Mr. Jess Gallardo, Age 65, a native of Santa Monica, Michoacan MX, a former resident of Mendota, CA and a resident of Madera, CA for 40 years passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at a hospital in Modesto. He was a grounds keeper for the Madera Cemetery District for 30 years retiring in 1999. Jess was a member of the Filadelfia Church in Madera where he was an active member.
Jess was preceded in death by his daughter, Rosie DeLeon, sister: Veila Delgado, and 3 brothers: David, Luis and John Gallardo.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years Francis Gallardo of Madera, CA. 4 children: Elizabeth Mares and her husband Sam of Madera, CA; Corrina Gallardo of Fresno, CA; Maynor Escobar and his wife Lilly of Madera, CA & Fernando Escobar and his wife Maribel of Madera, CA. 4 brothers: Robert & Raymond Gallardo both of Madera, CA; Frank Gallardo of Kerman, CA and Lorenzo Gallardo of Mendota, CA. 1 sister: Lupe Moreno of Madera, CA. He was the grandfather of 18 and great-grandfather of 3.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 18, 2005 from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Jay Chapel in Madera. Funeral Services will be on Friday, August 19, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. at Jay Chapel. Interment will follow at Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera.

Martha Low, age 74, a native of Lee County, AR and a resident of Madera, CA for 51 years passed away Friday, August 19, 2005 at a Fresno hospital. Martha was a homemaker and was involved with the Madera Senior Center. She enjoyed camping and playing Bingo.
Martha is survived by her mother Jessie May of Arkansas, her seven children, Helen Antram of Roosevelt, UT, Norman Carter of Madera, Patricia Ballard of Bakersfield, CA, Alice De Busk of Oklahoma City, OK, Smokey Carter of Madera, David Carter of Fresno, CA & Benny Carter of Madera, her brother Bill Hardin of Arkansas, and her two sisters, Mary Dandies of Madera, and Ella May Hall of Arkansas. She was the grandmother of 10 and great-grandmother of 14.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 22, 2005 from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Jay Chapel in Madera. Graveside service will be Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. at Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera.

Agnes Irene Leach was born
on September 29, 1915, in Eden Prairie, Minn. and passed away on August 20, 2005 in Vacaville, California where she has resided for the last nine months. Agnes was a retired secretary having been affiliated with the Fresno Grange Credit Union. A former resident of Fresno, she moved to Madera in 1959 where she resided up until her recent move to Vacaville. Agnes attended The 4th Street Church of God in Madera, and was a member of the Dixie Land Grange as well as a Life Member of the National Grange.
Always faithful to the Lord, she was full of wisdom and love, touching those that knew her. She was devotedly loved by her family and will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband Willis Hammon Leach in 1978. She is survived by her eight children, Roy Leach of Mariposa, CA, Walter Leach of Vacaville, CA, Russell Leach of Fairfield, CA, Lee Leach of Norwood, Massachusetts, John Leach of Bakersfield, CA, Irene Ruiz of Vacaville, CA, Dorene Murphy of Madera, and Cynthia Ely of Lynnwood, Washington, her sister Lillian Hollenbeck of Minnesota, and sister-in-law Frieda Leach of Santa Cruz, CA. She is the beloved grandmother of 14 and great-grandmother of eight.
Visitation is Wednesday, August 24, 2005 from 2 to 8 PM in Jay Chapel of Madera, and on Thursday, August 25, 2005 from 8AM to 12 Noon, with a Funeral Service at 1 PM in Jay Chapel. Rev. Bruce Steffensen of New Life Christian Fellowship in Mariposa, CA will officiate. Interment will follow in Belmont Memorial Park in Fresno.

Nestor E. Mendoza, of Madera passed away early morning August 21, 2005 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fresno, CA. due to heart failure, at the age of 86. Born in Merced, Nestor attended St. Joachim’s elementary school and local Madera schools. While in the Army during WW II and teaching mechanics to soldiers Nestor married Verline Freeman. He later moved to Hayward, CA. and worked for Ameron Pipe as mechanic supervisor for over 30 years. Nestor rode Harley motorcycles for many years. He and his wife enjoyed 64 years together traveling in their motorhomes or cruising the Delta waterways in their steelcraft boat. Nestor was a member of the Mechanics Union for 48 years.
Nestor is survived by his wife Verline, daughter Brent Erwin of Madera, son Dan Mendoza of Sonora, Grandfather of Erwin Martin and Mckenzie Erwin, Michael Mendoza, Brian Mendoza, James Mendoza, and Great Grandfather of Corey Martin.
A funeral service will be Friday, August 26, 2005 at 10 AM at Jay Chapel in Madera, Veteran’s Honors and interment will follow in Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera.
Anselmo Joaquin “A.J.” Preciado

