Joan Fenn Ward
Joan Fenn Ward was born on March 11, 1934, in Pomerene, Ariz. She was the 13th child out of 14 children born to Alvah and Carmen Fenn. She passed away on Oct. 5, 2010 in Pittsburg, Texas, at the age of 76.
Surviving family includes: husband: Donald Ray Ward of Pittsburg, Texas; two daughters: Pamela (Carling) Wallace and husband, James, of Pittsburg, Texas and Janet (Carling) McLellan and husband, Andrew, of Gilbert, Ariz.; five sons: Mark Fenn Carling and wife, Linda, of Safford, Ariz., Murlyn Dean Carling and wife, Kristi, of Portales, N. M., Jay Fenn Carling and wife, Lupita, of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Eric Fenn Carling and wife, Thea, of Mesa, Ariz., and Todd Fenn Carling and wife, Helen, of Mesa, Ariz.; foster son, Michael Shelly and wife, Sarah, of Pittsburg, Texas, and foster daughter, Patricia (Shelly) Coan and husband, Brent, of Dallas, Texas; and five step-children; 35 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; brothers: Karl Fenn and wife, Thelma, Donald Fenn and wife, Nancy, Vay Fenn and wife, Barbara; sisters: Louise Larson and Margarite Carruthers and husband, Neil, all of Pomerene, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan graduated from Benson Union High School in 1953. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in numerous positions and callings within the church, including: Primary President, Young Women's President, Ward and Stake Camp Director, Music and Choir Director, and served as a Relief Society President three different times during her lifetime.
She was called by the Presiding Bishopric in 1984 to serve as the Houston Texas Bishop Store House Keeper. She worked as a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of American for 40 years, serving as a District Counsel Activities Chairperson, Unit Commissioner, and Round Table Commissioner. She attained as an adult leader rank of Legion of Merit and Silver Beaver.
Joan reigned as a past Pioneer Queen of Pioneer Days in 1990 in Pittsburg, Texas. Joan was a talented artist and musician.
She was a loving mother and "Moner" to all her family. Joan was a fun aunt and friend to be around.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Pomerene Ward of the LDS Church in Pomerene, Ariz., and interment followed at the Pomerene Cemetery.
Catherine McCallister
Catherine McCallister left this earth Aug. 26, 2010. There was no other person with a brighter smile, a bigger zest for life, and a genuine gratitude for every cherished sunrise and sunset she soaked in. She possessed a childlike innocence, an extremely savvy business and real estate sense, but what she was most proud of was being a great mother and provider for not only her children and immediate family, but for any stray animal that had the good fortune of walking down her pathway. The physical beauty she possessed paled in comparison to the beauty in her heart. A natural beauty in every sense of the word, Catherine lived life to its fullest, a true "cowgirl," who did it HER way... there will never, ever be another one like her.
I love you Mom ... Catherine is survived by her three children, Thyme, Misha and Chase, her parents, Diane and Art, and her sister and brothers, Margie, Johnny and Carl.

Oscar E. Wessel, 79, died Oct. 5, 2010. He was born April 11, 1931. Interment was in Cotton City, N.M., with military honors. Casket bearers were family and friends.

Toby Sloan
Toby Sloan, 78, of Pomerene, Ariz., passed away in his sleep on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010.
He was a Korean War veteran. He is survived by his wife, Kitty, of 56 years, five children, nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one sister and two brothers.
As per his wishes, there will be no services.

Socorro B. Mesa
Socorro B. Mesa, beloved mother and grandmother, was born April 21, 1915 and passed away Oct. 21, 2010. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Benson.
In 1934, she was voted Benson's "First Reina" of 16th of Sept.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Ernesto F. Mesa and is survived by her six children: Connie Meza Rodriguez, Ernie Meza Jr., Fred Mesa, "Yaya" Johnson (Errol), Edmund Meza (Michelle) and Sarah Molina. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
She was a gentle and loving mother and grandmother. We will deeply miss her smiling face.
We would like to thank our sister Connie, who took such good care of our mother during her illness.

