JUAREZ, Manuel Roman, 17, a lifetime resident of Tucson, passed away December 23, 1995. Born February 11, 1978 in Tucson. Survived by his father, Manuel Juarez; mother, Matilda Soto; brothers, Fred and Rene Solano; uncles, Eddie (Lamar) Leyvas, Joe Luna, Albert (Belen) Soto; aunt, Sylvia Soto; uncles, Louie (Yvonne) Soto, Javier (Kim) Juarez; cousins, Roxanne and Eddie Leyvas; many family and friends also survive. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 28, 1995 from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5401 S. LAHTI, Elizabeth M., entered into peace in Tucson on December 23, 1995. Dearly beloved wife of, Paul T. Lahti M.D. of 51 years. Loving mother of, Ted, Carol, Christine, Jim, Cathi, Linda. Loving mother-in-law of, Thomas Schlamme, Lola Lahti and Mike Smith. Loving grandmother of, Wilson, Emma and Joe Schlamme and of Stephen, David and Cheryl Lahti. Loving sister of, Barbara Beech and Donald Tabar. She was born May 4, 1920 in Detroit, MI. She grew up in Lamont, MI. She attended Wayne State University and earned her R.N. Degree at Grace Hospital in Detroit where she graduated second in her class. Elizabeth had many talents. She was an award winning artist, a pilot, a surgical nurse and active member of P.E.O., a Philanthropic organization. But her greatest gift was her gift for loving. She was warm, generous and kind person who was loved by all who knew her. Throughout her life she was a great source of strength and inspiration to her family and friends. She will be deeply missed but her loving spirit will live on forever in the hearts of the many many people who’s lives she touched. Memorial service will be held this Saturday, December 30, at 10:30 a.m. at Lutheran Church of the Foothills, 5102 N. Craycroft. Services will also be held Torch Lake Bellaire, MI next summer. LAYTON, Otis A., 73, of Tucson, passed away December 22, 1995. Survived by loving wife, Joan; children, Jeff (Susann) Layton, Larry (Trudy) Layton, Mary (Larry) Quihuis, Robert Hourscht, Muriel (Tim) Wieland, Marcia (Bill) Damewood, Randy (Hertha) Hourscht, and Rick (Loretta) Hourscht; and three brothers and two sisters. MADERO, Billie Jean, 62, died December 25, 1995. Survived by husband, Frank Madero; sons, Kenneth Monday and David Madero; grandson, Raymond Monday and granddaughter Belinda Monday, all of Tucson. PETER, Ruth Burtschy, 84, of Tucson, died December 23, 1995, leaving a legacy of love. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence; her children, Charlyne and Larry; grandchildren, Kim, Shannon, and Kevin; and great-granddaughter, Ashley. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Rosella; brother, Jerome; son-in-law, Bob; daughter-in-law, Gayle, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and six brothers and sisters. Ruth was born and raised in Cincinnati, OH and moved to Tucson in 1977. Mom will remain in our hearts as our model for unconditional love, playfulness, grace, dedication, strength, humility, and above all, her willingness to share herself fully with everyone she knew. SWEENEY, Daniel R., 69, of San Francisco, died December 21, 1995. Survived by brothers, John of Barstow, CA., Jerry of Tucson, dear friend Zoanne Nordstrom of CA; numerous nieces and nephews. Dan was a Stevedore and member of the ILWU. He sailed with the Merchant Marine during WWII and served in combat with the US army during the Korean War. TAYLOR, Mary Jean, 61, of Tucson died December 22, 1995. She is survived by her children, Susan (Steve) King and Steven Taylor; mother, Ruth Johnson; and brother, Al (Sally) Johnson; and niece, Kim Johnson as well as many loving friends. She was preceded in death by her father, George Johnson. Mrs. Taylor was an accomplished artist and calligrapher and founding member of the Donkey and Mule Society. UBBINGA, Anna, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Friend was promoted to Glory with the Lord on Saturday, December 23rd. Anna A. Petersen was born July 22, 1899 in Emden, Germany. She came to the United States at the age of 10 with her 12 year old brother, Jake, and younger sister, Pape, none of whom spoke English. She married John Janssen, who preceded her in death. Of this union, there were three children; Daughters, Betty Longest of Ft. Wayne, IN, Frances Janssen of South Bend, IN and son, Paul Janssen of Crawfordsville, IN. She later married Diedrich Ubbinga and they were blessed with three daughters, Tinie Dunbar of Brookston, IN, Wilma Lewellyn of New Richmond and Anna Wilson of Tucson. Upon their retirement as Indiana farmers in 1965, they moved to Corona De Tucson in 1966. Together they enjoyed golf, crafts and cultivating desert plants. After the death of Diedrich, she continued all her activities into her nineties. She will be missed and remembered by her family and friends by the beautiful crocheting and crewel pictures given them. She is survived by 14 grandchildren; seven grandsons, Roger Longest, Delmar Longest, David Janssen, Bryan Dunbar, Marvin Dunbar and Chris Lewellyn; seven granddaughters, Karen Zimmerman, Diane Kehoe, Debbie Zurawski, Donna Peyton, Evelyn Kurtz, Pamela Crowell, Denise Dunbar and Libby Lewellyn plus 27 great-grandchildren. Services pending in Indiana. A Tucson memorial service will be held in January. