Juana Sanchez

A funeral was held Monday morning at Lakewood Funeral Home for Juana Guzman Sanchez, 62, of Hughson. She died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002 at Memorial Medical Center from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Burial was at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Born Aug. 20, 1940, Mrs. Sanchez was a native of Jalisco, Mexico, and lived in Hughson for 13 years. She worked at ballparks in San Francisco for 20 years.

She leaves behind her husband, Jose R. Sanchez of Hughson; seven children, Ernestina Briseno of Ceres, Emma Sahagun, Arcelia Sanchez, Yolanda Martinez, Erika Sanchez and Krista Sanchez, all of Vallejo, and Martha Atelano of Pacifica; her parents, Lucio and Martina Guzman of Jalisco; two brothers, Guillermo Guzman and Martiniain Guzman, both of Jalisco; five sisters, Victoria Guzman and Domitila Martinez, both of Jalisco, Tomasa Guzman of El Odia, Mexico, Maria Rodriguez of Pittsburg and Louisa Guzman of Cornejo, Mexico; and 12 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother.

Sherman J. Smith

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. today at Ceres Memorial Park for Sherman James Smith, 86, of Ceres. He died Wednesday, Feb. 26 2003 in Garden City.

Cunningham's Affordable Burial & Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.

Born Jan. 21, 1917, Mr. Smith was a native of Arkansas and lived in Ceres for 61 years. He was a farmer and member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Smith enjoyed fishing, gardening and farming.

He leaves behind his wife, Kay L. Smith of Ceres; his daughter, JoAnn Pride of Modesto; his brother, Dallas M. Smith of Modesto; and four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Guadalupe Valladolio

Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel was in charge of services and burial in Mexico for Guadalupe Verdin Valladolio, 71, of South Modesto. She died Sunday, March 30, 2003 at her home.

Born May 20, 1931, Mrs. Valladolio was a native of Atotonilco, Mexico. She lived in South Modesto 30 years. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church in Ceres. Mrs. Valladolio enjoyed knitting, sewing and cooking.

She leaves behind her husband, Jacobo Valladolio of Modesto; 11 children, Raul Valladolio and Yesenia Mendoza Valladolio, both of Modesto, Lucia Rivera of Ceres, Ramiro Valladolio of Escalon, Jose Valladolio, Javier Valladolio, Enrique Valladolio and Agustin Valladolio, all of Oxnard, and Jacobo Valladolio Jr., Armando Valladolio and Aurelia Valladolio, all of Mexico; two brothers, Enrique Verdin of Oxnard and Fidel Verdin of Aguascalientes, Mexico; three sisters, Domitila Verdin, Jesus Verdin and Socorro Verdin, all of Aguascalientes; and 36 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two children; and a sister.

Enrique Arriz—n Pena

A Mass was held Saturday at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Turlock for Enrique Arriz—n Pena, 87, of South Modesto. He died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003 at Memorial Medical Center.

Burial was at Lakewood Memorial Park under the direction of Whitehurst, Norton and Dias Chapel.

Born Aug. 5, 1916, Mr. Arriz—n was a native of Navidad, Jalisco, Mexico, and lived in South Modesto 30 years. He was a self-employed saddlemaker for many years. Mr. Pena was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church in Ceres. His passions enjoyed woodworking, gardening, music, reading and poetry.

He leaves behind by his wife, Christina Arriz—n of Modesto; 14 children, Alba Vanbeukhout of Belgium, Enrique Arriz—n of Salida, Oswaldo Arriz—n of San Jose, Mario Arriz—n and Cristina Correa, both of Modesto, Arturo Arriz—n and Ismael Arriz—n, both of Tijuana, Angela Arriz—n of Turlock, Patricia De Saracho, Norma Jauregui, and Juan Carlos Arriz—n, all of Chula Vista, Miguel Arriz—n of El Paso, Texas, Fernando Arriz—n of American Falls, Idaho, and Anna Melendez of Los Angeles; and 31 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Jos/ F. Arriz—n.

Janet M. Stephens

A graveside service was held Saturday afternoon at Lakewood Memorial Park for Janet M. Borem Stephens, 78, of Hughson. She died of natural causes Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002 at Memorial Medical Center.