Our Heavenly Father has a new Angel. Alice made her transition on Nov. 8, 2010. She was born Oct. 16, 1931.
She never had dreams of being famous or of doing something spectacular. The most important thing to her was her kids and grandkids.
She leaves her husband, John W. Meyers; her five children, sons, Eddy Dolan (Kim), Tim Dolan (Mary), daughters, Kathleen, Charleen (Gary), Colleen (Billy); and 10 wonderful grandchildren; brother, Gene Davis (Ann), and sisters, LaVerne Lawrence (David), and AnnaVee Wells.
Alice spent 40 years in Real Estate, and enjoyed it very much. She loved Real Estate, helping people find a home, something her parents never could afford.
There will be no service.
Betty "Aunt Betty" J. Sanderson
Betty "Aunt Betty" J. Sanderson, a 50-year resident of Benson, Ariz., died Nov. 5, 2010 at the age of 64. She was born to George and Sarah Gregory May 7, 1946 in Columbus, Ohio. A memorial service will be held for her Nov. 12, 2010 at 6 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Benson.
She was preceded in death by her mother, father and husband. She is survived by three sisters: Elizabeth (Ron) Sexton, Stella (Steve) Williams and Rebekah (Ronald) Mourfield and three brothers: Eugene (Gloria) Gregory, George (Peggy) Gregory and Andy (Mary) Gregory, numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Betty will be remembered most for her loving spirit, love for children and laughter. All those who came in contact with her loved her and she loved everyone for who they were. She is going to be greatly missed by all.
Leonard B. Dill
Leonard B. Dill, a 17-year resident of the area, died Oct. 23, 2010, in Benson, Ariz., at the age of 84. He previously lived in Pryor Okla. He was born Oct. 1, 1926, in Chickasha, Okla. to Berry and Lola Dill. He was a retired road foreman in Oklahoma and lifetime farmer/rancher.
Visitation was Oct. 27, 2010 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Richardson's Remembrance Center in Benson. Graveside services followed at 3 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery
in Tucson, Ariz. Honorary pallbearers were Lanny Dill and Joseph Dill. Pallbearers were Leonard Dill, Dennis Dill, Grant Dill, Logan Dill, Lonnie Dill and Dustin Dill.
Survived by his wife of 51 years, Bessie; son, Lanny; daughter, Lynnann; seven grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Arthur and Leo; sisters, Rucilla, Alma and Jewel. Preceded in death by his mother and father, several brothers and sisters, and his beloved son Norman.

Daniel G. Rosell passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 17, 2010 in Deming, N.M.

Reg Garavito
Master Sgt. Reg Garavito U.S.M.C. (Ret.) passed away on Nov. 28, 2010 of heart failure. Reg served 28 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. His service included seeing combat in World War II, the Korean War and two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts.
The Arizona Veterans Hall of fame honors veterans who continue their service to their communities after their service to their country. Reg was inducted into the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame in 2003 for his unlimited supply of generosity and energy to Holy Trinity Monastery, Tombstone Lions Club, St. David Water Association, Benson Elks, and Benson Marine Corps League. He did so much for so many.
Reg is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Nancy; son Michael (Kathleen) of Michigan; and daughter Karen of California; daughter-in-law Judi Garavito Bigham (Gary); grandchildren, Michele (Mike) Travis of Sierra Vista and Elizabeth and David of Michigan; one great-granddaughter, Elsa Travis; siblings, Rachel Munozi, Paul and John Garavito and Ruth Salazar (Art). Predeceased by son Glenn and brother Frank.
Services will be Tuesday, Dec. 7, at Holy Trinity Monastery, followed by interment at Southern Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemetery
in Sierra Vista.

Pearl L. Anglin was born March 25, 1927 in St. David, Ariz. to Art and Marie Wilson. Pearl entered into rest Nov. 26, 2010 in Benson, Ariz.
She is survived by her husband of 62, years, Albert R. Anglin; seven children, Harold, Ruth Marie, Alice, Woodrow, Lavina, Sally and Rip; 17 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; brother, Arthur Gene Wilson and sister, Ruth Teague, both of Benson.
Memorial services were held Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010 at Richardson's Remembrance Center.