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or Carondelet Hospice. WASHBURN, Ann Elizabeth, 90, resident of Tucson since 1941, passed away peacefully at home December 24, 1995. She was born July 7, 1905 in Lakeport, MI. She retired from El Paso Natural Gas in 1970 after 27 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Charlie R. Washburn. She is survived by son, Charles (Alice); grandsons, Steve (Iris), Scott (Melinda), Stuart (Christine); and great-grandchildren, Christopher, Andrew, Craig, Matthew, Kalyn, Daniel, Alexander, Victoria, and Quinn (all of Tucson). WILSON, Marcellus R. Wilson (Curly), 79, of Tucson, died December 22, 1995. Survivors include his wife, Darlene; children, Michael, Chris, Andrew, John and Trudie; 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive as well as a brother, Lawrence. Mr. Wilson was a CBI World War II Veteran with the Army/Air Force. He was born in Woodstock, IL and resided in Elgin for many years before moving to Tucson in 1972. Memorial services will be held at HEATHER MORTUARY, 1040 N. Columbus Blvd., on Thursday, December 28, 1995 at 7:00 p.m. with Father O’Dell officiating. YOCKEY, John “Jack’, was called home by God on December 25, 1995, after a long illness of pulmonary fibrosis and heart disease. Jack is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Deloris. They would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on January 28, 1996. He is survived by his loving daughter, Jacalyn Lynch and beloved grandchildren, Jennifer and John David. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anne and Harwood Yockey. Jack was Plant Manager of American Pharmaseal in Massillon, OH and Tucson for a total of 27 years, retiring in 1986. He was a World War II veteran, who proudly served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Christ Church United Methodist. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who never stopped trying to overcome his severe illnesses. He was a special man and will be deeply missed. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 29, 1995 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd., with Pastor Tom Kiracofe of Christ Church United Methodist officiating. COMITZ, Edward V., age 70, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on Christmas morning knowing the love of his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Pauline; daughters, Margie Comitz Johnson (Tom) and Thea Comitz Meyer (Scott); son, Edward Comitz; granddaughter, Jennifer Johnson; and grandsons, Timmy Johnson, Geno Meyer and Bryan Meyer. In 1953, Ed moved with his family to Tucson, where he opened the Studebaker/Mercedes Benz dealership. He made numerous close friends and was incredibly dedicated to his family. In particular, Ed was known for his generosity and selfless spirit. Services to be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 5150 N. GOLDMAN, Elliot Sheldon, 51, a 33 year resident of Tucson, died December 26, 1995. Survived by wife, Elaine of Tucson; twin children: son, Richard N. Goldman of Claremont, CA; and daughter, Alissa E. Goldman of Irvine, CA; brother, Jay Goldman; parents, Luella and Joseph Goldman, all of Phoenix. Mr. Goldman was born in Fort Wayne, IN. Former owner of Allstate Transportation Services; thereafter, founded and was President of the Allstate Coin Company for the past 15 years in Tucson. He was a member of Congregation Chofetz Chayim; President of Tucson Business Information Club in 1987; voted Young Man of the Year in 1980 by the Jewish Community; member of the Tucson Desert Caucus; President of SKAL in 1980. He was honored by the Air Force Thunderbirds for his contribution to society thru his civic work in the 1980's. Was on the Board of Jewish Family Service in 1980; member of the Young Leadership Committee in 1979; and honored with the Community Service Award by the Tucson Jewish Community Council in 1979. He was an active supporter of the Democratic Party, receiving letters of appreciation from President Bill Clinton, MO Udall, Dennis DeConcini and Jack Kemp. He was a lifetime member of the American Numismatic Association, receiving its coveted Presidential Award in 1995; a student of Blues music, he was a member of the Tucson Blues Society. HEINEMEYER, Donald L., 87 of Tucson, formerly of Oxford, OH, died December 26, 1995. He is survived by loving wife of 58 years, Beth; son, Gary (Linda); and grandson, Ben. He taught grade school through college levels from 1925 until 1943 in Nebraska and Colorado, he and his wife then moved to Oxford, OH where he was a Professor of Accountancy at Miami University until his retirement in 1974 and then moved to Tucson in 1978. Summers each year were spent in Colorado Springs. Services Saturday, 10:00 a.m. at Allnut Funeral Chapel in Greeley, CO with interment at Sunset Gardens.
