Margarita R. Cruz, 100, of Salinas, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital.
She was born icon in the Philippines and lived in Salinas for 30 years. She was a homemaker.

Memberships: Madonna del Sasso Catholic Church, Legion of Mary at the church and Fil-Am Catholic Association.

Survivors: Sons, Benjamin (Leandra) Cruz of Salinas and Fernando Cruz of Manila, Philippines; daughters, Carmelita C. Arellano and Gloria C. (Arthur) Queyquep, both of Salinas; daughters-in-law, Rosie Cruz of Salinas and Fely Cruz of Manila, Philippines; sister, Felisa Mariano of Salinas; 18 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Visitation: From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 15, at Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Vigil service: 7 p.m. Friday, June 15, at the mortuary.

Mass: 8:30 a.m. Saturday, June 16, at Sacred Heart Church, 22 Stone St., Salinas.

Entombment: Following at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas.

Martha F. Ferguson

Martha F. Ferguson, 86, of Lodi, died of natural causes on Thursday, May 24, 2001.
She was born icon and raised in Salinas and attended local schools. She and her brothers and sisters worked on the family farm there. She later graduated from Linden High School.

She married Robert W. Ferguson on Nov. 17, 1956, in Reno, Nev. The couple resided in Bakersfield for 12 years. They moved to Salinas in 1968. Her husband died there in 1970. She remained in Salinas until 1986, when she moved to Lodi.

She lived in Salinas and Lodi during the 1940s, in Bakersfield in 1955, Salinas in 1968 and Lodi in 1986. She had moved to Lodi in the 1940s, where she sold real estate for a few years. She later was a co-owner of a nursery business in Salinas for about five years.

She was a charter member of Women of the Moose in Lodi. She was also a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church since March 1990. She loved gardening, was an excellent cook and enjoyed walking.

Survivors: Stepdaughter, Shirley Nelson of Klamath Falls, Ore.; a brother, Welling Gates of Pacific Grove; two sisters, Evelyne Rasmossen of Yuba City and Marguerite Laswell, both of San Andreas; and two step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Ferguson and three sisters, Maria Gates, Eileen Hirtle and Dorothy Schmollinger.

Services: Celebration of Life, 2 p.m. Saturday at the Moose Lodge in Lodi. Private burial was held May 29 at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Salinas.

Memorial: Contributions can be made in her name to the donor's favorite charity.

Arrangements: Lodi Funeral Home, 725 S. Fairmont Ave., Lodi.

William Joseph Price

William Joseph Price, 56, of Carmel Valley, died Sunday, March 25, 2001, in a Monterey Bay boating accident.
He was born icon Dec. 14, 1944, in Muncie, Ind. He earned a bachelor's degree in English from Ball State University in Muncie. He had been a resident of Carmel Valley for 17 years. He was a pilot for Airborne Express. He loved flying and piloted all types of aircraft, including the B-52 bomber during military service. He also loved boating, music, travel, mystery stories and old movies.

Military: U.S. Air Force from 1969 to 1975, including duty in Vietnam.

Memberships: Civil Air Patrol.

Survivors: Wife, Linda Price of Carmel Valley; sons, Kristofer and Richard Frank of Carmel Valley; stepdaughters, Laura Phillips of Muncie and Shelley Green of St. Petersburg, Fla.; brother, Charles "Chuck" Price of West Palm Beach, Fla.; sister, Rita Denney of Muncie and Cheryl Ruth of Charleston, N.C.; mother, Margaret Price of Muncie; two stepgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Services: Mass at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at the Carmel Mission.

Burial: Following services at San Carlos Cemetery, Monterey.

Arrangements: The Paul Mortuary, Pacific Grove.

Memorials: Civil Air Patrol or Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Sally E. Adames

Sally E. Adames, 63, of Modesto, died of natural causes Friday, June 15, 2001, at Doctor's Medical Center in Modesto.
She was born icon in San Jose and lived in Modesto for three years. She was a homemaker for 43 years.

Memberships: Catholic Church.

Survivors: husband, Joe Adames of Modesto; sons, Mario Adames, Joe Adames and Mark Adames, all of Modesto, and Armando Adames of San Jose; daughters, Josephine Vega and Mary Adames, both of Modesto, and Martha Adames and Phyllis Adames, both of San Jose; 22 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Lakewood Funeral Home, Hughson.

Rosary: 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at the mortuary.

Mass: 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, at Holy Trinity Church, 803 Elm Ave., Greenfield.

Burial: Holy Trinity Cemetery, Greenfield.

Arrangements: Whitehurst Grim Funeral Service, 429 Bassett St., King City, in conjunction with Lakewood Funeral Service, Hughson.

Vicenta 'Vising' Foronda

Vicenta "Vising" Foronda, 72, of Salinas, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born icon in Cagayan Valley, Philippines, came to the United States in 1979 and lived in Salinas for 22 years. She was a homemaker.

Memberships: Fil-American Catholic Association and Madonna del Sasso parish.

Survivors: Daughters, Myrna Navares and Caroline Jacinto, both of Salinas; sons, Robert Foronda and Carlos Foronda Jr., both of Salinas; mother, Mercedes Tacadina of Salinas; sisters, Lucy West of Illinois, Shirley Flaherty of Indiana, Lana Grizzle, Rebecca Tacadina and Cynthia Tacadina, all of Salinas, and Linda Smith of Kansas; brothers, Robert Tacadina of Illinois, George Tacadina of Oregon and Arturo Tacadina Jr. of Utah; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. today, June 19, and Wednesday, June 20, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Rosary: 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at the mortuary chapel.

