NELSON, Patricia M. A kind, loving and gentle person, died peacefully and with dignity on October 9, 1995, at age 68. Survived by loving husband, Leonard; and children, Jonathan of Sebastopol, CA, Heather Nelson-Boyd (Frank) of Berkeley, CA; and sister, Sally Vance (James) of Spencer, IN. Patricia was a long-time Ridgewood, NJ, resident and a Tucson-area resident since 1988. She was active in numerous clubs and organizations in Sun City, Tucson since 1990. Memorial Services will be held at St. Philips in the Hills Episcopal Church on October 19, 1995 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Gail Freeman officiating. SMITH, Esther Davis, widow of Andrew R. Smith, died at Tucson, Arizona on October 7, 1995. Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on June 18, 1897, she is survived by her sons, David of Fairfield, Connecticut, and Philip of Tucson. Her daughter, Esther Mulford and her son Andrew predeceased her. She leaves 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Smith was the daughter of Charles E. Davis, a founder of the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce, and of Susan Hawley Davis, a well known concert soloist and teacher. She was a charter member of the Junior League of Bridgeport and active in local charities in the Connecticut communities of Bridgeport and Fairfield. She had been an active member of the Oxford Group, Moral Rearmament and 'Up with People' since the early 1930's. In the late thirties, she became business manager for Irene Comer's dancing classes throughout Fairfield County. Mrs. Smith and her husband moved from Connecticut to Tucson in 1966 and became members of St. Philips in the Hills Episcopal Church where she was active as a member of the vestry and otherwise. She was a member of The Tucson Country Club and the Colonial Dames of America. Services will be held at St. Philips at 3 o'clock p.m. on Friday, October 20.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests remembrances to the Tucson Hospice or St. Philips in the Hills.
SPARE, Dale E., 51, a resident of Tucson for the past 45 years. Went to be with Our Lord Jesus on October 11, 1995. Born August 25, 1944 in Howell, MI. BLACK, Robert Ross, 77, died at home October 8, 1995 after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, Dorothea Raoul Black; and children, Marion Black of Tucson, Dorothea Black (Logowitz) of Boston and Robert Black of Akron, OH. Born in Chicago, he earned a BA from Carleton College, an MBA from the University of Chicago, and a PhD from the University of California at Berkeley. He was a professor of economics at the University of Akron for 25 years. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps in China as a meteorologist, forecasting weather for Allied flights over the Himalayas. An avid and experienced sailor, he spent summers on the coast of Maine since 1955. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 21 1:00 p.m. at the auditorium of Rincon Country West, 4555 S. CHESEBRO, Mereland J., 74, of Tucson, passed away October 10, 1995. Survived by wife, Zona; son, Larry Chesebro of Tacoma, WA; daughter, Sandra Kubly of Eagle, WI; brother, Montgomery Chesebro of Monticello, WI; sister-in-law, Helen Baggett; brothers-in-law, Don (Sara) Carpenter and Bill (Stacy) Carpenter, all of Marana; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. CAID, Arthur 'Butch', passed away Sunday, October 8, 1995. A member of an Arizona Pioneer family who grew up in Bisbee and moved to Tucson in 1921. Retired from family business, T. A. Caid and Sons. Preceded in death by sons Joe, David and Pat. Survivors include wife of 64 years, Genie; sons, John of Pinetop, AZ and Les of Tucson; also survived by 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was married to Nancy Lawrence on July 16, 1938 in New York Mills, NY. He was employed by Brunner Mfg. Co., and later owned Hart's Hill Dairy. His survivors are his wife, Nancy; three sisters, Margaret Farrar, Emily Kirk and Ethel Grizzanto; daughter, Kathleen M. (Michael) McBride; four sons, Robert P. (Carol), Lawrence N. (Judy), David A. (Elizabeth), Russel T. (Mary); 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was a member of Elks Lodge, #385 and the Downtown Tucson Lions Club.
