SARGENT, Harold F. “Sarge’, 66, of Tucson, died December 31, 1995. He is survived by his brother, Raymond Sargent of Peoria, IL; as well as numerous friends in the movie industry and the Tucson area. ARMSTRONG, Barbara Jenkins, born September 12, 1912, died January 8, 1996. A retired architect, graduated from the University of Michigan School of Architecture in 1935. She moved to Green Valley in 1977 from Madison, Wisconsin where she was active in maintaining the Unitarian Meeting House designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Barbara was very active in the Villas East Home Owners Association, The Forum, the Green Valley Computer Club and the Unitarian Universalist Congregation. According to Barbara’s wishes there will be no formal public service although her friends are encouraged to gather together and remiss about her very active life. BATISTE, Mary Thomasine, 77, resident of Tucson for 56 years, died December 10, 1995. She is survived by her children, Ronald Batiste of Pasadena, CA, Ernest R. Batiste III of Bellevue, WA, Marc C. Batiste of Phoenix, Karen L. Batiste-Krasne of Vancouver, WA and Candace M. Selwyn of Summit, NJ; also surviving are a brother, Richard A. Hightower, Jr. of Rialto, CA; and sister, Elizabeth G. Hightower of Washington, DC; as well as 10 grandchildren. Mrs. Batiste was a junior high school teacher who taught French and English. COLLINS, Elizabeth Florene, 73, a 36 year resident of Tucson, died Saturday, January 13, 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Collins. RILEY, Mary Agnes, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away on January 12, 1996. Preceded in death by her husband, Joseph. Survived by her children, Joseph (Kathleen), Mary (Ron) Benge, Rory (Carolee), Kathryn, Regina, Frances “Marty’ (Julie), Neysa Kalil (Fred), Nora (John) Simons, Cecelia, Jude (Lisa), Loretta, George, Julia (Ken) Dalton; sisters, Helen E. Reilly, Alice R. Christian, Jeanne F. Reilly; grandchildren, Joseph, Patrick, Clare, Brian, Matthew, Nicholas, Levi, Jessica, Hannah, Ashley, Samantha, Frankie, Jordan, Shana, Alicia, Kimberlye, Courtlin; numerous nieces and nephews. Mary worked for several years for the Arizona Trust Company, before going to work for the family business, Reilly Funeral Home, until retirement. Born in Tucson, she attended St. Joseph’s Academy and later along with her sisters, attended and graduated from St. Mary’s College, South Bend, Indiana. VANCZA, John, Jr., 64, a 37 year resident of Tucson, passed away January 7, 1996. Born on July 15, 1931 in Columbus, NJ to John and Katherine Barna Vancza, Mr. Vancza spent the first 27 years of his life in Columbus as a dairy farmer. Mr. Vancza and his first wife, Georgia moved to Tucson in 1958 where he worked for Hughes Aircraft and then Burr Brown as a model shop manager. In 1968 Mr. Vancza, an electronics genius, founded Tri-Tronics Inc., with Gerald Gonda. Active in amatuer radio John AK7Z, (K7ILE) was a pioneering figure in the Tucson Ham community. First operating radios in New Jersey, John was extremely active in the civil defense programs of the 1950's. A teacher and mentor to many Hams, he was active in the Cactus and Old-Pueblo radio clubs and both the Tucson Repeater Association and the Arizona Repeater Association. John established one of the first repeaters in the Tucson area, thus allowing for communication in emergency situations. John was involved with the Southern Arizona Search and Rescue until his death, providing expertise in communications. A pilot since his youth in New Jersey, John took delight in flying until health problems relegated him to flying radio controlled aircraft. John loved the outdoors, spending many hours hunting and fishing. In the 1970's Mr. Vancza was active in the resettlement of Indo-Chinese refugees. Sponsoring families and providing jobs for many people at Tri-Tronics. John Vancza Jr. is survived by wife, Wanell; son, James; daughters, Mary and Veleta; former wife, Georgia; brother, Victor; and sister, Victoria Folsom; step-children, Debbie, Lynn and Daryl Taylor. He is honored and remembered with great love as a generous, kind, and brilliant husband, father and friend. His love and wisdom touched many lives, he will be missed. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 17 at Pusch Ridge Chapel, 1401 E. El Conquistador, Oro Valley with reception to follow at the Sheraton El Conquistador.
