He was a WWII Vet served as MP; was president of Chapter #99 of the Teamsters Union in Rochester, NY; served as president of the Thornydale Heights Homeowners Association in 1962; a representative of the “12 Step Team’ AA; life member of the Disabled American Veterans. OBERG, Retha Elliott, age 73, a 44 year resident of Tucson and a 29 year resident of Chugiak, AK, passed away January 11, 1996 in Tucson. Born July 9, 1922 in El Capitan, AZ. Survived by her daughters, Retha (Claude) Adams, Willie (Andy) Wash, and Janice (Ronald) Gilmore; 11 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; brother, Jack Brittain; sisters, J.A. Brittain, Charlotte Knox, Bertha Cheely, Zell Shaw, and Hazel Smith. Predeceased by husband, Louis Herbert Elliott; son, Herbert William “Sonny’ Elliott; and daughter, Sherry Linda Elliott. Visitation will be held Monday, January 15, 1996 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave. Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY CHAPEL. VANWORMER, Ferne Alberta, 83, loving mother and grandmother, entered into rest January 11, 1996, after a long illness. ZINOWICH, Andree Para, 81, of Tucson, died January 10, 1996. She is survived by daughter, Noelle (Richard) Kuhn, Tucson; grandson, Richie Kuhn and sister of Lake Havasu, Simone Osborne. BABB-GREEN, Jody, loving mother and friend, died at 71 on January 10, 1996. Born Joanne Reed Stiffler to Virgil and Charles B. Stiffler on June 10, 1924 in Detroit, MI. Jody will be missed by her husband, Harold Green; daughter, Dorothy Richmond; sister, Mary Lou Craig; niece, Cynthia C. Harwood; nephew, Charles Craig; and adopted family, Shirley, Dewey and Faythe Van Cleave.
Her boundless generosity, life long support of human rights, equality for women and children, and joyful sense of humor will be missed.
Lady Nomad to her CB Radio friends, Jody and her former husband Jack Babb were members of the FOPA #20 and Elk’s Lodge #385. Jody was an active member of Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, the League of Women’s Voters (Education Funding), and was the first volunteer driver for the Epilepsy Outreach Project. Contributions, in her memory, to these groups will help carry on her work in our community.
An informal meeting to celebrate her life is set for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 20 at the Quaker Meeting House, 931 S. 5th Ave.
BANTLIN, Marguerite Schaaf, 59, of Tucson, died Sunday, January 14, 1996. She is survived by her children, Stephanie Bantlin Prudence, Georgeann Bantlin Hindhaugh, Frank W. Bantlin, Arthur Bantlin, Jennifer Bantlin, Karen Bantlin; sister, Mary Jeanne O’Boyle; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by Frank L. Bantlin. Marguerite received Degrees in Journalism from the Univ. of Arizona; her B.A. in 1980 and her M.A. in 1982. She was a member of N.F.P.W., A.P.W., The Clarion, Inc., and the Tucson Book Publishing Assoc. BATISTE, Mary Thomasine, 77, resident of Tucson for 56 years, died December 10, 1995. She is survived by her children, Ronald Batiste of Pasadena, CA, Ernest R. Batiste III of Bellevue, WA, Marc C. Batiste of Phoenix, Karen L. Batiste-Krasne of Vancouver, WA and Candace M. Selwyn of Summit, NJ; also surviving are a brother, Richard A. Hightower, Jr. of Rialto, CA; and sister, Elizabeth G. Hightower of Washington, DC; as well as 10 grandchildren. Mrs. Batiste was a junior high school teacher who taught French and English. COFFEY, Veronica, age 73, of Tucson, died January 15, 1996. She is survived by her son, Dr. John J. Coffey II; and three sisters, Julia Rockey and Stella Halpin of Herkimer, NY and Antoinette Woodruff of Las Vegas, NV. Mrs. Coffey was born in Herkimer, NY and graduated from St. Peter’s Hospital School of Nursing, Albany, NY in 1943. She worked as a public health nurse in hospital settings and private practice. She married John Coffey in May of 1961. He preceded her in death. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and the St. Francis of Assisi Guild. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, 1996. NULL, Lois J., 71, of North Vernon, Indiana and a former Tucson resident and retiree of Hughes Aircraft, died at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 1995 at her home. She lived in Decatur County most of her life, had worked at the Randall Co. in Greensburg, owned and operated a grocery at Letts, moved to Tucson, AZ in 1973 and was employed by Hughes Aircraft until moving to North Vernon after her retirement. She was a member of Forest Hill Presbyterian Church. Funeral was conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg, with Rev. Charles Carter officiating. Calling was held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m Wednesday. Burial at Union Presbyterian Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Jennings V.N.A., Inc., 945 Veterans Dr., P. O. Box 909, N. Vernon, IN 47265. Mrs. Null was born in Forest Hill June 4, 1924, the daughter of George W. and Viola Mae Belt Hogg. She married Kenneth Wayne Null August 19, 1943 at Indianapolis. He preceded her in death May 16, 1975. Survivors include sons, Carl Wayne Null of TX and Thomas J. and James R. Null, both of NV; daughters, Rebecca A. Mead of NV and Anita Matern and Lila M. Helm, both of North Vernon; sisters, Bonnie Kincaid of Jamestown and Hettie Jacobs of Forest Hill; a half-sister, Vern McGee; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sisters, Florence Ashby, Velma Gray and Dorothy Baker; a brother, George William Hogg; a half brother, Paul Hogg, Sr., and one grandchild.
REYNOLDS, Elizabeth Love, born December 2, 1913 in South Carolina, passed away into the arms of our Lord on January 14, 1996 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. “Bobbie’, as her many friends knew her, was a golfer, bridge player, artist and musician. She was a good wife to husband James for 48 years. She is survived by her sons, Steven and Richard; and her sister, Mary Cobb; grandchildren, Michael, Courtney and Steven James. Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, January 17 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Phillip’s in the Foothills, River Rd. at Campbell Ave.

She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth “Bette’ MacDonald; son-in-law, Robert Mac Donald; two grandchildren, Linda (Richard) Carbone, Scott (Marykate) MacDonald; three great-grandchildren, Angela and Jordan Carbone, Amanda MacDonald, all of Tucson; one sister, Christine Perlino of Lynn, MA; and many nieces and nephews. He was a life member D.A.V., very active in Masonic Bodies, Past Master of Oasis Lodge #52 F&AM, Scottish Rite, Royal Order of Scotland, Sabbar Shrine Temple, York Rite Bodies, K.Y.C.H., currently Arizona President of Hi 12 Clubs, members of the Knights of the Red Cross of Constantine and a member of Grotto Assoc. STEEBER, Linnie L., was taken by the Lord unto His bosom, January 14, 1996. Born to Jim and Macie Hayes Tidwell on May 30, 1912 in Mayes County, Pryor, OK. Linnie was a registered member of the Cherokee Nation. Preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Herman. Survived by sons, Richard L. (Marilyn) of Ehrenberg, AZ, Lyle H. (Joyce) of Tucson; sisters, Gladys Morrison of Dewey, OK and Hettie Nelson of Vinita, OK; brother, Clinton Tidwell of Claremore, OK: grandchildren, Diann Lee Hodges, Connie Ann Bookout, Sabrina Paulette Robinson, Michelle, Deanna, Gary and James Steeber; numerous great-grandchildren. Linnie and Herman moved to Tucson in 1956. Linnie was a devoted wife and homemaker. She and her husband had numerous friends from different local churches and were especially supportive of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Tucson. Linnie found great pleasure and joy through teaching Sunday School, singing and playing the guitar. Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 19 at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5401 S.