The Colonial Chapel of Franklin & Downs was in charge of arrangements.

Born June 9, 1924, Mrs. Stephens was a native of Rushville, Ind., and lived in Hughson for 53 years. She was a homemaker and member of Church of Christ in Denair.

She leaves behind three children, Harry Stephens Sr. of Texas, Teresa Stephens of Colorado and Linda Madewell of Hughson; two sisters, Emily Sliger of Modesto and Dorothy Stephens of Yorba Linda; and four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, G.C. Stephens Jr.

Wanda I. Weifenbach

Eaton Family Funeral & Cremation Service was in charge private arrangements for Wanda Irene Hendrix Weifenbach, 48, of Modesto. She died of lung cancer Sunday, March 30, 2003 at her home.

Born Oct. 18, 1954, Mrs. Weifenbach was a native of Ceres and lived in the Modesto and Ceres areas all her life. She was a waitress.

She leaves behind her daughter, Angie Bremer of Klamath Falls, Ore.; her mother, Ina Kleinschmit of Gold Beach, Ore.; her stepmother, Shirley Hendrix of Modesto; three brothers, Steven Blevins of Oregon, Ronald Blevins of Modesto and Donald Blevins of Escalon; two stepbrothers, Johnny Hendrix and Jimmy Hendrix, both of Modesto; two sisters, Sherry Brace of Merced and Joyce Reed of Klamath Falls; and two grandchildren.

Remembrances may be sent to Community Hospice, 601 McHenry Ave., Modesto, CA 95350.

Frances E. Scott

A memorial service was held Friday at Sunrise Christian Church in Turlock for Frances Ellen Scott, 86, of Ceres. She died Monday, May 26, 2003 at Turlock Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Private interment was arranged at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Born May 22, 1917, Mrs. Scott was a native of Scappoose, Ore., and lived in Ceres since 1973. She previously lived in Turlock. Mrs. Scott was a member of Sunrise Christian Church in Turlock.

She leaves behind her daughter, Kathleen Eckle of Turlock; and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Scott.

Remembrances may be sent to Sunrise Christian Church, 1000 E. Monte Vista Ave., Turlock, CA 95382.

Anthony Vigil Jr.

A Mass was held Friday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church for Anthony Vigil Jr., 54, of Ceres. He died Saturday, July 19, 2003 at Memorial Medical Center.

Burial was at Acacia Memorial Park under the direction of Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel.

Born May 8, 1949, Mr. Vigil was a native of San Jose and had lived in Ceres since 2001. He was employed as a salesman six years and had worked at Home Depot's paint department. Mr. Vigil enjoyed Mexican history, antiques, cars, traveling and tortilla art.

He leaves behind his fianc/e, Elanor Lievanos of Ceres; his mother, Linda Dorado of Modesto; four brothers, Danny Vigil of Salinas, Richard Vigil of La Selva Beach, and Michael Vigil and Jeffrey Vigil, both of Modesto; and his sister, Genevieve Vigil Wensmann of San Jose.

Frances E. Templeton

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at The Rock Church, Modesto for Frances E. Templeton, 62, of Empire. She died April 14, 2003 at Memorial Medical Center.

There will be no public burial or visitation. The Colonial Chapel of Franklin & Downs in charge of arrangements.

Born Oct. 13, 1940, Mrs. Templeton was a native of Kingsburg and lived in Modesto for 57 years. She was a homemaker and member of the Order of Eastern Star, Smyrna chapter, in Ceres.

She leaves behind four children, Christopher Templeton of Idaho, Karri Templeton of Galt, Brad Templeton of Modesto and Elizabeth Lane of Oakdale; her brother, John Hall of Modesto; and 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmar Templeton.

Mary A. Shannon

A funeral service was held Monday at Mission Chapel at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward for Mary Ann Shannon, 83, of Ceres. She died Saturday, May 24, 2003 at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock.

Born May 2, 1920, Mrs. Shannon was a native of Fort Smith, Ark., and lived in Ceres for 16 years. She previously lived in Castro Valley many years. Mrs. Shannon was a retired retail clerk and enjoyed visiting Reno and Tahoe.

