Edna Johnston
Edna Alverta Rinard Johnston, 85, of Oakdale died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002 at Memorial Medical Center, Modesto.
Mrs. Johnston was a native of Indiana. She lived in Oakdale 12 years. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Phelta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Red Hat Society.
Survivors include her daughter, Marita Wolfe of Oakdale; sister, Judy Mecker of Indiana; brothers, James Rinard of Indiana, Harold Rinard of San Diego; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral was conducted at Oakdale Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, Dec. 17. Private burial at Oakdale Citizens Cemetery.

Allen Fox
Allen Fox, 84, of Oakdale died Thursday, April 3, 2003 at Riverbank Nursing Center.
He was a native of Webber Falls, Okla. He lived in Oakdale for 50 years. He was a poultry rancher for 40 years. He served in the US Army during WWII.
He was a past master of the Oakdale Masonic Lodge receiving the Hiram Award, past worthy patron Order of Eastern Star, member of AAHMES Shrine Temple, Scottish Rite Bodies, past president of the Stanislaus Farm Bureau and was a board member for Nulaid Eggs.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Fox of Oakdale; children, Robert Fox of Oakland, Glenn Fox of Oklahoma and Pauline Ward of Oakdale; sisters, Violet Nevins of Oklahoma and Naomi Lingwood of Kansas; brother, Herbert Fox of Ripon; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Monday, April 7. Burial followed at Lakewood Memorial Park, Hughson.

Grantly Jackson
Grantly Allen Jackson, 79, of Yuba City died Monday, June 16, 2003 at The Fountains, Yuba City.
He was a native of Arizona. He lived in Yuba City for 29 years. He was a partner at Jaco Distributions for 15 years. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II in the Combat Engineers - 3rd Army, and was involved in the Ardennes Offensive.
He is survived by his children, Shirley Jackson of Novato and Joanne Henry of Henderson, Nev.; brothers, Glenn Jackson of Norco and Leonard Jackson of Modesto; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda "Lorraine" Jackson.
Graveside service was held on Friday, June 20 at Oakdale Citizens Cemetery. There was no visitation.

Maria Mendez
Maria D. Mendez, 73, of Riverbank died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003 at her daughter's home.
A native of Mexico, she lived in Riverbank for one year. She was a homemaker. She attended St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church.
She is survived by her children, Carlos Mendez of Mexico, Manuel Mendez of Los Angeles, Andres Mendez of Washington, Carmen Mendez of Mexico, Maria Munguia of Riverbank; sister, Socorro Alvarez of Mexico; 22 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Rosary was said on Thursday, Aug. 7 at Riverbank Memorial Chapel. Mass was said Friday, Aug. 8 at St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church. Burial to be in Mexico. Visitation was held.

Jean Frederick
Jean Beth "Jeanne" Frederick, 60, of Lake Tulloch died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003 following an 11-month battle with cancer.
A native of Wisconsin, she moved to California around 1955 and had lived at the South Shore of Lake Tulloch since 1969. She worked in the electronics field before becoming the owner/manager of Lake Tulloch Marina with her husband, Percy "Perk" Frederick. They retired in 1991.
Known for her great sense of humor and speedy wit, Frederick made a large impact on the lives of those around her and had a unique gift of making people smile.
She is survived by her husband, Perk Frederick, whom she married
on Aug. 22, 1969; children, Charlene Frederick, Ron and Robin Frederick, all of Oakdale; siblings, Bruce, Jan, Blake and Jill Nelson, all of the San Francisco Bay Area; grandchildren, Michael and Sarah Brown, Rhonda Frederick, Kenny and Dena Ferguson and Nicholas and Roni Douglas, all of Oakdale, and Lydia Frederick-Ketcham of Riverbank; and three great-grandchildren, Krystyna Solus, Mahala Douglas and Madilynn Brown, all of Oakdale.
A Celebration of Life memorial will be held on Friday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. at the Gladys Lemmons Senior Center, 450 East A St., Oakdale.

Buck Koepke
Buck Koepke, 68, of Oakdale died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002 at his home.
Mr. Koepke was a native of Nebraska. He lived in Oakdale 15 years. He worked in the auto body repair industry for 50 years. He participated in many Native American Pow Wows.
He is survived by his wife, Vanna Koepke of Oakdale; children, Steven McGuigan of Escalon, James Koepke and Victoria Bartels, both of Garden Valley; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Allen Koepke.
A graveside service was conducted on Tuesday, Aug. 20 at Valley Home Memorial Park. There was no visitation.

Fred Ulrich
Fred Francis Ulrich, 93, of Oakdale died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2003 at Oak Valley Care Center.
He was a native of Indiana. He lived in Oakdale for 83 years and was a 1928 graduate of Oakdale High School. He was a butcher for Port Stockton Meat Company for 25 years. He also retired from Continental Can Company. He was a W.W.II Army veteran.
He is survived by his caregivers, Susan Medley of Oakdale, Tom Barnell of Merced, Edward Ulrich of Arizona and Charles Ulrich of Oakdale.
Graveside service was held on Monday, Jan. 6 at Oakdale Citizens Cemetery. There was no visitation.

Syble Sherrill
Syble Irene Sherrill, 84, of Riverbank died Friday, April 4, 2003 at Memorial Medical Center.
She was a native of Oklahoma and had lived in Riverbank for 24 years. She worked at Oakdale Poultry for 25 years. She belonged to the Lee Ave. Church of Christ, Oakdale.
She is survived by her children, Duane Sherrill of Waterford, Gwenda Davidson of Riverbank, Richard Sherrill of Riverbank, Debbie Sherrill of Riverbank; sisters, Martha Lewis, Betty Johnson, Patricia Deaton, all of Oakdale; brother, James Moore of Oklahoma; 22 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her children, Mary Dodge, Scott Sherrill and Sheila Campbell.
Services will be held on Wednesday, April 9 at 10 a.m. at the Lee Ave. Church of Christ, Oakdale. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park, Oakdale. Visitation was held.

Joseph Vegas, Jr.
Joseph Vegas, Jr., 76, of Oakdale died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003 at his residence.
A native of Ripon, he had lived in Oakdale for 70 years. He worked as a truck driver for the dairy industry for 20 years in the San Joaquin Valley. He was a dairy owner for 20 years in Oakdale. Mr. Vegas was an army veteran of WW II and the Korean War. He was also a member of Teamsters #439 and a member of the VFW.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Hilda Vegas of Oakdale; children, Fred Vegas and Jim Vegas, both of Oakdale, Dan Vegas of Mancos, Co. and Mari Rossini of Modesto; siblings, Eva Olson and Alfred Vegas, both of Oakdale; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jeanette Kennedy, in 1998.
Private services were held.

Frank Grammer
Frank Joseph Grammer, 82, of Oakdale died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003 at Oak Valley Hospital.
Mr. Grammer was a native of Los Angeles. He resided in Oakdale for 27 years. He was a rancher and carpenter for many years. He served in the US Army. He also belonged to the Carpenters Union.
He is survived by his wife, Tillie Grammer of Oakdale; daughter, Sherry Akers of Oakdale; one sister and one brother.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m. at the residence of Frank Grammer. There will be no visitation.
