Beatrice Catherina

Beatrice Mozelle (Maxey) Catherina, 87, of Grass Valley died Tuesday, July 20, 2004.

A native of Clovis, New Mexico, she moved to Southern California at the age of seven and was educated in Santa Ana schools.

She married Joseph Catherina in 1934 and was a resident of Oakdale from 1962 to 2001. She was a homemaker and was active in the Oakdale Garden Club, as well as serving as a volunteer at Oak Valley Hospital. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting and swimming.

She is survived by her daughters, Joyce Slocum of Fernley, Nevada and Helen Sheffer of Nevada City; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, one brother and her husband.

Private graveside services will be held.

The Chapel of the Angels Mortuary in Grass Valley was in charge of arrangements.

Esteban Martinez

Esteban Zazueta Martinez, 47, of Riverbank died Sunday, July 18, 2004 at Doctors Memorial Center.

A native of Sinaloa, Mexico, he lived in Riverbank 20 years. He belonged to Apostolic Assembly First Church of Modesto.

He is survived by his wife, Josie Martinez of Riverbank; daughter, Priscilla Martinez of Riverbank; son, Nathaniel Esteban Martinez of Riverbank; four sisters and five brothers.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, July 27 at the Apostolic Assembly Church in Riverbank. Burial will be Lakewood Memorial Park.

Remembrances may be sent to Apostolic Assembly First Church, 917 Sonora Ave., Modesto, CA 95351.

Riverbank Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Jose P. Tafoya

The rosary was held Wednesday at Lakewood Funeral Home for Jose P. Tafoya, 55, of Ceres. He died Saturday, July 17, 2004 at his home.

A Mass was Thursday at St. Jude's Catholic Church.

Born Feb. 11, 1949, Mr. Tafoya was a native of Mexico and lived in Ceres for two years. He previously lived in Modesto for 28 years. Mr. Tafoya worked at Signature Fruit Co. Plant No. 1 as a supervisor for 21 years. He was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church and Teamsters Local 748. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.

He leaves behind his fianc/e and caregiver, Blanca E. Santana of Ceres; four brothers, Jesus Tafoya of Mexico, Antonio Tafoya and Sacarias Tafoya, both of Livingston, and Salvador Tafoya of Modesto; and three sisters, Teresa Tafoya of Mexico, Maria Tafoya of Livingston and Abigail Tafoya of Denair. He was preceded in death by one brother.

Anna Acosta-Dominguez

A funeral service was held Thursday for Anna Martinez Acosta-Dominguez, 74, of Ceres. She died of natural causes on July 15, 2004 at her home.

Burial was at Lone cemetery in Hayward under the direction of Mission Funeral Home.

Born June 2, 1930 in Denver, Colo., Mrs. Acosta-Dominguez lived in Oakland for 50 years prior to moving to Ceres 24 years ago. She was employed by Wilsy Foods. She belonged to the Salvation Army. She enjoyed traveling, camping and visiting friends.

She leaves behind seven children, Sharon Acosta of Sacramento, Nancy Acosta of Stockton, Shirley Acosta of Pittsburgh, Barbara Heredia of San Leandro, Nanette Acosta of Ceres and Jeanine Acosta of San Jose and Angel Dominguez of Oakland; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Armand R. Acosta.

Naomi T. White

A funeral service was held Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hughson for Naomi Tovey Ashby White, 89, of Modesto. She died Sunday, July 18, 2004 at Vintage Faire Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Eaton Family Funeral and Cremation Service was in charge of arrangements.

Born Aug. 9, 1914, Mrs. White was a native of East Garland, Utah, and lived in Modesto 52 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Modesto 1st Ward, and previously attended the Hughson Ward. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and crocheting.

She leaves behind seven children, J.A. White of Smithfield, Utah, Joel A. White of Vienna, Va., Lorn R. White, Linda Davidson and Sara Saso, all of Modesto, Eileen E. Minnick of Vacaville and Irene Johnson of Waterford; three brothers, Walter Ashby of Nyssa, Ore., Clifford Ashby of Chico and Chet Ashby of Oregon; her sister, Bessie Hendricks of Vale, Ore.; and 30 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alma J. White; children Clayton White and Evelyn White; and six brothers and one sister.

Remembrances may be sent to the Missionary Fund, c/o Bishop Stout, 20570 Lake Road, Hickman, CA 95323.

Charlene McHugh

Charlene Largent McHugh, 51, of Merced died Friday, July 23, 2004. Formerly an Oakdale resident, she was the victim of an automobile accident.

She had worked for Con Agra in Oakdale for 20 years.

Survivors include her husband, Allen McHugh; children, Terry Reed, Jr. of Merced, Laura Hernandez of Modesto, Wendy Reed and Amy Reed, both of Ceres; father and step-mother, Charles and Marilyn Largent of Oakdale; sisters, Kathy Burch and Susie Cogburn, both of Oakdale; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Aubra Largent.

Memorial services will be Thursday, July 29 at 4 p.m. at Bethel Assembly of God Church, 105 East G St., Oakdale.