She leaves behind two daughters, Jean James of Livermore and Judith Overcash of Ceres; her sister, Shirley Callahan of Kansas City, Kan.; her brother, Eugene McGee of Sacramento; and five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Shannon.

Lois H. Webb

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5 at the Ceres Chapel of Franklin & Downs for Lois H. Webb, 73, of Ceres. She died of natural causes at her home on Thursday, July 17, 2003.

Born Sept. 26, 1929 as Lois Gorry in Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Webb spent 30 years in Ceres. She worked for the Ceres Unified School District for 20 years. Mrs. Webb started as a volunteer and worked her way up to office manager of Argus High School. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and cooking.

She leaves behind 10 children, Jeff Watson, Kevin Watson and Laurie Ward, all of Ceres, Tim Watson and Lisa Whittaker, both of Cleveland, Ohio, Kathy Maneri of Hudson, Ohio, Kristy Schoch of Charlotte, N.C., Scott Watson of Belmond, Ia., Kim Baker of Turlock and Brian Watson of Elmendorf Air Force Base in Ohio; her brother, Rick Gorry of Texas; and 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Lucindia Cowell

A funeral service was held Monday afternoon at Lakewood Funeral Home for Lucindia Cowell, 76, of Ceres. She died of natural causes Thursday, June 13, 2002 at her home.

Born Nov. 2, 1925, Mrs. Cowell was a native of Dardenell, Ark., and lived in Ceres for 36 years. She was a frozen food packer for John Engles for many years. She was a member of the Eagles Lodge of Santa Paula.

She leaves behind six children, Michael Austin Cowell, Kevin Lee Cowell, Cynthia Jean Rose, Claudia Kroeker and Julian Cowell, all of Ceres, and Shirley Looney of Edwards; two brothers, Everette "Hook" Parsons and Edward "Bud" Parsons, both of Lamar, Ark.; three sisters, Lucille Fetters Kloth of Visalia, Maxine Nordin of London, Ark., and Alma Galentine of Abilene, Texas; and 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Remembrances may be sent to Community Hospice, 601 McHenry Ave., Modesto, CA 95350.

Emolyn E. Matthiesen

A memorial service was held Saturday afternoon at United Methodist Church, Hughson for Emolyn Ellen Johnson Matthiesen, 81, of Turlock. She died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002 of injuries sustained in an automobile accident east of Keyes.

Burial was at Riverside National cemetery under the direction of Eaton Family Funeral and Cremation Service, Modesto.

Born July 11, 1921, Mrs. Matthiesen was a native of Clay County, S.D., and lived in Turlock one year. She previously lived in Hughson for a year. She was a commercial drapery designer. Mrs. Matthiesen enjoyed cooking.

She leaves behind her son, Erik J. Matthiesen of Ontario; two brothers, Vinton Johnson of Los Gatos and Fredrick Johnson of Pacifica; four sisters, Edith Johnson of Turlock, Mary Alice Monroe of Hughson, Virginia Looney of Lexington, S.C., and Ferne Gleason of La Selva Beach; and three grandchildren.

Remembrances may be sent to Community Hospice, 601 McHenry Ave., Modesto, CA 95350.

Jesus Garcia

A Mass was held Friday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hughson for Jesus Garcia, 78, of Ceres. He died of natural causes Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002 at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock.

Burial was at Lakewood Memorial Park under the direction of Allen Mortuary.

Born Dec. 26, 1923, Mr. Garcia was a native of Jalisco, Mexico, and lived in Ceres for 10 years and in Stanislaus County since the 1970s. He was a farmworker for Montpellier Orchard Co.

He leaves behind eight children, Perfeuto Garcia of Jalisco, Josefina Correa of Livingston, Enrique Garcia, Alfredo Garcia and Leticia Vargas, all of Ceres, Miguel Garcia of Modesto, Celia Martinez of Denair and Javier Garcia of Hughson; two sisters, Natilia Padilla and Petra Padilla, both of Jalisco; and 24 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Garcia.
