Rae M. Carpenella
A memorial service was held Friday afternoon at the McHenry Chapel of Franklin & Downs for Rae Marie Runyan Carpenella, 47, of Modesto. She died of natural causes Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002 at her home.
Born April 15, 1955, Mrs. Carpenella was a native of Glendale, Ariz., and lived in Modesto for 22 years. She was a homemaker.
She leaves behind her husband, Felix F. Carpenella of Modesto; her daughter, Jennifer Mills of Modesto; her parents, James and Elizabeth Runyan of Ceres; her brother, James W. Runyan Jr. of Ceres; her sister, Beth Ann Perry of Modesto; and one grandchild.

Patrick L. Daniels
Adair Funeral Home in charge of burial at Ceres Memorial Park for Patrick Lee Daniels, 38, of Tucson, Ariz. He died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002 at Northwest Hospital.
A service there is set for January.
Born May 30, 1964, Mr. Daniels was a native of Colorado Springs, Colo., and had lived in Tucson since February. He previously lived in Ceres for more than 30 years. Mr. Daniels was a 1982 graduate of Ceres High School. He was a retail store manager for several stores in the area. Mr. Daniels enjoyed fishing and hiking.
He leaves behind two sons, Richard Daniels and Tyler Daniels, both of Modesto; his parents, Vivian and F.M. "Dan" Daniels of Tucson; and four sisters, Stacey Crews and Dorothy Clark, both of Tucson, Pamela Mackey of Modesto and Bonnie Mathison of Klamath Falls, Ore.
Barbara Einfeldt
Barbara "Nana" Einfeldt, 60, of Waterford died earlier this month.
She was a native of Shafter, Ca. She was employed by Holiday Inn as a waitress. She enjoyed horseback riding, crafts and music. She was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church of Escalon.
She is survived by her husband, Karel S. Einfeldt of Waterford; sons, Mark Van Wye of Riverbank and Steven Sanderson of Modesto; daughter, Trina Sharp of Waterford; stepchildren, Sheri Einfeldt of Kingman, Arizona and Dave Einfeldt of North Dakota; brothers, Jim Reeves of Modesto and Bobby Reeves of Oregon; sisters, Sharon Davis of Modesto and Terry Tackett of Riverbank; 19 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son Bryan Van Wye, two brothers and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 26 at 11 a.m. at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Mike S. Harnden
Mechanic
Mike S. Harnden, 49, died Sunday, April 6, 2003 in Manteca. He was a native of Torrance, Cal. and was born on Jan. 21, 1954. He was a resident of Manteca for 20 years.
Mr. Harnden is survived by his mother Phyllis Bunch of Stockton; children, Valerie Vasquez of Ripon, Oleta Norton and Lela Norton of Manteca; siblings, William R. Harnden Jr. of Rescue, Cal., Deborah Keenan of Ripon, Dan Harnden of Alaska and Scott Harnden of Washington; and 1 grandchild.
Mike was a veteran of the United States Army. He was an automotive mechanic.
Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements. Services will be Thursday, April 10, 2003 at 2 p.m., 111 S. Palm Ave., Ripon.
Preston Mitchell
Tracy High graduate
Preston Mitchell died on November 1, 2002 in Willow. He was 22.
Mr. Mitchell was born on April 10, 1980 in Denver, Colorado. He was a resident of Tracy for 21 years. He was an assistant residential home painter. He attended Tracy High School. He was an avid collector of medieval swords and knives. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and camping. He loved to watch movies. He was remembered as a loving son, brother, and friend to many. He is survived by his mother Trina Mitchell of Sacramento; grandmother Ruth Clawson of Tracy, siblings Elizabeth Mitchell of Modesto, La'Shelle Mitchell and Christine Mitchell of Sacramento.
A service will be held on November 19, 2002 at 10 a.m. at Fry Memorial Chapel in Tracy.
Marilyn L. Olson
A graveside service was held Friday morning at Lakewood Memorial Park for Marilyn Louise Olson, 66, of Lakeside, Ore. The former Ceres resident died of natural causes on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003 at Lower Umpqua Hospital in Reedsport, Ore.
The Colonial Chapel of Franklin & Downs was in charge of arrangements.
Born Aug. 29, 1937, Mrs. Olson was a native of Defiance, Ohio, and lived in Ceres prior to moving to Lakeside nine years ago. She was a teacher's aide at John F. Kennedy School in Ceres for 20 years.
She leaves behind her husband, Richard Olson of Lakeside, Ore.; five children, Larry Stone of Don Pedro, Tamara Stone and Kelly Smith, both of Turlock, and Alisa Tate and Tina Olson, both of Ceres; three brothers, Jake Hohenberger and Mike Hohenberger, both of Don Pedro, and Tommy Hohenberger of Colorado; and nine grandchildren.
Shirley M. Page
Ceres resident Shirley M. Page, the youngest child of the woman whose image became a world famous icon of the Great Depression, has died at the age of 61. Mrs. Page died of a lengthy illness at her home Wednesday.
Mrs. Page was the daughter of Florence Hill Thompson, who was photographed in 1936 by government-hired Dorothea Lange. The photo became known as "the Migrant Mother" which ultimately was placed on a stamp.
The photo was one of the most famous of a collection shot for the Farm Security Administration. It also made Lange, who died in 1965, famous.
Mrs. Thompson lived in relative obscurity for decades until she was located by a journalist. She died of cancer in 1983.
Page was born - years after the photograph was taken in Nipomo - on May 25, 1942 in Shafter. She lived in Ceres for 40 years. She graded meat at Louis Rich for four years, and had been employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Mrs. Page was a foster parent for special needs children. She enjoyed being with her family and cooking and camping.
She leaves behind her husband, Clarence Page of Ceres; six children, Sheryl Brady of Turlock, Michelle Juip of Stevinson, Wayne Vail of Empire, and Jonathan Webb, Kari Carr and Christie Carr, all of Modesto; two brothers, Jim Hill of Modesto and Charles Welch of California; two sisters, Norma Rydlewski and Katherine McIntosh; and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wayne Vail Sr.; son Shawn Carr; four sisters and two brothers.

