Aaron R. Gutierrez, 19, of Salinas, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, in Salinas after a shooting.
He was born icon in Salinas and was a lifelong resident. He enjoyed building model cars. His brother, Victor M. Gutierrez, preceded him in death.

Survivors: Parents, Men'o and Adela Gutierrez of Salinas; brothers, Santana R. Gutierrez, Ceasar R. Gutierrez and Bryan Y. Gutierrez, all of Salinas; paternal grandparents, Carmen and Guadalupe Gomez of Yahulica, Jalisco, Mexico; and maternal grandparents, Santana Rodriguez of Nochistlan, Zacatecas, Mexico, and Maria Rodriguez of Yahulica.

Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. today, Aug. 16, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Rosary: 6 p.m. today, Aug. 16, at the mortuary chapel.

Services: Final visitation at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at the mortuary chapel followed by procession to Sacred Heart Church, 22 Stone St., Salinas, for the funeral Mass at 2 p.m.

Burial: Following at Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Maria Luz Baeza DeMorales

Maria Luz Baeza DeMorales, 72, of Soledad died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at her residence.
She was born icon in Urlangato, Guanajuato, Mexico, and was a Soledad resident for many years.

Survivors: Sons, Salvador Morales and Pablo B. Morales Jr., both of Soledad; daughters, Guadalupe B. Gonzales and Juana M. Correa, both of Soledad; brothers, Miguel Baeza, Pedro Baeza and Rafael Baeza, all of Mexico; sister, Landa Bacza of Chicago; 25 grandchildren and 14 great-great- grandchildren.

Visitation: 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at Whitehurst Terry Funeral Chapel, Soledad.

Rosary: 7:30 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at Whitehurst Funeral Chapel, Soledad.

Mass: 10 a.m. Monday, May 21, at Our Lady of Solitude Catholic Church, Soledad.

Services: Soledad District Cemetery.

Ruth Freeman

Ruth Freeman, 93, of Ukiah, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, in a convalescent hospital.
She was born icon in Chicago, grew up in La Harpe, Kan., and lived in Napa for five years and in Salinas for 25 years. She was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Kansas State University. She enjoyed stamp collecting and playing bridge. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Freeman, and daughter, Stella-Anne Schulz.

Memberships: American Association of University Women and longtime member of Rebekahs.

Survivors: Daughter, Janet Freeman of Ukiah; son, Bruce Freeman of Nampa, Idaho; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services: Memorial services 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 25, at The Meadows, 1800 Atrium Parkway, Napa.

Placement of ashes: Tulocay Cemetery, Napa.

Memorials: Three Links Foundation, care of The Meadows, 1800 Atrium Parkway, Napa.

Arrangements: Eversole Mortuary.

Frank Furrer

Frank Furrer, 97, of Dos Palos, died Thursday, May 17, 2001, at his residence.
He was born icon in Andermatt, Switzerland, and came to United States at the age of 26. He settled in Santa Rosa, then moved to Salinas and worked at a dairy.

He left for San Francisco and owned a saloon and hotel at Clay and Kearny streets for four years. He then moved back to Salinas and started his own dairy business, which he operated for 30 years. He later owned and operated Frank's Hardware and a gas station in Prunedale from 1961 to 1972, before retiring and moving to San Juan Bautista, where he lived until 1998. According to his family, he worked seven days a week but attended church.

He was a member of Mission San Juan Bautista when he lived in San Juan. In 1998, he sold his five acres in San Juan Bautista and moved to Dos Palos for health reasons.

Survivors: Wife, Mary D. Furrer of Watsonville; daughter, Barbara Coelho (husband Steve) of Salinas; son, Frank Furrer, Jr. of Watsonville; granddaughter, Tami Massera (husband Paul) of Cameron Park; grandsons, Todd Coelho, Charlie Crane of Salinas; great-grandchildren, Mitchell and Amanda Massera of Salinas; and his caregiver and very close friend, Pearl Poole of Dos Palos.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Milligan.

Rosary: 7 p.m. Monday, May 21, at Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home.

Services: 9:30 a.m. Tuesday May 22, then go to Old Mission San Juan Bautista for a Mass at 10 a.m.

Burial: San Juan Cemetery.

Memorials: Donations to donor's favorite charity.

Rodolfo Marquez

Rodolfo Marquez, 63, of Salinas, died Friday, May 18, 2001, at Salinas Care Center following an illness.
He was a native of Guanajuato, Mexico, and lived in Salinas for 38 years. He was a field laborer for Bruce Church for 30 years.

Memberships: Local United Farm Workers of Salinas.

Survivors: former wife: Ramona Perez Marquez of Salinas; wife, Josefina Torres of Salinas; four daughters, Elizabeth Marquez of Salinas, Iris Marquez of Salinas, Dora Marquez of Salinas, Martha Marquez of Salinas; sons, Rudy Marquez of Salinas, Jaime Marquez of Salinas, Gaspar Marquez of Salinas; four sisters, Ramona Rios of Watsonville, Maritina Marquez Torres of Mexico, Socorro Marquez of Mexico, Consuelo Marquez of Los Angeles; 10 grandchildren.

Visitation: From 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 19, and from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 20 at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Rosary: 6 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at the funeral chapel.

Services: 9 a.m. for final visitation rites at the funeral chapel, 10 a.m. for mass at Christ the King Church, 240 Calle Cebu, Salinas.

Burial: At Garden of Memories Cemetery, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Robert Ray Turner

Robert Ray Turner died Sunday, May 13, at his home in Vacaville after a lengthy illness. He was 86.
He was born icon in Lavaca, Ark., and attended schools in Branch and Charleston, Ark. He moved to California in 1930 and lived in the Salinas area for more than 40 years.

