(Arthur) Romero, Tucson; father, Rafael Valencia of CA; sons, Martin Jr., Pablo, and Joshue Mares; daughter, Maria Mares; brothers, Philip, Gregory, Ronald Valencia, Arthur Romero Jr.; sisters, Anamarie Valencia; Rosalie, Shirley, Susan Romero; grandmother, Carmen Oceguera, all of Tucson. Visitation on Monday, October 30, 1995, 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5401 S. Park Ave., with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral on Tuesday, October 31, 1995 at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel.

DEWART, Lillian Wadsworth, 75, died October 28, 1995, after a long illness. Survivors include husband, Robert, of Tucson; daughters Daphne Dewart Causey and husband Will of Long Island, New York, and Constance Dewart Lyford and husband Bill of Colorado; brothers Richard and John Wadsworth of Minerva, Ohio, sisters Esther Pocobello of Madison, Indiana, and Betty Casavant of Lake Wills, FL; four grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, and close family and friends, Andrew and Peggy Kovacs and family of Tucson. Lillian worked many years as high school secretary and as church secretary at First Presbyterian Church in Glens Falls, New York, and a Christ Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held at Christ Presbyterian Church, 6565 E. Broadway on Wednesday, November 1, 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of the church or to the Tucson Botanical Gardens.

FORD, Margaret “Peggy’, beloved wife of Bill for 44 years, passed away Saturday, October 28, 1995 in Tucson. Devoted mother of Tim Ford, Cindy (Nick) Genematas, Vicki (William) Blaser and Julie (Gary) Oglebay. Also grandchildren, Melissa Genematas, Elizabeth Genematas, Nicole Blaser, Karly Blaser, Perry Blaser, Brian Blaser, and Chelsea Oglebay. Born in Rockford, IL. on September 18, 1929, she came to Tucson in 1948. Visitation will be held at 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., rosary at 7:30 p.m. at the ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave.at Magee. Mass will be offered on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 5150 N. Valley View Road with internment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to St. Joseph’s Carondelet Hospice Foundation, 350 N. Wilmot Rd., Tucson, 85711.

HANNAN, John Anthony, born 10/10/25, passed on 10/29/95. Resident of Tucson since 1958. Biology, chemistry teacher at Pueblo High School for 25 years. He had a strong appreciation for the beauty of the desert and its surrounding mountains. His strong faith and love was a great inspiration to his family. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nancy; children, Jaime King (Roger), Paul Hannan (Janey), Julie Emmett, Todd Hannan (Leigh-Ann), Sara Leipart (George), John Hannan (Janiece); 12 grandchildren; one great grandson; and a host of close friends. A Memorial Mass will be said at Sacred Heart Church, 601 E. Ft. Lowell Rd. Thursday, November 2 at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to St. Mary’s Hospice, 1802 W. St. Marys Rd, Tucson, 85745-2690.

MADER, Cecil, passed away October 22, 1995. The family of Cecil Mader wishes to thank all who offered their support and condolences during the loss of our husband, father and friends.

OVERDORFF, James V., 66, died October 28, 1995. Survived by Maria, his wife of 19 years; daughters, Anna, Adrianna and Gabriela; also daughter, Valerie; and son, Duncan from a previous marriage; and three grandchildren. Jim was born April 30, 1929, in Johnstown, PA. He graduated from Duke University and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, was ordained a Presbyterian minister and was a civil rights organizer in Appalachia for many years. He worked for the City of Tucson for over 20 years; his last position there was with the Probation Department of the City Courts. Visitation at Southside Presbyterian Church, 317 W. 23 St. on Wednesday, November 1, beginning at 4:00 p.m., with funeral service at 7:00 p.m. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.

PERCY, Maria Luisa, 85 years old, died October 26, 1995 in New Hampshire. She was a resident of Tucson graduating from the University of Arizona in 1931. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 6, 1995 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Arrangements by SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave.

POWELL, John Leslie, 61, of Tucson, born in Great Falls, MT, March 5, 1934. He died at home with his family present on Saturday, October 28, 1995 (after the Breeder’s Cup). John started his telephone career at the age of 17 in El Paso, TX with Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co. His job classifications included frameman, lineman, cable splicer, installation repairman and PBX installer. In 1968 he transferred to Tucson as a PBX installer repairman where he worked until he retired in 1986. John and Barbara enjoyed traveling until he was recruited by Able Cable, Inc. in 1987 to manage its operations at Hughes Aircraft Co. in Tucson. Survivors include John’s longtime companion, Barbara Meredith; children, Deborah (Shirrell) Bond, John (Carolyn) Powell Jr., Julie (Brian) Austin; step-children, Marjan (Brian) MacPhee, Jamie Lee (Bill) Bond, Jeanarie Lujan, James Meredith; grandchildren, Stefni, Aaron, Michael, J.J., Danell, Elizabeth, Bart, Jason, Cody, and Eric. Memorial Service will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 1 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Remembrances may be made to the Community Hospice, 4330 N. Campbell Ave, 85718 or The Cancer Center of Southern Arizona, 2625 N. Craycroft.

