of Terre Haute, Mike Keith and Dennis Keith, both St. Peters, Mo., and Jerry Keith of West Terre Haute, Ind.; two sisters, Becky Ramsey and Debbie Couch, both of West Terre Haute; and two grandchildren.

Remembrances may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 1604 Ford Ave., Suite 8, Modesto, CA 95350.

Oscar A. Branch

A graveside service was held Thursday at Acacia cemetery in Modesto for Oscar A. Branch, 81, of Caldwell, Idaho, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004 at West Valley Medical Center.

The Colonial Chapel of Franklin and Downs was in charge of arrangements.

Born Sept. 30, 1923, Mr. Branch was a native of Bennington, Okla., and lived in Caldwell since 2000. He previously lived in Modesto 50 years. Mr. Branch was a musician, and was a member of the Musicians Union and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Branch leaves behind his wife, Leila F. Branch of Caldwell; four children, Larry Branch of Los Angeles, Linda Rombout and Jackie Rose, both of Ceres, and Melodee Upshaw of Idaho; and nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Evelyn E. Hyer

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at First Baptist Church of Ceres for Evelyn Edith Leppard Hyer, 88, of Ceres. She died of natural causes on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005 at Golden Care Nursing Home in Modesto.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Ceres Chapel of Franklin & Downs.

Services will conclude at the church.

Born March 27, 1916, Mrs. Hyer was a native of Imperial Valley and lived in Ceres for 70 years. She was a homemaker who belonged to First Baptist Church of Ceres for 70 years. She was a member of California Flying Farmers with her husband Elmer. Mrs. Hyer was a 10-year volunteer at Western Baptist Bible College in Salem, Ore.

She leaves behind six children, Norman Hyer of Ceres, Robert Hyer of Fresno, Lester Hyer of Modesto, Janet Paton of Hutchinson, Kan., Nadean Oliver of Seattle, Wash., and Christine Brown of Salem, Ore.; her brother, Marvin Rackley of Nevada City, Calif.; and 12 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Hyer; and two grandchildren.

Remembrances may be sent to First Baptist Church Missionary Fund, North and Fifth streets, Ceres, CA 95307.

Linda K. Looper

A graveside service was held Monday at Lakewood Memorial Park for Linda Kay Looper, 56, of Modesto. She died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004 at Doctors Medical Center.

Born Nov. 5, 1948, Mrs. Looper was a native of Modesto and lived in Modesto for 34 years. She previously lived in Ceres for 22 years. Mrs. Looper was a homemaker, and was a member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting.

Mrs. Looper leaves behind her husband, Ray Looper of Modesto; two children, Brian Conner of San Diego and William Wilcox of Modesto; her mother, Bertha Phillips of Ceres; two brothers, Max Phillips of Modesto and Mike Phillips of Ceres; and two sisters, Judy Scott of Modesto and Jeanne Angleton of Ceres. She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Phillips.

Remembrances may be sent to the Stanislaus County Animal Shelter, 2846 Finch Road, Modesto, CA 95354.

Gene Wilson

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Lakewood Funeral Home for Gene "Pops" Wilson, 84, of Hughson. He died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004 at his home.

Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Lakewood Funeral Home.

Born April 11, 1920, Mr. Wilson was a native of Texas and lived in Stanislaus County for 64 years. He was a welder for Union Local 342 and a member of the Masons. Mr. Wilson served in the Army during World War II.

He leaves behind two children, Bill Wilson of Lafayette and Shirley Knox of Colecamp, Mo.; his brother, Emmet Wilson; two sisters, Modean Corley and Beulah, both of Morris; and four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wives, Mildred L. Wilson and Helen L. Wilson; eight brothers; and one sister.

John W. Mungle

Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Carter cemetery in Tuolumne City for John William Mungle, 80, of South Modesto. He died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004 at Doctors Medical Center.

Born May 20, 1924, Mr. Mungle was a native of Marston, Mo., and had lived in the Ceres-South Modesto area since 1989. He was an automotive machinist, working at the Carl Weiser Machine Shop and Ceroto Machine Shop. He also owned the River Road Mobile Home Park in Ceres from 1985-87. Mr. Mungle enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He leaves behind his sister, Janet Postell of Nevada City. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Mungle.

Clarice N. Scheeringa

A funeral service was held Thursday at Frisbie-Warren-Carroll Funeral Home in Stockton, for Clarice Nettie Scheeringa, 76, of Coarsegold. She died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 at her home.

A graveside service was held at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi.

Born Jan. 28, 1928, Mrs. Scheeringa was a native of Corsica, N.D., and lived in Coarsegold for four years. She previously lived in Hughson and Ripon. Mrs. Scheeringa graduated from Hughson High School in 1946. She worked at Sharpe Army Depot.

Mrs. Scheeringa leaves behind two children, Johnene S. Breshears of Dayton, Ore., and LaNeta F. Bryan of Coarsegold; her sister, Lila Wilson of Modesto; and three grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Scheeringa; and one brother.

Florence N. Harnish

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 7, 2005 at Valley View Church of the Nazarene for Florence Norma Harnish, 92, of Modesto. She died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 at English Oaks Convalescent Hospital.

Evins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born Feb. 18, 1912, Mrs. Harnish was a native of Peck, Idaho, and lived in Modesto for 90 years. She was a cannery worker for 47 years and a member of Valley View Church of the Nazarene in Ceres.

She leaves behind her daughter, Virginia Harnish of Ceres; and one grandchild and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Harnish; and one sister.

Remembrances may be sent to Nazarene World Mission, 3901 Whitmore Ave., Ceres, CA 95307.

Zaki I. Odisho

A funeral was held Friday at St. George Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church for Zaki I. Odisho, 45, of Modesto. He died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004 in Carson City, Nev.

Burial was at Turlock Memorial Park under the direction of Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Funeral Chapel.

Born June 18, 1959, Mr. Odisho was a native of Baghdad, Iraq, and lived in Modesto for 12 years. He was the owner of a windshield replacement shop for two years. Mr. Odisho was a member of St. George Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church in Ceres.

He leaves behind his wife, Katherine Odisho of Modesto; three children, Abraham Odisho, Merail Odisho and Edail Odisho, all of Modesto; four brothers, Isaac Odisho of Bakersfield, Edmond Odisho of Berkeley, and William Odisho and Joseph Odisho, both of Modesto; and six sisters, Sara Odisho, Rebecca Odisho, Elizabeth Odisho and Shamiran Odisho, all of Modesto, Peronia Youkahana of Arizona and Marian Odisho of Chicago.
