Survived by son, Fred (Erika) Shantz of Tucson; two brothers, Russell Fallon of Scottsdale, AZ, James Fallon of New York City, NY; one sister, S. SHORES, Kathryn D., 72, born July 31, 1923 and formerly of Washington, PA, passed away February 13, 1996 at St. Mary’s Hospice. Beloved wife of William Shores; mother of Carol (Bob) Moore of Washington, PA; step-mother of Ruth Shores and Carol (James) McCormick of Tucson, Nancy (Tony) Sneska of MD, and Darlene Machado of WV. Also survived by 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her memory will stay with us forever. No services will be held. FREDONA, Nicholas Peter Jr., July 27, 1921 – February 15, 1996. Nicholas is survived by sons, Craig (Andrea) of San Jose, CA, Christopher of Houston, TX and Ronald (Lori) of Tucson; grandchildren, Maria, Melissa, Patrick, Douglas, Michael and Rebecca Fredona. Additional grandchildren Chaurice and Melissa Rice. Nick came to Tucson in 1944 to work in the defense industry. He worked for Consolidated Aircraft as an inspector for the B-24 bomber. He then worked for Grand Central at Davis Monthan restoring B-29s for the Korean war effort. When Hughes Aircraft opened in Tucson in the early 50s Nick went to work there for the aerospace industry as an engineer. Nicholas worked over 35 years for Hughes Aircraft. He worked in many of the various divisions there including Falcon, Surveyor, Phoenix and Tow. He retired as the Head of Configuration Management. He was an avid tennis buff, even known to sweep the courts after a rain in order to play. He will be remembered by his many friends of the courts in Tucson. A Memorial gathering for friends and family will be held at his home in Tucson. We will miss him greatly, but cherish him in our hearts forever. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society or St. Mary’s Hospice.
HATHAWAY, Naomi Shoemaker, 99, a resident of Tucson since 1923, died on February 14, 1996. A Memorial service will be held at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 824 N. MARTIN, William J. “Bill’, born September 26, 1925, passed away February 14, 1996. Survived by wife, Bette; daughters, Mindy Martin, Cindy (Dale) Bridge, Mary (Jack) Mozley, Margaret (George) Kolar; three grandchildren, Jayme Andersen, Jerome and Jessica Kolar. MOTE, Charles R., was born in Hayden, IN in 1911, died February 15, 1996. Mr. Mote and his beloved wife, Marion have lived in Tucson for the past 24 years. Before retiring here, Mr. Mote and his family lived in Illinois. Besides his wife of almost 60 years, he is survived by his daughters, Darlene Frahm and Sheryll Molinari; his sister, Mary Felice; five granddaughters; and one great grandson. PHILLIPS, Franklin M., 66, of Phoenix, a former Tucson resident for 15 years, died February 15, 1996. Mr. Phillips was born in Chicago, IL and moved to Arizona in 1969. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and while living in Tucson was owner of EMP Enterprises. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Phillips; sons, Todd Alexander Phillips and Frank Phillips, Jr; daughters, Pamela Phillips, Karen Llewellyn and Jerri Ann Yznaga; brother, Mervin Phillips; sister, Royal Phillips; and five grandchildren. RAVENSCROFT, Mary Elizabeth, 77, of Tucson, died on February 15, 1996 of cancer. Mary was born in Union Springs, AL, attended the University of Montevallo, taught school in Alabama, Michigan and Guam, for 35 years. She retired, moved to Tucson and enjoyed 20 years of active tennis. She won many awards and was still playing tennis last October. Survived by a brother, Jackson Pittman Ravenscroft; sister-in-law, Day Ely Ravenscroft; nieces, Virginia Ravenscroft-Scott, Katherine Ravenscroft Jones, Sue Ravenscroft Ulrich, Janice Ravenscroft Milam and their families as well as numerous beloved cousins and a tennis team as close as family. WHITTEMORE, Jerry A., 49, of Avondale, a retired tax accountant, passed away January 11, 1996. He was born in Tacoma, Washington April 18, 1946. Grew up in Tucson. Services were held in Phoenix at the Greenwood Memory Lawn Chapel with Entombment at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery Serenity Mausoleum.
ABERNETHY, Charles Ernest, born February 2, 1960 in Dallas, TX, died February 14, 1996 at the Tucson VA Medical Center. After cremation his remains will be buried in Ft. Bliss National Cemetery, El Paso, TX in a private ceremony. He resided in Tucson since 1989. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from New Mexico State University and a Master of Science Degree from the University of Arizona in Electrical Engineering. He was a member of the Tucson Unitarian Universalist Church. He obtained the rank of Lt. in the U S Naval Reacter Program. He was active in scouting, amateur radio (WB5VHZ), Sierra Club, American Legion and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. At the time of his death he was working toward a PHD at the University of Arizona. His hobbies were hiking, biking, backpacking, camping and cross country skiing. A Memorial Service will be held at the Tucson Unitarian Universalist Church, 4831 E. 22nd St., at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 20. GINSBERG, Anna, 93, born September 27, 1902 in New York City, died on February 17, 1996. Moved to Tucson with her husband, Harry Ginsberg in September 1960. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was devoted to her family, loved reading, travel, the theater and movies. She was an avid tennis fan and an ardent Scrabble competitor. She was a community volunteer for the National Council of Jewish Women (N.C.J.W.) and was honored as the N.C.J.W. “Woman of Valor’ in 1991. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Ginsberg, her daughter, Ruth Chesin and several siblings. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Merrill Holpert of Tucson; sister, Esther Fleischer; and brother, William Fromm both of NY; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Terry Holpert (Alan Stein), and children Benjy and David Stein; Peter Holpert; Jeffrey Chesin all of Tucson; Marc Chesin, and children Bryan and Bari Chesin all of Phoenix; Tamara Chesin (Gary) Wolfe and children Lauren and Daniel Wolfe all of Houston, TX; Michael (Susan) Chesin, and children Matthew and Daniel Chesin all of Phoenix and several nieces and nephews. HENRY, Michele Marie Hofmann, born January 1, 1953 in Flint, MI, passed on to a better life on this 13th day of February, 1996.
