Richard W. Williams
Services have been held under the direction of the McHenry Chapel of Franklin & Downs for Richard W. Williams, 41, of Ceres. He died Wednesday, March 10, 2004.
Born Aug. 2, 1962, Mr. Williams was a native of Cheyenne, Wyo., and was a carpenter for Barbosa Cabinets. He was a member of Dominion Life Church.
Mr. Williams leaves behind his wife, Judy Williams of Ceres; two children, Shannon Williams and Jessica Williams, both of Ceres; three stepchildren, Leonard Williams of Turlock, Stacie McDowell of Atwater and Rhonda Herr of Hilmar; five brothers, Stephen Williams, Anthony Christians, Robert Christians and Thomas Olmos, all of San Diego, and Vincent Williams of Los Angeles; his grandparents, William and Aurora Rutkowski of San Diego; and eight grandchildren.

Luis A. Vega
A Mass was said March 10 at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Ceres for Luis Arturo Vega, 24, of Ceres. He died of natural causes on Saturday, March 6, 2004 at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.
The Ceres Chapel of Franklin & Downs is in charge of cremation.
Born Oct. 11, 1979, Mr. Vega was a native of Los Angeles and lived in Ceres for four years. He was a construction worker of new houses. He lived in Oakland prior to moving to Modesto. Mr. Vega was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church in Ceres.
He leaves behind his companion, Shanel Delain of Oakdale; his son, Luis Arturo Vega III of Manteca; his mother, Eva Quiroga of Ceres; his sister, Aracely Topete of Ceres; and his grandmother, Bertha Quiroga of Mexico.
Mary R. Souza
A Mass will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hughson for Mary R. Souza, 88, of Hughson. She died Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at Turlock Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Burial will be at Lakewood Funeral Home under the direction of Lakewood Funeral Home.
Born May 11, 1915, Mrs. Souza was a native of Arcata and lived in Hughson for more than 50 years. She was a cannery worker at Stanislaus Food Products for seven years. Mrs. Souza was a longtime member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. She belonged to the church's Altar Society, UPPEC 56, Teamsters union Local 748 and the Hughson Senior Citizens.
She leaves behind three children, John Souza of Hughson, Robert Souza of Ceres and Angie Brawley of Copperopolis; her brother, John Tosta of Hilmar; her sister, Dolores Damas of Hughson; and nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Souza, and three brothers.
Kevin P. Snyder
A memorial service was held March 9 at Lakewood Funeral Home for Kevin P. Snyder, 49, of Modesto. He died Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at Doctors Medical Center.
Born Aug. 16, 1954, Mr. Snyder was a native of California and lived in Modesto for 39 years. He was a carpenter. Mr. Snyder was an Army veteran, serving from 1973 to 1977.
He leaves behind two children, Kellen Snyder and Natalie Snyder, both of Ceres; two brothers, Michael Snyder of Waterford and Stephen Snyder of Modesto; three sisters, Noel Sibel of Empire, Dana Snyder of Washington and Kerry Ingham of Modesto; and two grandchildren.
Olive Scobel
A memorial service was held Friday at The Salvation Army for Olive Lozo "Nana" Scobel, 88, of Ceres. She died Saturday, March 6, 2004 at Memorial Medical Center.
The Colonial Chapel of Franklin & Downs was in charge of arrangements.
Born Aug. 11, 1915, Mrs. Scobel was a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and lived in Ceres for seven years and previously lived in Newark. She was a bookkeeper for 30 years. Mrs. Scobel was a member of the Ceres Senior Club.
She leaves behind three children, Patricia Comer of Modesto, E.M. Jon Scobel of Livermore and Peter Scobel of Fremont; two sisters, Patricia Jones and Rose Shaley, both of Canada; and 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest M. Scobel; daughter, Judith Scobel; two brothers; and two sisters.

Jewell Gipson
A memorial service was held Saturday at Sovereign Grace Community Church in Hughson for Jewell "Skip" Gipson, 46, of Modesto. She died Sunday, March 7, 2004 at Memorial Medical Center.
Eaton Family Funeral & Cremation Service was in charge of arrangements.
Born July 21, 1957, Mr. Gipson was a native and lifelong resident of Modesto. He was a landscaper. He was a member of Sovereign Grace Community Church in Hughson. Mr. Gipson enjoyed music and reading.
He leaves behind his wife Deborah Gipson of Modesto; two children, Jason Gipson and Rebecca Gipson-Flowers, both of Modesto; his brother, David Gipson of Modesto; and four grandchildren.
Helen C. Ensminger
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rosebank cemetery in Mulberry, Kansas, for Helen Clara Ensminger, 76, of Mindenpines, Mo. The former Ceres resident died of a lengthy illness at Barton County Memorial Hospital in Lamar, Mo., on Saturday, March 13, 2004.
The Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar, Mo., is in charge of arrangements.
Born April 8, 1927 in Ravia, Okla., Mrs. Ensminger lived in Ceres for many years before moving to Mindenpines four years ago. She was a homemaker and enjoyed Bingo games. Mrs. Ensminger was a member of the Mindenpines Church of God.
She leaves behind nine children, LeeRoy Ensminger, Barbara Casteel and Helen Stevens, all of Mindenpines, William F. Ensminger of Modesto, Jackie L. Ensminger of Berry, Vt., and Davis R. Ensminger, all of Ceres, Wanda Cotton and Linda Woods, both of Lebanon, Mo., and Nine Baggs of Baxter Springs, Kan.; her brother, George Jenkens of Los Angeles; her sister, Gladys of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and 22 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Mozelle I. Casey
A graveside service was held March 8 at Turlock Memorial Park for Mozelle Inez Fulbright Casey, 91, of Sacramento. She died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004 at Country Mansions. A memorial service was also held at the Turlock Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Allen Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Born Sept. 22, 1912, Mrs. Casey was a native of Mount Pleasant, Ark., and had lived in Sacramento since 2000. She previously lived in Turlock for 15 years, Hughson for 17 years and Delhi for 22 years. Mrs. Casey was an elementary school teacher and taught in Ballico and Delhi for 35 years. She was a member of the Turlock Seventh-day Adventist Church.
She leaves behind her children, Shirley LaRoche of Sacramento, John C. Casey Jr. of Newman and Gary "Pete" Casey of Delhi; sister, Zelda Chappell of Dinuba; and five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Casey.

