Guadalupe Villanueva
Guadalupe Villanueva, 55, of Soledad, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born
in Culic·n, Sinaloa, Mexico, and lived in Soledad. She was a laborer with B&P Packing. She was a very family oriented person and loved and cherished her time spent at gatherings with her family. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Solitude Church in Soledad.
Survivors: Husband, Ramon Villanueva of Soledad; sons, Ramon Villanueva Jr. and Francisco Villanueva, both of Gonzales, and Marco Villanueva of Soledad; daughter, Nancy Vasquez of Soledad; parents, Enrique and Consuelo Rueda of San Luis, Sonora, Mexico; brothers, Enrique Rueda, Isabelo Rueda, Guillermo Rueda, Nicolas Rueda and Gilbert Rueda, all of San Luis; sisters, Patricia Newton of Salinas, Lucy Davila of Ventura, Barbara Bustamonte of San Luis and Carmen Moreno of Tijuana, Mexico; and seven grandchildren.

Cesilia H. Castillo
Cesilia H. Castillo, 64, of Salinas, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at O'Connor Hospital in San Jose following a lengthy illness.
She was born
in Soledad and was a lifelong resident of Salinas. She was a teacher's aide for the Monterey County Office of Education before her retirement. She was preceded in death by her sister, Rosa H. Cruz.
Survivors: Husband of 45 years, Louis S. Castillo of San Jose; sons, David H. Castillo of San Jose, Louis Castillo of Soledad, Ron H. Castillo of Huntington Beach and Chris H. Castillo of Salinas; daughter, Frances C. Soberalski of San Antonio; brothers, Alex Herrera Sr. of Salinas, Raymond Herrera of Gonzales and Abilino Herrera of Salinas; and eight grandchildren.

Herschel Paul Cook
Herschel Paul Cook, 75, of Salinas, died Jan. 3, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital.
He was born
in Denver and lived in Monterey County since 1971. He was a dental technician for the U.S. Navy for 25 years and was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 178 until his death. He was an avid golfer.
Military: U.S. Navy, retired after 25 years, World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War, ranked chief.
Survivors: Wife of 55 years, Grace Cook of Salinas; sons, Michael Cook of Carson City, Nev., and Jeff Cook of Monterey; daughter, Carol Cook of Belmont; sister, Lorraine Thomas of La Center, Wash.; and four grandchildren.

John Calvin Goodloe, Sr.
John Calvin Goodloe, Sr., died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Hospice House in Monterey of complications from diabetes. He was 79.
He resided in Salinas for 34 years and was an administrator for the Monterey Unified School District for 32 years. He began as a teacher in 1950 and retired as principal of Joseph Stillwell School in 1982. He served in many positions in the school district during his career.
Associations: He served in the Army Air Corps in the reconnaissance division over China, Burma and Japan during World War II. He was past president of the Marina Lions Club and past president of the Parent-Teachers Association.
Survivors: His son John C. Goodloe, Jr., of Salinas; daughter Mary Lou Dykes of Gillmore, Texas; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services: Private cremation will be held with inurnment at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella.

Kiondre Shariq Hill
Kiondre Shariq Hill died at University of California, San Francisco, Medical Center from congenital heart disease. He was 8 days old.
Survivors: His parents Henry and Laurice Hill of Salinas; brother Lashawn DeGuzman of Salinas; sisters Lasheena DeGuzman and Kiedra Hill of Salinas; grandmothers, Peggy Scholis of Salinas and Billie Maye Windham; grandfathers, Laurence Price of Illinois and James Kirkland of Alabama.

Rae B. Lutz
Rae B. Lutz, 93, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Salinas Care Center following a lengthy illness.
She was born
in Portland, Ore., and lived in Salinas for 70 years. She was a homemaker.
Survivors: Sons, Charles Schafer of Wickenburg, Ariz., and James and John Schafer, both of Las Vegas, 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren
Services: Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, at the Garden of Memories, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Helen I. Pate
Helen I. Pate, 90, of Salinas, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Sunridge Rehab Center of natural causes.
She was born
in Castroville and lived in Salinas and Castroville for 30 years, and also in Monterey. She was a secretary for Jack Prader for 45 years. She attended Castroville School and graduated from Monterey High School in 1927.
Associations: Madonna Del Sasso Catholic Church.
Survivors: Brother Alvin Dutra of Salinas; two nieces, numerous cousins, grandnieces and grand- nephews.

Don Stamback
Don Stamback died of brain cancer Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. He was 52.
He was born
in Shafter and had resided in King City since 1978. He worked as a maintenance engineer at the Dole Fresh Vegetable plant near Soledad.
A 1966 graduate of Shafter High School, Stamback married his wife Pam in 1967 then joined the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. After leaving the Army, he attended a trade school, where he acquired a contractor's license in electrical engineering.
He ran his own business, Stamback Electric, until moving to King City in 1978, where he worked for Basic American Foods for 10 years. He then went to work for Dole for 12 years until last year when his health prevented him from continuing.
He enjoyed boating with his family on the family boat out of Morro Bay and taking walks with his daughter. A strong family man, he always wanted to make sure his family members were happy.
Associations: He was a member and past president of the American Amateur Radio League. He maintained the local repeater station to assist HAM radio operators and local agencies with radio communications. His work included assisting the California Department of Forestry during the fire season when they encountered problems communicating with units in the field.
Survivors: Wife, Pam Stamback of King City; sons, Jeff Stamback and Chris Stamback, both of King City, and Shawn Stamback of San Luis Obispo; daughter, Tabatha Stamback of King City; brothers, Danny Stamback and Dale Stamback, both of Fort Bragg; sister, Debra Zachary of Cambria Pines; grandchild, Devan Stamback of King City.

