PORCELLI, Augustine Joseph ('A.J.'). Born January 24, 1961, died July 19, 1995, resident of Tucson since early childhood. Mr. Porcelli touched all who knew him with his irrepressible wit and charm. Quick to amuse even casual acquaintances with his easy, self-deprecating humor, he was nonetheless a source of quiet strength, compassion and support to his many loved ones. His passion, his loyalty, and his generosity of spirit made an indelible impression on all whom he touched.
Mr. Porcelli is survived by his mother Winifred Reilly Porcelli; his sister, Winnie R. Porcelli, both of Tucson, and his brother, Jonathan V. Porcelli of New York City. He was preceded in death by his brother, Louis-john Porcelli, and close friend, Gary Baker. He is also remembered and loved by a wide circle of family and friends, including lifelong confidante and soulmate, Renee Vogel, as well as the entire Vogel family; family friends Jean and Andrew Baker; his dear friend, Diane Hart; his brother-in-law, Jason John Hendrix; his aunt, Dorothy Reilly, and many cousins; and numerous close friends.
Mr. Porcelli was a 1979 graduate of Sabino High School, received his B.A. from the University of Arizona in 1984, and his J.D. from A.S.U. Law College in 1988. He was a coach for the Indian Ridge Swim Team 1984-1985, and interned in the office of Congressman Jim Kolbe in Washington, D.C. in 1987. Upon graduation from law school, he embarked on a career as an attorney and businessman, most recently with Globetech International. He was planning to attend the University of Arizona NAFTA Institute College of Law this fall.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 15, at Grace-St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2331 E. Adams. Donations can be made in his name to the Tucson AIDS Project, 151 South Tucson Boulevard, 85716, or to any alternate AIDS charity.
Mr. Porcelli's life enriched many others, and he will be sorely missed and loved always.
SANFORD, Richard William, Sr., 'Sandy', 78, of Tucson, died Wednesday, July 12, 1995. Survived by his children, Judy (Steve) Hoffmann, Richard (Carol) Sanford, Jr; grandchildren, Ryan Scott, Sean Sanford, Lindsay Sanford, all of Tucson; brother, John Sanford of FL; sisters, Betty (Earl) Black of New Castle, PA, Geraldine Valentine of FL. Mr. Sanford, a World War II veteran, was a retired federal employee with 33 years of service. His last position was Staff Transportation Officer for the Strategic Communications Command. CUSTER, Vera Rose, 75, of Tucson, AZ, formerly of Concord and Moraga, CA, died July 10, 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward. KREGER, Martin Alfred, 65, passed away July 10, 1995 in Colorado. Husband of Charlene Kreger of Tucson; father of Linda Alstott of MI, Sheree Kreger of TX, Cindy Brown of FL, Mike Kreger and Martin A. Kreger II, both of MI and April Kreger of IN; brother of Jean Crimmins and Arthur Kreger, both of MI; son of Gladys Kreger of MI; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive. Mr. Kreger was an army vet of the Korean War, owner operator of H.O. Machus Enterprises Restaurants for 34 years in MI. Also a professor at Pima Community College for the past three years teaching Hotel and Restaurant Management. He was a member of the Chaine De Rotisseurs Tucson and Detroit Chapters. HADLEY, Martha, 88, a native of Oklahoma, passed away July 7, 1995. A resident of Tucson since 1947 and the widow of the late Frank Hadley. Survived by sisters, R. Elizabeth Karstetter and Mae Boyer; brother, Loyd Morton and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hadley taught school in Continental school district for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. In later years she taught private music lessons and played for the Columbia Street Baptist Church. Her greatest joys were working with children. MARSHALL, Mary Jo, 79 years old, died Thursday, July 6, 1995. She was an area resident for 36 years. Survivors are daughter, Jeanne (John) Hardin of Tucson; sister, Floy Jean (Anthony, Navy Captain) Christopher of CA; brother, Otto (Willie Mae) Mangold of TX; granddaughters, Danielle Ahern, Mackenzie Martin, and Jacobie Hardin, all of Tucson. Mrs. Marshall was Past President of Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers Sorority; Past President of Eastern Star; Past President of Eloy Music Club; Alumni of University of Oklahoma; and taught school at Bonillas and Menlow Park Elementary. PAFFORD, Jessie Garrett, passed away on July 9, 1995. She was born in Knickerbocker, TX, on October 31, 1901. She moved with her family to Arizona in 1912. The Garrett family is prominent in the history of Tubac. Her father was a cattleman who built the first two-story house between Nogales and Tucson at Tubac, now standing in the center of Tubac. Jessie lived there until she married and moved to Tucson. She was preceded in death by her husband, L.L. (Jack) Pafford. She is survived by her daughters, Jeanne Glasgow (James B.) of Tucson and Jerry Goble (Merle) of Mesa; six grandchildren, James A. Glasgow (Alice) of McLean, VA., Sandra Fuqua (Ben) of Mesa, Dr. Gary Glasgow of Solana Beach, CA., Carolyn Buchanan (Charles) of Phoenix, Kendall Glasgow of Tucson, and Lynelle Quiroz (John) of Flower Mound, TX; five great grandchildren; brothers, James T.