Services: Final visitation rites 9 a.m. Thursday, June 21, at the mortuary chapel, followed by procession to Madonna del Sasso Church, 320 E. Laurel Drive, Salinas, for the funeral Mass at 10 a.m.

Burial: Following at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas.

George King Garcia

George King Garcia, 57, of Salinas, died of natural causes Friday, June 15, 2001, in Salinas.
He was born icon in Mexico and lived in Salinas for 48 years. He was a retired cook with various restaurants. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors: Daughters, Violet Hernandez and Olivia Garcia, both of Salinas; son, Mario Thomas Garcia of Salinas; brothers, Enriquie Garcia and Joel Ruiz, both of Salinas; sisters, Martha Dakis and Elsa Arroyo, both of Salinas, and Gloria Valdivieso of Oxnard; and four grandchildren.

Services: Private family memorial services will be held.

Cremation: Has been held.

Arrangements: Struve and Laporte Funeral Home, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Walter C. Gibbs Sr.

Walter C. Gibbs Sr., 59, of Salinas, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at his home after a lengthy illness.
He was born icon in Pittsburgh and lived in Salinas for two years. He was a retired millwright with Iroquois Tool System Inc. for more than 18 years.

Memberships: Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church.

Survivors: Wife of 41 years, Audrey A. Gibbs of Salinas; sons, Walter C. Gibbs Jr. of Salinas and Leonard A. Gibbs of Feasterville, Pa.; daughter, Diana M. Gibbs of Irving, N.Y.; sisters, Donna Feldman of Irving, Dorothy Hunt of Macy, Ind., and Grace Chase of Franklinville, N.Y.; brother, Mike Gibbs of Rapid City, S.D.; and four grandchildren.

Services: Private memorial services by the family only.

Cremation: Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Patti K. Hoss

Patti K. Hoss, 65, of Salinas, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Hospice House in Monterey after a brief illness following two major strokes.
She was born icon in Ogden, Utah, and lived in Monterey County for 39 years. She graduated from California State University, Sacramento, and was a speech pathologist with Alisal Elementary School District for 17 years.

Memberships: Monterey Jazz Festival board of directors for 10 years and former vice president, a member of the Monterey County Symphony Board and Youth Music Monterey, sustaining member of the Junior League of Monterey County, P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter EU, Entre Nous Society, the Wildberries, and Church of the Good Shepherd, Corral de Tierra.

Survivors: Husband, Peter T. Hoss of Salinas; sons, Martino L. Hoss of Seattle and Vincent W. Hoss of Keene; sisters, Elaine Murphy of Point Richmond and Estelle Loeffler of Fair Oaks; brother, John Kozicki of Jackson; and grandchildren, Taylor Elizabeth Hoss and Burke Lawrence Hoss, both of Seattle, and Theodore Daniel Hoss and Christopher Alexander Hoss, both of Keene.

Celebration of Life: 10 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at Church of the Good Shepherd, 301 Corral de Tierra Road, Salinas.

Memorials: Patti K. Hoss Charitable Fund, P.O. Box 2510, Salinas, to be distributed to educational and charitable organizations designated by Patti, or the donor's favorite charity.

Gertrude M. Kara

Gertrude M. Kara, 75, of Salinas, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Pacific Coast Care Center after a lengthy illness.
She was born icon in Ostrava, Czech Republic, and lived in Salinas for 35 years. She was a retired housekeeper with Hacienda Carmel.

Memberships: Madonna del Sasso Church.

Survivors: Daughter, Alexandra Oholorogg of Marlow, Okla.; sister, Edith Krischke of Salinas; brother, Erich Krischke of Hlucin, Czech Republic; and granddaughter, Jennifer Oholorogg of Marina.

Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, and Thursday, June 21, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Mass: 1 p.m. Friday, June 22, at Madonna del Sasso Church, 320 E. Laurel Drive, Salinas.

Ricky N. Knight

Ricky N. Knight, 41, of Salinas, died of natural causes Sunday, June 17, 2001, at his home.
He was born icon in Las Cruces, N.M., and was a lifelong resident of Salinas. He was a painter and roofer with Gino Rinaldi Inc. He graduated from Alisal High School in 1977 and attended Hartnell College.

Memberships: Tile Setters Union and Western Growers Association.

Survivors: Parents, Clarence and Lillie Knight of Salinas; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation: 5 to 9 p.m. today, June 19, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Services: Graveside services 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas.

Betty E. Modena

Betty E. Modena, 77, of Castroville, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Pacific Coast Care Center after a lengthy illness.
She was born icon in Chicago and lived in Castroville for 59 years. She was a retired secretary with North County Fire District and retired from Wells Fargo Bank in 1980 with the operations department. She enjoyed her family, reading and cooking.

Memberships: American Women's Business Association.

Survivors: Sons, Louie Modena Jr. of Salinas and David Modena of Bellingham, Wash.; daughter, Cheryl Modena of Fresno; sister, Ruth Houdashelt of Stockton; three grandchildren, four nieces and one nephew.

Visitation: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, June 21, at the mortuary chapel.

Burial: Castroville district cemetery, Moss Landing.

Memorials: Alzheimer's Association, 182 El Dorado St., Monterey 93940 or donor's favorite charity.