Frank Sommer, 84, a long-time resident of Bullhead City, passed away at home on Tuesday, November 6, 2001.
He was born on September 10, 1917 to Rudolph and Rose Sommer in Detroit, Michigan.
During WWII, he served his country in the U.S. Army, then became an Electrical Engineer and worked in construction for Civil Service.
Frank belonged to the V.F.W. Post 10005, in Bullhead City and did volunteer work at the Bullhead City Senior Center.
Frank is preceded in death by his wife Doris, and is survived by his daughter Theresa Stites of Pittsburg, Calif.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 10th, 2001 at 3:00p.m and Funeral Services at 4:00p.m. at Desert Lawn Funeral Home, 9250 S. Ranchero Ln., Mohave Valley, Ariz. Committal will be private.

Betty Wickline Morris (61) passed away on Friday, July 26, 2002 in a Las Vegas Hospital. Betty was born, along with her twin Nancy, on January 14, 1941 in Ingram Branch, West Virginia. Betty was a food server for many years at the Colorado Bell, Riverside & the Golden Nugget-Laughlin coffee shops. She lived in the Laughlin/Bullhead City area for 33 years and she enjoyed the friendship of many people up and down the river. Betty is survived by her daughter Jeannie Stockton of Arizona; twin sister, Nancy Wicklin of California; sister, Martha Herrick of Washington; brothers, Carl Wickline of North Carolina, Charles Wickline of West Virginia and Joseph Wickline of Arizona. Betty shared her life with James Heatherly of Bullhead City, Arizona and her big persona in a small package will be missed by all of her friends and family. She enjoyed living "on the river" and spent many a good time there. Most of us will think of Betty Morris every time we see "Betty Boop". A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2002 at Diamond & Sons Mortuary Chapel, on Silver Creek Rd. across from Bullhead Hospital in Bullhead City, Arizona. A get-together will follow at O'Larry's Grill.