Before retirement, he was employed as a master welder, carpenter and bartender. He enjoyed boat restoration and fishing and had a doctorate in philosophy.

Memberships: He was a member of the Richmond Eagles No. 354, Moose Lodge No. 550 in San Pablo, Carpenter's Union No. 152 in Martinez and the Bartenders Union in Salinas.

Survivors: Daughter, Bridgett Looper; sons, Robbie Turner, Bob Turner, Don Turner, Tony Turner and Jim Albanese of Salinas; a sister, Eunice Oster of Salinas; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services: Private.

Burial: Ashes will be scattered in San Francisco Bay.

Arrangements: Wilson and Kratzer Mortuaries, 455 24th St., Richmond.

Susan Kathleen Silver

Susan Kathleen Silver, 66, of Salinas, died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.
She was born icon in London, England, and lived in Salinas for 42 years, living in New York, then Los Angeles before moving to Salinas. She was the owner of the Corral de Tierra Children's Center from 1976 until her death. Many of her current students were children of her former students. She was a beekeeper and also raised desert tortoises, which she shared with her students. She enjoyed walking on the beach and was an accomplished ballerina. She was a graduate of Hartnell College with an early childhood degree. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, David Silver, on April 28, 2001.

Memberships: Chamisal Tennis Club.

Survivors: Daughter, Hilary Silver of Salinas; son, Adam Silver of Salinas; brothers, Colin Neale of Montreal, Canada, Robin Neale of Las Vegas and Ian Neale of Germany; sister, Rosemary Kolb of Massachusetts; and one granddaughter.

Celebration of life: 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at her home.

Burial: Private burial at San Carlos Cemetery, Monterey.

Memorials: American Cancer Society, 1184 Monroe St. Suite 1, Salinas.

Arrangements: The Paul Mortuary, 390 Lighthouse Ave., Pacific Grove.

Dorothy Margaret Weavel

Dorothy Margaret Weavel, 76, of Salinas, died of natural causes Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at Pacific Coast Care.
She was born icon in Buffalo, N.Y., and lived in the area for eight years. She was a marriage, family and children counselor for 30 years. She graduated from the State University of New York, Buffalo with a master's in psychology. She enjoyed ceramics, Indian powwows, playing the piano and beading. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mose, in February 2001, a great-great-grandson of Sequoyah of the Cherokee tribe.

Memberships: Alcoholics Anonymous.

Survivors: Daughters, Ellen Caron of Salinas, Gioia Frank of Fresno, Joan Luzier of Allston, Mass., and Jan McDermott of San Francisco; brother, Joseph F. Kock of Middleport, N.Y.; sister, Mary Lynn Green of Kenmore, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.

Juan Carlos Diaz

Juan Carlos Diaz, 19, of Salinas, died Friday, May 11, 2001, at his home.
He was born icon in Zinapecuaro, Mexico, and lived in Salinas for five years. He was a forklift operator with Sonoma Pacific Co.

Survivors: Parents, Alfonso Diaz and Leonila Gutierz Diaz of Mexico; brothers, Salvador Diaz, Jose Antonio Diaz, Jose Luis Diaz and Jose Waldo Diaz, all of Mexico; sisters, Soledad Diaz, Julia Diaz, Rosario Diaz and Esmarlda Diaz, all of Mexico; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Mass: 11 a.m. today, May 16, at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1702 Second Ave., Salinas.

Burial: Mexico.

Arrangements: Whitehurst Muller Funeral Service, East Alisal and Pajaro streets, Salinas.

Elvia Siguense

Elvia Siguense, 38, of King City, died of cancer Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at her home.
She was born icon in Cuto del Provenir, Michoacán, Mexico. She was a laborer with Basic American Foods. She enjoyed shopping, providing childcare and spending time with family and friends. She had a good sense of humor and always seemed to have a positive attitude. She was preceded in death by her brother, Francisco Mendez.

Memberships: Templo de Alabanza Ebenezer Church and Teamsters Local 890.

Survivors:Husband, Oscar Siguense of King City; son, Oscar Siguense of King City; father, Maurilio Mendez of Cuto del Provenir; brothers, Angel Mendez, Ismael Mendez, Camerino Mendez and Eugenio Mendez, all of King City, Jose Luis Mendez of Stockton and Efrain Mendez of Michoacán; and sisters, Elena Mendez and Blanca Mendez, both of Michoacán.

Evening service: 6 p.m. today, Sept. 4, at Templo de Alabanza Ebenezer, 1200 Broadway, King City.

Visitation: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Whitehurst Grim Funeral Chapel, 429 Bassett St., King City.

Rosary: 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 504 N. Third St., King City.

Mass: 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at the church.

Burial: Following at King City cemetery.

Earline J. Goodnight Carr

Earline J. Goodnight Carr, 69, of Pine Grove, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at her home.
She was born icon in Winn, Ark., and was a former Salinas resident. She was the former owner of Earline Carr Typesetting and Kambria Advertising.

She graduated from Salinas High School and was an award-winning watercolor artist.

Survivors: Husband of 30 years, Perry Carr of Pine Grove; sons, Michael Westmoreland and Daniel Westmoreland, both of Washington, and Timothy Westmoreland of Morgan Hill; daughters, Grace Carr Lee of San Jose and Janet Carr Scianella of Berkeley; brother, Doyle Goodnight of Washington; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: Memorial service 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the family home in Pine Grove, RSVP (209) 296-2232.