Bernice F. Gomes
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Ceres Memorial Park for Bernice Frances Gomes, 74, of Ceres. She died of natural causes on Monday, Sept. 15, 2003 at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Ceres Chapel of Franklin & Downs.
Born March 22, 1929, Mrs. Gomes was a native of Tulare and lived in Ceres for 43 years. She was a cafeteria worker for the Ceres Unified School District for 20 years. The 1949 graduate of Tulare High School enjoyed going on cruises, home decorating, gardening, arts and crafts, shopping and spending time with her family.
She leaves behind her husband, James A. Gomez of Ceres; two children, Curtis Gomes of Ceres and Karen Campbell of Modesto; two brothers, Melvin Lucas and Joe Lucas, both of Tulare; and four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Myron Richards
The McHenry Chapel of Franklin & Downs was in charge of arrangements for Myron "Mike" Richards, 89, of Ceres. He died Monday, Sept. 8, 2003 at Hy-Lond Convalescent Hospital in Modesto.
Born July 14, 1914, Mr. Richards was a native of Hiawatha, Kan., and lived in Ceres for 32 years. He was a heavy-equipment operator and had worked for the Pasadena Streets Department for 24 years.
He leaves behind three children, Ernest Richards of Pasadena, Barbara Wilson of Hemet and Donna Bennett of Ceres; and eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, LoRee Richards; and five brothers and three sisters.

Gladys Tertrou
The rosary will be at 6 p.m., with visitation from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel for Gladys Marin Tertrou, 70, of Modesto. She died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003 at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock.
A funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the chapel.
Born Sept. 4, 1933, Mrs. Tertrou was a native of Havana, Cuba, and had lived in Modesto since 1992. She was a homemaker and member of St. Jude's Catholic Church in Ceres. She enjoyed collecting dolls.
She leaves behind her husband, George Tertrou Sr. of Modesto; seven children, Madaline Tertrou of Florida, George Tertrou, Jackeline Calderon, Maurice Tertrou and Gladys Freitas, all of Modesto, Jean Tertrou of Washington and Elizabeth Terrous of Las Vegas; her brother, Cezar Marin of Las Vegas; five sisters, Esther Marin of Modesto, Miria Marin of Miami, and Norelia Cano, Lucila Rodrigues and Olimpia Garcia, all of Pasadena; and 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Jean Oliver
A funeral was held on Tuesday at Lakewood Funeral Home for Jean Otwell Oliver, 68, of Hughson. She died Thursday, July 31, 2003 at her home.
Burial at Lakewood Memorial Park.
Born Aug. 19, 1934, Mrs. Oliver was a native of Arkansas and had lived in Hughson for one month. She was a meat wrapper for 30 years.
She leaves behind her husband, John Oliver of Hughson; two children, Jeannie Morris of Sunnyvale and Ruth Oliver of Riverbank; one brother, Kenneth Otwell of Sunnyvale; two sisters, Joyce Wood of Pinole and Clore Griffith of Peachtree City, Ga.; and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

James Strickland
James "Riley" Strickland, 73, of Oakdale died Thursday, March 25 at Memorial Medical Center.
A native of Oklahoma, he lived in the Turlock area since 1959 prior to moving to Oakdale in 1980. He was a truck driver for 30 years. He served in the US Navy from 1950 to 1954. He graduated from Hilmar High School in 1949 and was an avid horseman.
He is survived by his wife, Lola Strickland of Oakdale; children, Mark Strickland of Oakdale and Scott Strickland of Turlock; sisters, Donice Harris of Ceres and Pat Steed of Modesto; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dale Strickland and brother, Keith Strickland.
Celebration of Life service will be Wednesday, March 31 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at 10796 Workman Road, Oakdale.