Anselmo Joaquin “A.J.” Preciado, age 84, a longtime resident of Madera, CA died Monday, August 22, 2005 at his home. A.J. Preciado was born
on March 8, 1921 in Visalia, CA and grew up on his dad’s ranch in Ripperdan, CA. After graduating from Madera High School in 1938, A.J. worked with his uncle Henry in the management of his three movie theaters. On December 8, 1941, A.J. enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force. He attended officer’s candidate school in Florida and attained the rank of Captain. While stationed in Rome, NY, he met Mary O’Malley of Brooklyn. They married on April 29, 1946. During the Korean Conflict, A.J. was stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany and escorted U.S.O. shows to air force bases throughout Europe and North Africa. In 1955 A.J. accepted a position with the California State Employment Department retiring in 1985. During his retirement, A.J. kept busy working part-time and volunteering for various organizations, most recently for the Madera Community Hospital. A.J. was especially proud of his family’s heritage as California pioneers who had traveled north from Mexico in 1848. A.J. sought to lead a life of purpose and tried to help others as best he could. He left his family a rich and enduring legacy:
Faith in God, service to others, diligence in work, and pride in home and family.
A.J. is survived by his daughter Kathleen of Cambria, CA; his daughter Dolores and her husband Ralph Schreiber of North Fork, CA and his son Robert of Madera. He is also survived by his three cherished granddaughters, Sarah Elizabeth Schreiber of Modesto, Kimberly Charlotte Mary Schreiber of Stockton, CA and Rita Elizabeth Preciado of Cambria. A.J.’s wife Mary, to whom he was devoted in sickness and in health, died November 21, 2004. A.J.’s brother and sister-in-law Rudy and Dee Preciado died in December, 2003.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2005 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Jay Chapel in Madera. A Rosary will be recited on Friday, August 26, 2005 at 12 Noon at Jay Chapel followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 P.M. at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Madera. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Madera.

Ascencion L. Simental, better known as “George” or “Chon” passed away suddenly at his Madera residence on Sunday, August 21, 2005 at the age of 84. A native of Mexico, George has made his home in Madera since 1934, where he retired from Berry Construction Company as a Carpenter. During WW II George served in the United States Army, serving in the European Theater in Italy, where he was a highly decorated soldier. In Madera he was a life member of V.F.W. Post 1981 and it’s funeral honor’s detail. In his leisure time George enjoyed participation in a Madera bowling league.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis in 1956, and by a son Ascencion H. Simental Jr., and by a brother and 3 sisters.
George is survived by his loving companion of 20 years, Teresa Webb of Madera, his children, Mike H. Simental of Madera, Susan H. Caballero of Benica, CA. Lorraine Simental of Sierra Vista, AZ. Christina S. Carrillo of Los Angeles, Step-daughters Lilly Muniz of Riverside, CA. Rosemary Jones, Lydia M. Smith, Laura A. Weekes, Step-son Samuel James Walter Jr. and by 21 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, a 1 great great grandchild.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 25, 2005 from 2 to 8 PM in Jay Chapel with a Vigil Service at 7 PM in the Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 26, 2005 at 9 AM in St. Joachim Catholic Church, with Veteran Honors and interment following in Calvary Cemetery's veteran section.

Evaristo “Bobby” Hernandez-Gil
At the age of 21, Bobby Hernandez-Gil passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2005. Bobby graduated from Madera High School in 2002 and has been working as a Real Estate Agent for America’s Best Reality for the last 3 years. He was also attending Fresno City and Fresno State College. Bobby was an active member in St. Joachim Catholic Church.
Bobby is survived by his parents, Jose Sr. and Margarita Hernandez, his two brothers, Jose Hernandez Jr. and his wife Rosa, and Christian Hernandez, his sister Susana Ruiz and her husband Mario, all of Madera. Also surviving are his grandmothers, Consuelo Hernandez of Oakland, CA and Soledad Gil of Madera, numerous Aunts, Uncles and two nieces, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be on Sunday, August 28, 2005 from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. and Monday August 29, 2005 from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM at Jay Chapel in Madera. Vigil Service held on Monday August 29, 2005, 7:00 PM at St. Joachim Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joachim Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Madera.

Mrs. Thelma Fisher, 96, of Madera, California passed away on early Saturday Morning, August 27, 2005 at Madera Community Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Biggers, Arkansas, to William and Elsie Caldwell Gazaway, Thelma moved to Madera in 1947 where she has resided ever since. A homemaker, she also was a life long member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. In 1929 she married LeRoy Fisher who preceded her in death in October of 1978. In addition to her parents and husband, Thelma was preceded in death by a daughter LaVonne Knittel and by one brother and three sisters.
Thelma is survived by her children, Don Fisher and his wife Nadine of Visalia, CA, and Evelyn Ecker and her husband Ron of Madera, and by a sister-in-law Mrs. Cecelia Meker of Summit Ridge, Oklahoma. She is the beloved grandmother of five and great grandmother of five.
Graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2005 at 1 PM at Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera, CA.