James Tanda
James Tanda died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Skyline Nursing facility in Salinas following a long illness. He was 92.
A lifelong Salinas resident, he was a gardener for more than 40 years before his retirement. He was a graduate of the Salinas High School class of 1928 and later Heald Business school. He enjoyed ballroom dancing and fishing.
Associations: He was a member of the Lincoln Avenue Presbyterian Church, the Japanese American Citizens League, Professional Gardeners Association, the Monterey Bay Orchid Society and was a former member of the Salinas Anglers Club. He and his wife of 63 years, Marian Tanda, were members of the Spin Drifters Folk Dancing Club.
Survivors: His wife Marian Tanda of Salinas; son, Wayne Tanda and his wife Diane of Morgan Hill; daughter Jean Hirasaki and her husband Bob of Gilroy; brothers, Henry Tanda and his wife Margaret of Salinas, and Charles Tanda and his wife Grace of Salinas; grandchildren Casey and Jade also survive.
Services: 11 a.m. memorial service Monday, Jan. 15, at the Lincoln Avenue Presbyterian Church, 536 Lincoln Ave., Salinas.
Burial: Garden of Memories Columbarium, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.
Carmen A. (Doņa Carmen) Virrueta
Carmen A. (Doņa Carmel) Virrueta died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Eden Valley Care Center in Soledad. She was 77. She was born
in Valle Valparaizo, Zacatecas, Mexico, and lived in Soledad for 57 years. She was a cook for D'Arrigo Brothers and a member of Liberty Chapel and St. Mary of the Nativity Church.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Frank R. Avila, and a sister, Eustolia Avila.
Survivors: Sons, Ray Arellano and Pete Arellano, both of Salinas, Ralph Virrueta of Fresno, Gabriel Virrueta of Hanford and Tony Virrueta of Soledad; daughters, Olga Maria Herring, Katie Trevino and Sylvia Virrueta, all of Salinas, Lucy Virrueta of Hayward and Ofelia Virrueta of Ohio; brother, Robert Avila of Sacramento; sisters, Grace Martinez of Sacramento and Angie Camacho of Castroville; 29 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Linda Sue Wade
Linda Sue Wade died at her Santa Maria home on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, following a lengthy illness. She was 63.
She was born
in Needles but moved numerous times with her family because of her father's career with the railroad. After graduating from Needles High School, she worked for the U.S. Army as a secretary.
Following her marriage to Joseph L. Wade in 1958, the couple settled in Port San Luis and later Santa Maria for several years. Later, she moved to Claremont to continue her education. She received a bachelor's degree in English and Irish literature from Scripps College in 1982. She traveled to Ireland to continue her education in a Studies Abroad program. She later did post-graduate work at the University of Oklahoma in Tulsa.
Returning to Santa Maria, she was employed in the fashion industry to coordinate fashions shows at the Santa Maria Inn. She later managed an art gallery in Los Olivos. After moving to Monterey, she received a full scholarship to the Monterey Institute for International Studies and, in 1999, was awarded a master's degree in teaching English as a second language.
She remained in Monterey until she returned to Santa Maria for health reasons.
She was a lover of the arts and spent many years as a Girl Scout leader when her children were younger.
Survivors: Daughters, Erin L. Wade of Seattle, Jeannine L. Wade of Santa Maria; son, Joseph J. Wade of Santa Maria; former husband Joseph L. Wade of Santa Maria; brothers, Terry Kennedy of San Diego, J.D. Kennedy of Orlando, Fla.; sisters, Jeannine Bomgaars of Hemet, Anita Marsaw of Bullhead City, Ariz.; grandchildren Tommy Thompson, Matthew Wade and Michael Wade; great-granddaughter, Brooke Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services: At her request, her ashes will be scattered on Monterey Bay. Friends are invited to attend the ceremony Sunday, Jan. 14. They are asked to gather at 7:30 a.m. at the Wildberries Coffee House, 212 17th St. in Pacific Grove.

Demetrio 'Daniel' Rico Cruz
Demetrio "Daniel" Rico Cruz, 39, of Salinas, died suddenly Thursday, March 8, 2001, in Nogales, Ariz.
He was born
in Mexico and was a farm laborer for the past five years with Natural Selections in San Juan Bautista.
Survivors: Wife, Linda Del Real of Salinas; sons Joseph Rico DelReal of Salinas and Cristian Rico of Gilroy; daughters, Guadalupe Rico, Yazmin Rico, Yaneli and Karen Rico, all of Gilroy; brother, Gerardo Rico of Salinas; three brothers and two sisters in Mexico; and numerous nieces and nephews.