Kelly J. Rowin, 27, passed away on September 15, 2002 in Mesa, AZ. He was born in Westminster, California. A Memorial was held at Amazing Grace Church in Bullhead City on September 21, 2002. Senior Pastors Dr.'s Josiah and Gailand Drawhorn officiated. Our Hearts were broken to lose this special man, our grandson. His life was not an easy one on this earth, so God, who was always there for him, sent his angels to bring him home to his Father. To be with his many relatives who have proceeded him. WILLIS STU HATFIELD
Willis F. Stu Hatfield of Willow Valley, AZ passed away after a full and active life of 84 years on October 16, 2002. A massive stroke was the cause of death. He was born in Cashion, OK November 16, 1917. He and his family lived in the Ventura-Ojai, CA area for 23 years. He moved to Arizona in 1976 after retiring from Shell Oil Company with 30 years of service. As an avid fisherman he was attracted to the Colorado River area and enjoyed its fishing and the beauty of the desert for many years. As a Master Gardner he had a great appreciation for gardening and all of nature. He traveled extensively throughout North America and was a charter member of the Mohave Coyotes, a chapter of the Good Sam Club. He was also a member of the Over-the-Humps Dune Buggy Club for many years. Most of all he was a family man. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren all enjoyed camping with him and following him through his garden learning from his wealth of knowledge. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Vena Hatfield; daughter and son-in-law, Lynne and Rey Reyna, of South Lake Tahoe and son and daughter-in-law, Don and Angela Hatfield, of Yaroomba, Australia. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and their spouses: Stacy Olsen, Cindy Reinwald, Monica Thayer and Lisa Thayer of Ventura, CA; Michael Hatfield and Steven Hatfield of Tempe, AZ; and Stephanie Hatfield of Memphis, TN. Also, eight great grandchildren. Mr. Hatfield is also survived by three sisters: Neva Kosted of Oklahoma City, OK, Mary Jackson of Glencoe, OK, and Doris Stotlar of Bungoma, Africa. He was pre-disceased by his brother Marvin Hatfield. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, October 20, 2002 at 2:00PM at the Willow Valley Club, 549 E. Gordon Drive, Willow Valley, AZ 86440.
CAROL LYNN BEELER
Carol Lynn Beeler, daughter of Joyce MeRita (McMurphy) Hickman and the late James Nelson Hickman, was born May 11, 1967 in Alva, Oklahoma, and passed away after an extended illness on December 23, 2002 in Alva, Oklahoma, at the age of 35 years, 7 months, and 22 days. Carol graduated from Alva High School in 1985 where she was a member of the high school cross country team that won the state track meet. After graduation, she went to Europe as part of a summer study tour. She graduated from Northwestern Oklahoma State University with degrees in Home Economics and Elementary Education with an emphasis on Early Childhood. Carol lived in Hawaii for almost a year before returning to Alva where she worked at Beeler's Restaurant for 3 years. On March 23, 1996, she was united in marriage to Kevin Wayne Beeler at Alva, Oklahoma. They moved to Arizona where they taught two years in Bagdad and the last four in the Ft. Mojave area. Her most recent teaching position was at Ft. Mojave Elementary School as a kindergarten teacher. She took a leave of absence in September to return to be with her family and friends in Alva, Oklahoma. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Alva. She always liked being outdoors where she could grow flowers and a lawn. She also liked handiwork, sewing and cooking for her family. She was preceded in death by her father; her grandparents, Claude and Dora Hickman and Elmer and Laura McMurphy. Carol is survived by her husband, Kevin, of Ft. Mojave, Arizona; one son, Eric Beeler, of Ft. Mojave; three daughters, Laura Beeler, and twins Jamie and Cassie Beeler of Ft. Mojave; her mother; Joyce Hickman of Alva; two sisters, Kathy Gordon and her husband, Brian, of Alva, Oklahoma, and Karen Hickman and her husband, Greg Banse, of Enid, Oklahoma; her special nephews, David and Bradley Gordon, and special niece, Kally Gordon; her father and mother-in-law, Bill and Linda Beeler of Alva; two brothers-in-law, Johnny Beeler of Alva, and Rick Beeler and his wife, Sylvia, of Page, Arizona; one sister-in-law, Tasha Beeler of Alva; her beloved cat, Tigger, and many other relatives and friends. Victor Anthony Urso, 75, a 16 year resident of Bullhead City, passed away at home on June 20, 2003. Victor was born on January 12, 1928 in Pittsburgh, PA to Joseph and Caroline Urso. Victor served his country during World War II as an Apprentice Seaman in the U.S. Navy. After his navy service, he was a steam fitter in local #250 and taught welding classes for the union. He is survived by his wife Shirley of Bullhead City, AZ; five sons, Victor Urso and Frank Urso of California, Rocco Urso of Bullhead City, AZ, and Anthony Urso and Samuel Urso of Lake Havasu City, AZ; 2 daughters, Mary Urso of California and Shirley Ann Kilborn of Hawaii; one sister, Mary Becker of Pennsylvania. Victor was blessed with 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Victor was a member of St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the VFW Post 10005. Pat A. McMurry, 57, a resident of Fort Mojave, died peacefully at home with her family around her on June 27, 2003. She was born September 18, 1945 in Clearfield, Pennsylvania to Joseph and Florence Valenza. Pat came to Arizona in 1962. She was the Office Manager for Interstate utilities where she worked alongside her husband, Don, for 25 years. Pat was a quiet person who did not want to be in the spotlight. However, she was very active behind the scenes in her own quiet way. When she was diagnosed with diabetes she attended the Diabetes Education Group at WARMC to learn more about her health. As a member of the group, she became very involved in creating may brochures and pamphlets for education people about diabetes. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Don of Fort Mojave; her mother, Florence Zorens of Bullhead City; two sons, Don McMurry, Jr. (wife Roberta) of Bullhead City and Mike McMurry (wife Jenny) of Mohave Valley; one brother, Joey Valenza of California; three sisters, Carol Dixon and family of Santa Fe, Texas, Jennifer Greene and family of Galveston, Texas and Debbie Leckie and children, Angie and Alan of Bullhead City; five grand- children, Janna, Laura, P.J., Kaitlyn and Ali; nephew and niece, Chuck and Angee McMurry and their daughter, Shasta of Pagosa Springs, Colorado; and a very large extended family. JACK SHAW
Jack Shaw, a resident of Bullhead City, died Sunday, July 27, 2003 at the age of 82. He was born in Peoria, IL on November 4, 1920. Jack grew up in Texas where he met his wife, Marie. He moved to Indiana, Marie followed shortly and they were married. After the birth of twin boys, Jack answered the call to duty and went off to fight in WWII. During the war, Jack was severely wounded in combat, and returned as a decorated hero. He then started a career in sales. Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Marie; four children: Fred Shaw of Carpinteria, CA, Ed Shaw of Parker, CO, Sherry Otto of Lake Zurich, IL, and Debbie Smith of Redding, CA. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and his sister Mary Daniels of Winchester, CO. Jack leaves behind a legacy of caring and service to his country and community. He was deeply loved and respected and will be sorely missed. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church on Monday, August 4, 2003 at 10A.M. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Margaret Mary's Building Fund.