Maria A. Quezada
A Mass was held Thursday at St. Jude's Catholic Church for Maria Amelia Quezada, 76, of Modesto. She died Sunday, April 18, 2004 at her daughter's home.
Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements and burial at the San Joaquin Catholic cemetery in Stockton.
Born May 22, 1927, Miss Quezada was a native of Irapuato, Guanajato, Mexico, and had lived in Modesto since 1987. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church in Ceres. Mrs. Quezada enjoyed gardening.
She leaves behind eight children, Sammy Juarez, Rebecca Quezada, Virginia Garcia and Jerry Beas, all of Modesto, Diana Rodriguez of Parker, Ariz., Lucy Nunez of Orange, Petra Villamar of Irvine and Christina Lava of Calipatria; her sister, Virginia Vasquez of Irapuato; and 27 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Adeline Lawrence
A Mass will be held at 11 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Adeline Rodrigues Lawrence, 78, of Turlock. She died Friday, April 23, 2004 at Turlock Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Burial will be at Turlock Memorial Park under the direction of Allen Mortuary
Born July 3, 1925, Mrs. Lawrence was a native of Turlock and was raised in Hughson. She graduated from Hughson High School in 1944. Mrs. Lawrence lived in Turlock for 34 years and previously lived in Denair for five years. She was a homemaker and had also worked as a lineworker for Puccinelli Food Dehydrating Plant. Mrs. Lawrence was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening and cats.
She leaves behind her daughter, Alice Lawrence-Salvadori of Turlock; and her brother, Anthony Rodrigues of Hughson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Lawrence; and one brother.
Kay M. Keller
Evins Funeral Home was in charge of private burial for Kay Marie Spears Keller, 55, of Ceres. She died Monday, April 19, 2004 at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.
Born April 19, 1949, Mrs. Keller was a native of Bolivar, Mo., and lived in Ceres for 45 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Keller leaves behind her husband, Kory Keller of Modesto; two children; Kimberly Liles and James Liles, both of Modesto; her mother, Ruby Hill of Danville, Ark.; two brothers, Robert Spears of Danville, Ark., and Don Spears of Dardanelle, Ark.; three sisters, Mary Newman of Stockton, Shirley Wetzel of Apple Valley and Sue Ann Dennis of Bolivar; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father David Spears.
Thelma L. Farris
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Lakewood Memorial Park for Thelma Lorene Garrett Farris, 79, of Ceres. She died Sunday, April 25, 2004 at University of California, San Francisco Medical Center.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel in Modesto.
Born June 17, 1924, Mrs. Farris was a native of Crandall, Texas, and had lived in Ceres since 1942. She was a homemaker and had worked at Tri Valley Growers for 30 years. Mrs. Farris belonged to Emmanuel Baptist Church in South Modesto.
She leaves behind two sons, Johnny Farris and Ronald Farris, both of Ceres; two sisters, Alma Glover of Empire and Maxine Bear of Modesto; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Monte Farris.
Cassie G.N. Cerveny
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. today at Ceres Memorial Park for Cassie Gaia-Nichelle Cerveny, 11, of Ceres. She died Thursday, April 22, 2004 at Memorial Medical Center from injuries sustained in an auto accident.

Born Sept. 5, 1992, Miss Cerveny was a native of Modesto and was a lifelong resident of the Modesto and Ceres area. Cassie was a sixth-grade student at Gustine Middle School. She enjoyed music, poetry and drawing.
She leaves behind her parents, Jack and Deborah Cerveny of Ceres; and her grandparents, Thomas and Suzanne Vengris of Ceres and Dennis and Patricia Moody of Pearland, Texas.

Miguel A. Arreola
A Mass was held Friday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church for Miguel Angel Arreola, 16, of Modesto. He was fatally shot at a South Modesto convenience store on Friday, April 16, 2004. He died at Doctors Medical Center.
Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements, including burial at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery.
Born Oct. 8, 1987 Miguel was a native of Manteca, and lived in Modesto all his life. He was a 10th-grader at Elliott Alternative Education Center. Miguel was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, and enjoyed fishing and music.
He leaves behind his mother, Rachel Garza of Modesto; two brothers, Jose Sanchez and Pedro Arreola, both of Modesto; five sisters, Vanessa Arreola, Valerie Arreola, Kassandra Arreola, Jazmyne Arreola and Isabel Gallegos, all of Modesto; and grandmother, Raquel Garza of Modesto. He was preceded in death by his father, Pedro Arreola.
