JACKSON, Ronald Edward, 48, of Tucson, died October 22, 1995. He was born on December 31, 1946. Beloved husband of Linda nee Szerszen; fond father of Christopher; and the late Theresea; beloved son of Alvin and Rita, nee Brown of Lincoln, IL formerly of Chicago; fond brother of Lucille Sparks, of Penfield, IL, Mary Sutton of Tucson and Christine Sandoval of Tucson. Don of River Grove, IL, John and Tim of Lincoln, IL and the late Norman of Chicago, IL. Mr. Jackson was in the army for 11 years and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (3rd award), Vietnam Service Medal with The Bronze Service Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Army Commendation Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. NOWKA, Irene R. Bliss, born October 23, 1903 in Litchfield, OH and was a resident of Tucson between 1944 and 1972. She passed away on October 17, 1995. Irene was preceded in death by her husband Lamont O. Bliss and survived by her second husband E.R. Nowka of Albuquerque, NM; her son, Charles Bliss and wife June of Farmington, NM; two sisters, Gladys Zacharias of Jackson, CA, and Helen Brown of Ojai, CA; five grandchildren, C. Bradford Bliss and Kathleen Triplett and three by marriage; and eight grandchildren. Irene was a member of the First Congregational Church of Tucson and she and her previous husband Monte, founded and operated Frontier Village Drug until 1968. She then moved to Albuquerque, NM. Graveside Services were held October 23, 1995 in Albuquerque. Irene will be missed by her family and friends.
OCHOA, Nicolas (Nick) P., 16, of Tucson, died October 21, 1995. Student at Flowing Wells High School and soccer enthusiast. Son of Michael P. and Ana M. Ochoa; brother of Sean J., Michael C., David A., Adriana M., and Michelle A. Ochoa, all of Tucson; grandson of Michael and Patricia Ochoa and Rudy and Ann Grijalva, all of Tucson; great grandson of Ann Paredez of San Diego, CA; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. SCHIPULL, Walter L., was born June 7, 1903 on a farm in Wright County, IA to Charles and Sadie Schipull. There he grew up with four brothers and three sisters, graduating from Renwick High School in 1920. Walter attended Iowa State University where he received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Forestry in 1927. Upon graduating Walter was employed by the U.S. Forest Service as a Forest Ranger, and the supervisor and Regional Inspector. His work took him to National Forests throughout the United States. Walter interrupted his career in 1942 to join the armed services during World War II. That same year he married Mary Elizabeth Gearhart of Hopkinton, IA. He served four years as a major, in the Air Corps in Douglas, AZ, and in the Corps of Engineers with tours of duty to the Philippines and the Southwest Pacific. After the war Walter returned to the Forest Service and was transferred to the Washington, D.C. office as Assistant director of Watershed Management. From this base his field work covered erosion control, land rehabilitation and national resource management on national forests and grass lands under jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Walter retired in 1965 after 34 years of service. In 1971 he and his wife left the Washington area and moved to Tucson, AZ. He was an active member of Catalina United Methodist Church and remained involved in service and outreach for the church and the greater Tucson community. He died Sunday, October 22, 1995 at his home in Tucson. Walter is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth; daughter Susan Calhoun and grandson Bert Calhoun; nieces and nephews; and a host of loving friends. Memorial services will be conducted Friday, October 27, 1995 at 1:30 p.m. Catalina United Methodist Church with Reverend Ravin Gaston officiating. GREENBLAT, Bette Ruth, 65, passed unto the Lord while sleeping at home in San Diego, CA on October 8, 1995. Formerly Bette Ruth Gray of Tucson, this kind and lively spirit is survived in San Diego by Dan and Patti Greenblat (son and daughter-in-law); granddaughter, Stacy; grandson, Steven; Bette’s sister, Margie Strong; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebratory wake at her home took place October 14th. Her husband, Manuel Greenblat, also of Tucson, pre-deceased her on November 26, 1985. Both grew up in Tucson and were graduates of Tucson High School, Class of 1948. She is survived by her sister, Mary Neilson (Cornville, AZ) and many loving members of the Munguia family. KILLAM, Richard Lee, 43, of Sahuarita, AZ born February 14, 1952, went to be with Spirit October 24, 1995. He is survived by his wife, Judy; his daughter, Jennie Trostle; son-in-law, Harry Trostle; son, John Killam. He is also survived by his father, Myron Killam; mother, Carol Killam; sister, Deborah; brothers, David and William Killam; seven grandchildren; many relatives and friends. LAUVER, H. Jackson “Jack’, died October 24, 1995, born, May 23, 1925 in Birmingham, MI. Husband of Nancy Dennes Lauver; father of Lynn (Richard) Baumeister, Lorraine Graham, Nancy (Burt) Mathers; brother, Robert (Edith) Lauver and six grandchildren. Preceded in death by brother, Andrew Lauver. Jack was an avid jazz enthusiast and devoted fan of U of A Wildcat sports of any kind. During the 60's he was a partner in Kalt and Lauver Advertising and a member of the U of A Alumni Assoc., Ad Club, Rotary Press Club and member of the Tucson Rodeo Committee. He was later employed by the University of AZ in Scholarships and Financial Aid Dept. He remained an active member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and served as Treasure for many years. MADRIL, Eduardo F. Sr. (Chito), age 37, continued on his journey onto the Great Sacred Circle of Life, October 21, 1995. O’CONNELL, Daniel Myles, of Tucson at age 63 on October 19, 1995, died suddenly of heart failure. The former producer of CBS’s “AT RANDOM’, Dan also worked for CARE in India and Egypt. A graduate of the University of Illinois with a Master’s degree from the University of Chicago, he also studied at Thunderbird College (American Institute for Foreign Trade) in Phoenix. Loving brother of Virginia (Tom), Edward (Rita), James (Joan), George (Mary Clare) and the late Dr. John (Mary Ann), Maurita Barnas and Phillip (Elizabeth Ann).