CECIL RAY JENKINS
Ray Jenkins, 75, passed away on September 26, 2004 in Bullhead City. He was born on April 18, 1929 in Eugene, Oregon.
He came to live in Bullhead City in 1962 after being discharged from the United States Marine Corp. He epitomized the saying “Once A Marine, Always A Marine” in a wonderful way. Ray enjoyed fishing, boating, playing cribbage, watching all sports on TV, and being with his two cats.
Before joining the service, Ray worked in Oregon in the lumber industry, mining, and “cowboying. He worked with others in various businesses when he first came to Bullhead. He owned and managed various businesses in Kingman, Bullhead City, and Mohave Valley during his 42 years in the area.
Ray was very outgoing and had a great sense of humor. he was a very honest, trusting and caring person. he was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched.
He is survived by six children: Bill McCune of Kingman, Joyce Cox of Bonita, Calif., Carolyn Corbett of Bullhead City, Jeanie Dell of Kingman, Raymond Jenkins of Springfield, Ore., Gary Jenkins of Springfield, Ore. and two sisters: Barbara Keep of Eugene, Ore. and Peggy Sayles of Cottage Grove, Ore. Ray also had 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Lorine V. Jenkins and daughter, Melba L. Rederick.
According to his wishes, there were no funeral services. He was laid to rest beside his loving wife at Desert Lawn Memorial Gardens in Mohave Valley.
GENEVA COX
Geneva Mable (Caswell) Cox, 91, a resident of Bullhead City, passed away on Monday, August 9, 2004 from natural causes. She was born on Dec. 23, 1912 in Whitney, Nebraska.
She was preceded in death by her sister Rachel and her brother Ralph.
She is survived by her daughters and their husbands: Peggy and Ed Dickens, Marilyn and Ron Crippen and Renice and Dave Priest; six grandchildren: Vance, Jan, Kathy, Steve, David and Roger and nine great-grandchildren: Brad, Briana, Sara, Nick, Travis, William, Michael, Zachary, and Joseph.
She was an outstanding person and will be greatly missed by all!
ARIANNA THEODORE
Arianna Theodore passed away on Monday, August 9, 2004 at the age of 44. Arianna was born on March 27, 1960 in West Virginia.
Arianna loved horses and was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association. She was a barrel racer on the pro rodeo circuit.
Arianna is survived by her husband Bill of Mohave Valley; one brother, John Haldane of Matthews, NC; and her best friend Barry Hillman of Mohave Valley.
A Scripture Service with Rosary will be held at Desert Lawn Funeral Home in Mohave Valley, Arizona on Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at 5:00 pm.
Officiating will be Father Peter Dobrowski.