SANCHEZ, Joseph Daniel, September 27, 1958 – October 26, 1995. “We have stared at the night sky in wonder to often to fear the darkness.’ Joe is predeceased by his father, Joseph and survived by his mother Virginia; his sisters, Margaret and Susan; and his brother, Rick; with-in-laws, nieces and nephews and myself, John Haase and my family. We all adored him and will deeply miss him forever. I know that he touched so many lives in so many wonderful ways that he will continue to live on in all our memories.

SCHRUBBE, Herman, 66 years old, died Sunday, October 29, 1995 in Tucson. Survived by his wife, Christa Schrubbe of Tucson; three daughters, Paula Ginn of AR, Ann Pistillo and Marla Gerome, both of Gilbert, AZ; three step-sons, Thomas Dorsey of Phoenix, Daniel Dorsey and Ronald Dorsey, both of Tucson; three brothers, Carl Schrubbe and Earl Schrubbe, both of Milwaukee, WI, Harold Schrubbe of Long Beach, CA; five grandchildren. Full Military Services for Mr. Schrubbe will be held at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, November 2, 1995 at WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5225 E. Speedway, where friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 1995. Burial will be in Ft. Huachuca Cemetery, Sierra Vista at 1:00 p.m. Thursday.

TOY, Gertrude B., 80 years old, died Monday, October 30, 1995. She was a 24 year resident of Tucson. Survivors include husband, Raymond, sons, Edwin W. (Bonnie) Jr. of PA, Stephen (Dorothy) of IL; Dick (Georgia) of TX, Roger (Barbara) Loy of Tucson; sisters, Ella, Ethel, Christina; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren. Funeral Service held on Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. November 1, 1995 at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5401 S. Park Ave. with Pastor C.H. Payne of Harvest Worship Center and Pastor Larry Rice of Praise Chapel officiating. Family suggest donations to Harvest Worship Center Building Fund, 5665 E. 29th, Tucson, AZ. WILKERSON, Hazel Blanche, 89, of Huntsville, Alabama and Tucson, died October 27, 1995. Mother of Gary W. Wilkerson of Tucson, LaVern M. Arnett of Fountain Valley, CA, Dewey A. Wilkerson of Santa Barbara, CA. Preceded in death by husband, Dewey Wilkerson; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Long time member of New Testament Baptist Church in Tucson. Funeral Services will be held at ABBEY FUNERAL CHAPEL, Wednesday, November 1 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. J. C. Joiner officiating. Interment East Lawn Cemetery. BLOOM, Leona G., died October 30, 1995, at the age of 82. She moved to Tucson in 1941. Over the years she was active with Temple Emanu-El, Women’s American ORT, The Tucson Literary Project, Reed Park Zoo and the Tucson Jewish Historical Society. Mrs. Bloom is survived by her husband, David A. Bloom; her two sons, Alan and Richard; three grandchildren, Zachary, Nikki and Ariana; and sister, Retta Schill. Services Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. EVERGREEN MORTUARY and CEMETERY, N. Oracle and W. Miracle Mile.

DUARTE, John, WWII Vet., 80, died October 30, 1995. Survived by loving wife of 60 years, Consuelo; daughter, Cecilia of Phoenix; brother, Isidro C. Duarte; sisters, Frances Germonia, Lillie Duarte and Mary Louisa Zazueta, all of Tucson; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Duarte retired from Pacific Fruit Express. His family wishes to extend special thanks to his Doctor and staff at VA N.H.C.U. west wing for their support and care. GARCIA, David M., 75, of Tucson, passed away October 28, 1995. Survived by wife, Concepcion Garcia; daughters, Elizabeth (Kenneth) Woods, Elinor (Peter) Ahumada, Myra (Bob) Irwin, Naomi (Jim) Laughlin and Lydia Collins and loving friend, (Tim Penwell); son, David (Irene) Garcia; also survived by eight grandchildren, Brian Paul and Elliot Scott Woods, David Anthony Ahumada, Kyle Robert Irwin, Amanda Diane Laughlin, Justin David Garcia, Deidre Elizabeth and Desiree Megan Collins; one great-grandchild, David Dwight Ahumada. Mr. Garcia was retired from the Arizona Highway Dept. His life touched many other lives. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 2, 1995 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at TUCSON MORTUARY, South Chapel, 240 S. Stone Ave., with Vesper Service at 7:00 p.m. Final Services will be held on Friday 10:00 a.m. in the South Chapel. Interment will follow at South Lawn Cemetery. HALL, Walter E., 86, died October 28, 1995. Stepfather of Patricia Rountree and Barbara Pickett, both of OR; brother of Chester D. Hall and Ethel Corry, both of NY. Mr. Hall was a retired accountant and a Boy Scout Leader for over 45 years including a Scout Master and District Commissioner receiving the Silver Beaver Award in 1977. HAMMER, Adele J., 61, of Oracle, AZ, died October 30, 1995. Wife of Donald F. of Oracle; mother of Demarise M. Doody and Donald J. Hammer, both of Phoenix; sister of Dr. Nick J. Mansour of Tucson. Mrs. Hammer was a school teacher at Salpointe Catholic High School.