Edward Juarez

A funeral was held Monday at Allen Mortuary in Turlock for Edward Juarez, 62, of Ceres. He died Thursday, July 22, 2004 at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.

Private inurnment was at Oakwood Memorial Park in Chatsworth.

Born Feb. 24, 1942, Mr. Juarez was a native of Van Nuys and lived in Ceres for one year. He was a press operator in Van Nuys and a security guard in Tarzana. Mr. Juarez enjoyed riding bicycles and yard work.

He leaves behind his wife, Thea Lane-Juarez of Ceres; three children, Danelle Juarez and Shannon Juarez, both of Northridge, and Michelle Rodriguez of Riverbank; two brothers, Tony Rodriguez of Maui, Hawaii, and Larry Juarez of Pacoima; and his sister, Joann Chavez of Pacoima; and three grandchildren.

Elizabeth E. Yerby

A graveside service was held Friday at Lakewood Memorial Park for Elizabeth E. Snook Yerby, 83, of Ceres. She died Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at Hale Aloha Convalescent Hospital in Ceres.

Born Sept. 21, 1920, Mrs. Yerby was a native of Arkansas and lived in Stanislaus County for 60 years. She was a cannery worker for 25 years.

She leaves behind her daughter, Rita Goodman of Modesto; and two grandchildren.

Donald F. Ferriera

A service was held Saturday at Turlock United Methodist Church for Donald F. Ferriera, 69, of Hughson. He died Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

Lakewood Funeral Home was in charge of private burial at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Born Sept. 18, 1934, Mr. Ferriera was a native of Turlock and a lifelong resident of Hughson. He was a partner with W.H. Breshears Inc. oil marketers for 13 years. Mr. Ferriera was a member of Hughson United Methodist Church and the Oddfellows Lodge. He was an Army veteran, serving from 1954-58 with the 11th Airborne Division. Mr. Ferriera volunteered at local schools. He was a 1953 graduate of Hughson High School.

He leaves behind his wife, Barbara Ferriera of Hughson; three daughters, Jana Mitchell, Julie Myers and Jill Silva, all of Hughson; his brother, Larry Ferriera of Turlock; and seven grandchildren.

Ernestina "Tina" Tizoc

The rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. today at Lakewood Funeral Home for Ernestina "Tina" Tizoc, 17, of Modesto. She died last week of wounds sustained in a shooting at Oregon Drive Community Park in Modesto.

A Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Jude's Catholic Church, Ceres. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Born Jan. 20, 1987 in San Jose, Miss Tizoc lived there 14 years before moving to Modesto. She was a junior at Johansen High School. Tina was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church, Ceres. She enjoyed dancing, and hip-hop and Spanish music.

She leaves behind her parents, Manuela Ramirez of Modesto and Eladio Tizoc of San Jose; six brothers, Eladio Tizoc Jr. of Modesto, Brando Tizoc, Ivan Tizoc and Eladio Villavicencio, all of San Jose, and Raul Ramirez and Juan Ramirez, both of Mexico; four sisters, Josephina Tizoc and Fernanda Tizoc, both of San Jose, Yadira Tizoc of Los Angeles and Rosalena Ramirez of Mexico; and grandparents, Rosalena Ramirez and Able Oveso, both of Mexico.

Michelle E. Crawford

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lakewood Funeral Home for Michelle Elizabeth Crawford, 38, of Hughson. She died Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at her home.

Burial will be at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Born Jan. 14, 1966, Ms. Crawford was a native of Kansas City and lived in Hughson for five years. She previously lived in Watsonville and San Francisco. Mrs. Crawford was an animal health technician for 15 years. She enjoyed animals and scrapbooking.

She leaves behind her parents, Stanley and Susan Crawford of Watsonville; her brother, Stanley Crawford Jr. of Watsonville; and her grandfather, Ren/ Blondeau of Arizona.

Remembrances may be made to SPCA, 4733 Yosemite Blvd., Modesto 95357.

Dolores M. Freitas

Homemaker

Dolores M. Freitas, 83, died Thursday, June 3, 2004 at her home in Ripon. She was a native of Drumright, OK, born on Nov. 6, 1920. She was a resident of Ripon since 1975.

Mrs. Freitas is survived by her husband, Frank Freitas; children, Don Davis of Stockton, Irene Pires of Tracy, Vicki Grogan of Corona, Cal., and Anita Kolman of Long Island, New York; siblings, Jeanette Reed of San Antonio and Ron Robertson of Duarte, Cal.; 14 grandchildren,16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Dolores was a homemaker. She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed traveling, computers and she also enjoyed fishing. She loved to visit and spend time in Arizona, where she was raised.

Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 8, 2004, 1 to 5 p.m. at Deegan Ripon Chapel. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, June 9 at 10 a.m. at Deegan Ripon Chapel, 111 S. Palm Ave. Interment will be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.

Remembrances may be made to the Community Hospice, 601 McHenry Ave., Modesto, CA 95350 or to the American Cancer Society, 1604 Ford Ave., Modesto, CA 95350.
