Andrew V. Diss 75, passed away December 19, 1995 in Tucson. Born July 23, 1920 in Wheeling, WV. Retired from Wheeling Post Office in 1976. Served as a tailgunner on B-24 in WWII. Belonged to Columbia Council K of C #2593. Was Grand Knight for two terms. Active in little league, bowling, softball, and umpiring. An active member of T.O.T.S. baseball team in Tucson. He played in World Series softball games in Palm Spring, FL at the age of 71. He belonged to Our Lady Queen of All Saints Parish. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and two sisters. Survived by his wife of 50 years, Michalene; son, Dan of CA; daughters, Paula Diss Jonas of WV and Diane Diss Sligar of Tucson; sister, Mary Theresa “Boots’ Campbell of WV; three grandchildren, Joy, Jacob and Brianna; many nieces and nephews also survive. DURAN, Mary “Molly’, died Wednesday, December 20, 1995. Among her survivors are her parents, Henry and Irene Thompson; brothers, Paul, John and Robert Thompson; sister, Dorothy Griffin. FUHRMANN, Barbara E., 90, was called home by God in a peaceful sleep December 18, 1995. A graduate of nursing, Borgess Hospital, Kalamazoo, MI and the University of Dayton, OH, she spent many devoted years in the nursing profession. She served as a Captain in the Army Nurse Corps., with service in Korea, Japan and Hawaii. Her cheerful smile and attitude touched many lives and she will be greatly missed. Survivors include son, Edward (Judy) Fuhrmann of Cincinnati, OH; and daughter, Mercedes Coss, Van Nuys, CA; brother, John (Lucy) McIntee, Tucson, AZ; and sisters, Sr. Joan Therese McIntee, Nazareth, MI and Lucille McIntee, Southfield, MI; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sons, Carl and Glenn. Funeral Services and burial will be held at Sts. Cornelius and Cyprian Catholic Church, Bunker Hill, MI on December 23, 1995. HANNA, DeWayne M., 66. Passed on December 20, 1995. DeWayne recently celebrated his 44th wedding anniversary with wife and lifelong companion Novella. Sons, Greg (wife Alice), Mark (wife Erin) and Cliff were close by during his last year with us. “Papa’ was extremely close to and beloved by his grandchildren Erin, Ryan and Lillian. Brothers, Bob, Cotton and sister Wynona visited recently. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Piercy of California also made frequent visits and shared good times. There will be a memorial service for DeWayne’s many supportive and tremendous friends at Palo Verde Church of Christ, 651 S. Kolb Road Saturday December 23 at 12 Noon.

JEAN, Melvin W., 92, died December 18, 1995. Mr. Jean came to Tucson in 1963 from Sherrard, IL. Survived by children, Guy B. Jean of Tucson, Darlene (Deane) Fisher of Tucson, Melba Frew of IL and Roland (Cynthia) Jean of IL; 11 grandchildren; 24 great- grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Jean was preceded in death by his wife, Ada Marie Wheaton; three brothers, two sisters, one grandchild and one great-grandchild. KOCHENDORFER, Karl Kurt, 77, died December 20, 1995. He and his beloved wife, Winifred were 50 year residents of Tucson, raising three children, Joanne, Edgar and Kathleen. He worked as a construction supervisor building many custom homes in and around Tucson, and as a building inspector for the city of Tucson from 1975 until his retirement in 1980. Retirement was a wonderful time of travel with family and friends and busy days at home golfing, mallwalking, and working with the City of Tucson Retirees Association. He and his family have been long-time members of Grace Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, Winifred; children, Joanne Steele, Edgar Kochendorfer, Kathleen Adams; and grandchildren, Melanie Lopez, Nathan Steele, Rachel Steele, Felice Steele, and Vanessa Adams; and great grandchildren, Dustin and Amber Lopez. His surviving brothers and sisters are John Kochendorfer of Prescott, AZ, Bob Kochendorfer of AR, Barbara Gerstkemper of CA, Phyllis Blume of NV and Walker Kochendorfer of TX. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 23rd at Grace Church, 830 N. 1st Ave in Tucson with visitation at the church one hour before. Interment will be at South Lawn Cemetery. LEE, Percy E., 76, died Tuesday, December 19, 1995. McGLOTHLIN, James A., 69, a resident of Tucson since 1969 died Thursday, December 21, 1995. Born September 2, 1926, he is the loving husband of Evelyn; loving father of Daniel J. (Linda) of Ft. Collins, CO, Douglas (Jannine) and Denise (Andy) Edmonds of Tucson. Also survived by six grandchildren and brothers, Dennis of Eureka, NV, Chuck of Park City, MT, Dick of Provo, UT and Everett of Coronado, CA; sisters, Barbara Sare of Sheridan, WY and Joan Kay Christman of Belfry, MT. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Robert. Mr. McGlothlin was associated with the heavy equipment industry for 45 years; and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp, Pacific Theatre WWII and the Korean Conflict. Peter Austin McWhorter born in Tucson, August 13, 1956, to Robert L. and Mary Johnson McWhorter, died December 11, 1995. His early years were spent in Tucson, followed by two years in Ann Arbor, MI, and Tokyo, Japan, with his mother and siblings. Peter returned to Arizona to attend Tucson schools, Pima College, and the University of Arizona. Between high school and college, pursuing the life of a musician, he played in jazz groups with various musical figures in Tucson including Cass Preston and Bobby Elias, also traveling as pianist for High Rise, and eclectic performing group that toured the West. In 1987, he went to Galveston, TX, where he was pianist on the cruise ship, “The Colonel, ’ and also was in charge of music at a well-known French restaurant. Returning to Arizona in 1987, he was featured pianist at Old Tucson’s Western Revue in the Red Dog Saloon, appearing daily with Georgia Goodman, Debbie Rice, and Margy Wilson. For eight years, and until his final illness resulted in hospitalization last month, he performed at Westin La Paloma as soloist or with his trio, including Peter Swan and Geoff Hamilton. During 1994-95, he was also a salesman in the piano department at Muller Piano and Organ Co. In the early 1990s, he founded Absolute Entertainment, a booking agency for Tucson performers. Preceded in death by his father, Peter is survived by his mother, Mary Johnson McWhorter; his brothers, Duncan B. McWhorter, Brian D. McWhorter, and James R. McWhorter; and sisters, Caroline M. Mahar and Rachael M. Tocco, as well as aunts and uncles; 18 cousins; 15 nieces and nephews, and his longtime companion, Keith Nelson. NEELY, George Clover, 87, of Tucson, died Monday, December 18, 1995. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothea in 1992. Loving father of Rose (Leon) Augst and Clarence Neely; beloved grandfather of Tary Lee (Delmer) Geesey, Michael Neely, Nancy (Chet) Zema, Lt. Col. Greg (Robbin) Augst, Kelly Augst and Norman Neely; six great grandchildren; a brother, Clifford; and a sister, Mary Ellen, also survive. Mr. Neely was a Well Driller by profession and drilled oil and water wells in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Kentucky, and Illinois. He was a member of I.O.O.F. in Mt. Pleasant, MI. SLONEKER, Wendell Wayne, 80, resident of Tucson for 59 years, died Wednesday, December 20, 1995. Survived by wife, Edythe; one daughter, Ann Lorene Shortino; three grandchildren; and one great grandchild. He worked for 30 years as a Postal Mail Carrier in Tucson. He belonged to the Masons, American Legion, National Association of Letter Carriers and Retired Federal Employees Association. He was a long time member of Catalina Methodist Church. BLAIR, Elizabeth Ruth, having a sure a knowledge of who she was, died of ovarian cancer with wisdom and courage on December 18, 1995 a week after the 70th anniversary of her birth.
