VANZO, Louis P. 'Bud', 82, passed away June 30, 1995. Father of Martha Anne (Thomas) Cardullo of Tucson, Patrick (Gloria) Vanzo of Seattle, WA., Therese (Eric Hopkins) Vanzo of Fairmont, WV; grandfather of, Letecia and Talitha Vanzo, and step-grandson James Cardullo. Brother of Mildred Baird of IN., Violet Bast of Tucson and James Vanzo of IL. Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive. Mr. Vanzo had received his 50 year pin as a member of the Knights of Columbus. The family wishes to thank those who cared for 'Bud' at the Broadmoor House and also the staff at Tucson Medical Center Hospice. DUHAMEL, Arthur G., 84, of Tucson, passed away June 29, 1995. In 1959 Mr. Duhamel founded D. and H. Air Conditioning and Heating Co., Inc. Survived by daughter, Bonnie (James) Wright; grandchildren, Brett (Roxanne) Wright, Bradley Wright, Teryl (Barry) Johnston, Heather Wright; and four great grandchildren, all of Tucson; brother, Bill Duhamel of Old Orchard Beach, ME. SCHOTTLAND, Charles Irwin, 88, a Tucson resident since 1979, died June 27, 1995. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, July 2, 1995 at the ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. at Magee, at 4:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington D.C., Thursday, July 6 at 3:00 p.m., next to his beloved wife, Edna, and daughter, Mary Elizabeth. Born in Chicago, IL he is survived by son, Richard; and two grandsons, Mark and Greg; a sister, Isabel Hamerman of CA; and a brother, Robert Schottland of WA. Highlights of his long and distinguished career include: Lt. Col. on General Eisenhower's staff in charge of planning the care and repatriation of 5.5 million WWII refugees; Cabinet member and Commissioner of Social Security under President Eisenhower; a leading expert on social welfare and founder of the Heller Graduate School of Social Welfare at Brandeis University, later to become the third President of that institution. In AZ, Schottland was chairman of the Governor's Advisory Council on Aging, appointed by then-Governor Bruce Babbitt and reappointed to the Council by Governors Rose Mofford and Fife Symington. This past May, he was a delegate to the fourth White House Conference on Aging. Mentor and author, he lectured at more than 40 universities including the UA, was a faculty member at ASU and received many honorary degrees. Charles was a special person who touched many lives and will be remembered for his unwavering concern for humanity. TAREN, Elizabeth 'Bette', 73, of Tucson, passed away June 28, 1995. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Sidney. She is also survived by children, Robert Taren of Santa Cruz, CA, Julie Taren of Los Angeles, CA, Douglas (Monica) Taren of Tucson; grandchildren, Sanet and Crystal; sister, Helen (Joe) Stern of Omaha, NE; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Taren was a board member of the Tucson Symphony Women's Association and chaired its Mad Hatter Luncheons a number of times. She was a charter member of the Angels Charity for Children, and was a two term president of the Handmaker Women's Association. She was also a life member of the Brandeis University Women's Association. She and her husband Sidney have been long time members of Temple Emanu-El. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, July 2 at 10:00 a.m. at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 2545 N. Tucson Blvd., (one block North Grant.) with Rabbi Joseph Weizenbaum officiating. VOSS, Arthur Sr., 94, went to be with the Lord and his beloved wife, Thelma on June 28, 1995. Arthur was born in Oskalossa, IA on April 25, 1901, was a carpenter and automotive mechanic working his early years in Detroit, MI and relocating to Miami, FL in early 1940 where he was a self-employed carpenter. Arthur and Thelma were members of The Church by the Sea in Miami, where Arthur was Deacon Emeritus. Arthur came to Tucson, AZ from Miami, FL one year ago after the passing of his wife of 72 years. Arthur is survived by his son, Arthur II (Emma) of Tucson; daughter, Betty Vogel of Ellijay, GA; grandsons, Arthur Voss III of Tucson, Adam of Las Vegas; granddaughters, Elaine of MN, Linda and Karen of S. Florida, Sandy of VA; seven great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Arthur will be greatly missed by his family and friends and he will be remembered for his serene, friendly and cheerful nature. The Voss family wishes to thank all of the medical professionals in Tucson who provided father with loving medical care. She was a Powder Puff driver with TACRA from 1959 to 1975, President and active member of TACRA Women's Auxiliary, active in refunding, an avid bowler and bingo player.
